For the past couple of months I have been working at Fun House pizza in Lee's Summit, MO as a cook. My goal has been to save up around $4,000 and then sell my 2002 SS Monte Carlo so I can buy a new car. So the time comes to where I have enough money saved to sell the Monte Carlo. I come to the decision that I could get the most money if I post it on craigslist so I did and within an hour I got a cool from someone who wanted to buy the car so I sold the Monte Carlo later on that afternoon, but when I sold it I forgot to take my plates off the car which at that point in my life did not know mattered. Alright now I got all they money I had earned and I was looking for a new vehicle. I looked around a couple of days for a SUV and I found a 2004 sport ford explorer. …show more content…
He comes to pick me up and we head out to Compass Motors we arrived and I got to drive the SUV around and I thought it was good so I bought it. I soon found out that was a mistake when I later on arrived home and showed it to my father, grandfather, and my mother who all told me that I had made the wrong decision and needed to return the SUV and would be lucky to get my money back. That next morning me, my father, and grandfather all went back down to Compass Motor to talk to the man who sold me the car to go get my money back. Me and my father go into the store and talked to the man who sold me car and we got my money back, but I lost $200 for the title return paper work that was a lesson I learned to not buy a car without my father. I then told this story to my boss at Fun House pizza and he offered to sell me a 2009 Chevrolet HHR. This time me, my father, and grandfather all went to go look at the 2009 Chevrolet HHR my boss was offering to sell, and it turned out to be a really over all great deal so I purchased

The billboard that would normally promote, advertise or represent something is instead blank, emotionless. This could not be a more appropriate image to open this film with consideringNightcrawler is a film that is devoid of emotion, sentiment or integrity. This form of detachment from human emotion does not stem from the film’s content, but rather from Jake Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of the film’s main character, Lou Bloom. Even in the strictest of definitions, the character is a sociopath who feeds off the vulnerability of others. By proxy of Gyllenhaal’s performance, the film transforms itself into an unapologetic film that chronicles the plight of its lead character without ever throwing judgment or morality upon his actions. A sociopath, in many regards, is opportunists. They craft a narrative and use their persuasive social skills to create an entry into individual’s lives, companies or corporations. Typically such personalities are perceived to be harmless, such as being personable and generating attention towards them. Also, their inability to feel guilt often feeds into their confidence, which allows for them to present themselves as being more than they actually are. Gyllenhaal’s performance occupies many of these qualities, to which the viewer...

Mainstrem Film vs

...alternative filmsMainstream films can best be defined as commercial films that are made by major entertainment studios or companies that are owned by international media conglomerates. Because of better financing, these films can afford more expensive actors, wide releases, and are sold at popular retail stores. This has become known as the studio system. Films made by major studios or companies that are not owned by a media conglomerate but are distributed by a company owned by a media conglomerate (see Lucasfilm) are also considered to be mainstream and are often referred to as mainstream independent films. Companies that are completely independent, such as Lionsgate, also produce mainstream films, from a cultural standpoint, but independent of the studio system. The alternative to mainstream films are sub genre films that appeal to a certain audience, such as African American films. Low budget films, art films, and experimental films are often the starting point for entertainers who wish to enter into the mainstream circuit or a sub genre circuit. Mainstream films are targeted for all cultures and audiences, with the dominating culture and audience being the primary marketing focus, while sub genre films are marketed towards only one specific culture and audience. Mainstream films often recruit talent from all film genres and backgrounds. Alternative media are media (newspapers, radio, television, magazines, movies, Internet, etc.) which provide alternative information to the...

Rhetorical Analysis of the Onondaga Dragway

...Rhetorical Analysis of the Onondaga Dragway Chelsea Cox Baker College October 26, 2013 102 Composition Rhetorical Analysis of the Onondaga Dragway Is the Onondaga Dragway ruining its residents’ right to live peacefully? Many argue that the answer is “yes.” Onondaga is home to nearly 3,000 residents and is nestled between Lansing and Jackson County ("Onondaga Township, Ingham, 2013). The Onondaga Dragway closed its doors in 1978, and sat abandoned for more than thirty five years due to a declining economy. In recent times, a local family and a handful of car enthusiasts have worked hard to revive the quarter-mile drag way track (Byrd, 2013). After the recent opening of the Onondaga Dragway, on September 17th, 2013, citizens of Onondaga have come together in hopes to shut the Dragway down and formed the CORE group. Newly, the CORE group wrote an argument in its semi-local newspaper, The Leslie Weekly Guardian. While the CORE group’s argument is emotionally appealing and passionately written, the failure to acknowledge opposing viewpoints may ruin the argument’s credibility to its audience. The recently founded CORE group, also known as “Neighbors for a Change in Onondaga Township”, is arguing that the Dragway thrill ignores the negative impact it has on Onondaga community. CORE opens up with a hopeless outlook for Onondaga residents. The Neighbors for a Change in Onondaga Township point-blank state that the Dragway has already dangerously proved that its existence is...

...MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS 10.2478/cris-2013-0005 MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS MARIIA MOISEIEVA The report is designed to examine, analyse, and evaluate where appropriately the current Mini Cooper’s marketing strategy, its digital marketing initiative, branding, and the importance of ethical values in Mini Cooper as well as other organisations. That is important for understanding of the practical applications of marketing is achieved by applying theory to them. It is determined that Mini’s marketing strategy has shifted in terms of targeting and brand positioning. As previously it was an affordable iconic British car, now it has become a cool luxury car dominantly for a young segment. Its international marketing strategy is differentiated in a way that a brand is built up on the historical iconic image of Mini for the UK and associated market, but it is not associated with any values in the past for the US customers. Overall, Mini’s marketing strategy is considered to be innovative, creative, and sometimes ‘silly’, which is of great value for its young energetic target audience. Digital marketing initiative also corresponds to the latest IT and social trends worldwide by ‘digitalising’ marketing initiatives and active social networking with the consumers. Brand is a core competence and ‘everything’ for Mini. Marketing is centered on its brand, not vice versa. An analysis of the Mini’s strategy...

The White Tiger

...The White Tiger Summary The entire novel is narrated through letters by Balram Halwai to the Premier of China, who will soon be visiting India. Balram is an Indian man from an impoverished background, born in the village of Laxmangarh. Early on, he describes his basic story: he transcended his humble beginnings to become a successful entrepreneur in Bangalore, largely through the murder Mr. Ashok, who had been his employer. Balram also makes clear that because of the murder, it is likely that his own family has been massacred in retribution. In Laxmangarh, Balram was raised in a large, poor family from the Halwai caste, a caste that indicates sweet-makers. The village is dominated and oppressed by the “Four Animals,” four landlords known as the Wild Boar, the Stork, the Buffalo, and the Raven. Balram's father is a struggling rickshaw driver, and his mother died when he is young. The alpha figure of his family was his pushy grandmother, Kusum. Balram was initially referred to simply as “Munna,” meaning “boy," since his family had not bothered to name him. He did not have another name until his schoolteacher dubbed him Balram. The boy proved himself intelligent and talented, and was praised one day as a rare “White Tiger” by a visiting school inspector. Unfortunately, Balram was removed from school after only a few years, to work in a tea shop with his brother, Kishan. There, he furthered his education by eavesdropping on the conversations of shop customers. Balram feels that...

Social Value of Brands

...I. Introduction Social Value of Brand is defined for users as the extent to which people share information about a brand as part of their everyday social lives according to Michael Bartl and for companies, it is the share of brand’s equity which result from social interaction among brand users. It occurs when there is interface between consumers and the brand. Nowadays, consumers are more interconnected with value of the brand they consumed and see different aspects with it. For example, when consumers think about Burger King, some of them will think of it as one of the delicious and comfort food for people, but on the other hand, other consumers may think of the brand as a crippling part of health and a cause of obesity. It is not true that brand social role is always positive in this society. There are seven factors that represents one of the most powerful at our disposal for positive social change which is called the Seven Social Wins. The Seven Social Wins include the ff: 1. Brands foster customer loyalty that leads more reliable company earnings and more sustainable levels of employment and wealth creation. 2. Brands are a spur to innovation. 3. Brands provide a reliable mechanism for consumer protection. 4. Brands create pressure for corporate social responsibility. 5. Brands provide a platform for corporate social leadership. 6. Brands play a progressive social role that create for the not-for-profit sector. 7. There is a sense in which brands...

Breaking Bad Media

...Breaking bad was written and produced by Vince Gilligan and broadcast from 2008 to 2013. Over these 5 seasons, many blog personal pose the question that Breaking Bad doesn’t examine the extent to which American institutions are failing and the drug problems. That it is deceptive by only exploring Walter White’s (actor) problems rather than the drug problem as a whole, specifically the urban poor. The middle class focus left questioning if it is the greatest series of all time, as popularly reported. The show squarely represents the target audience; forty-something, middle class, good living, conservative, suburban white America in the midst of an economic downturn, where the equilibrium (Todorov) of health and fortunes are pulled away from under them. Walter’s response conforms exactly to the American Dream; he personalises responsibility for other’s (bankers/corporations) actions, looks to himself to seek out opportunity, he becomes the entrepreneur, a manufacturer of a commodity much in demand. The middle class however can relate to the problems as it almost mirrors them. I got thinking and decided this argument really excites me and can write a lot about this argument prompted from breaking bad. The wider drug problem isn’t explored, but it is interesting as there is a lot to argue, in the fact it narrates the story from the middle class perspective. While similar shows, the wire, solely focuses on the underclass being exploited by higher authoritative people in society....

Consumer Representations and Collaborative Website Narratives

...The Journal of Applied Business Research – May/June 2015 Volume 31, Number 3 Collaborative Consumption And Sustainability: A Discursive Analysis Of Consumer Representations And Collaborative Website Narratives Anne-Sophie Binninger, NEOMA Business School, France Nacima Ourahmoune, NEOMA Business School, France Isabelle Robert, University Lille Nord de France-SKEMA Business School, France ABSTRACT In this article, the authors analyze the collaborative consumption model and its contribution to sustainable consumption. Indeed, collaborative consumption is considered as an alternative, ecological consumption mode (Bostman & Rogers, 2011), but previous research has no yet deeply explored to what extent it contributes the sustainable scheme and values. The study therefore investigates both the producer side (collaborative websites) and consumer side (blog participants) to decipher how sustainable ideals are shaped in this context and how consumers attend to them. Six segments of consumers have been identified which can help marketing and sustainable levers better frame their offer. Keywords: Collaborative Consumption; Sustainable Consumption; Access-Based Consumption; Sharing INTRODUCTION O ver the last decade, markets have changed significantly in terms of our relationship to goods, leading to other forms of acquisition and consumption than via possession (Rifkin, 2000, Lovelock and Gummeson 2004, Mont, 2002, Giesler 2006, Chen, 2009, Belk, 2010, Gansky 2010; Bostman & Rogers...
