LH’s work schedule screwing everything up is a running theme throughout our lives, so it was no surprise that we ended up not being able to make it to the park until the very last day of the event. ...Star Wars: The Force Awakens On Friday, June 24th I attended the first Summer Movie Night at the Xfinity East Plaza hosted by the American Airlines Arena to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Doors opened at 7:00 p.m. and the film started at 8:00 p.m. everything went on schedule. It was a free event however, guests had to pre-register for the event by downloading the Miami Heat app onto their cellular devices in order to enter the plaza. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove himself, or “hide” from the realities of his life, such as his mother’s illness and awkward pre-teenage years. The first few sentences of Lethem’s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he’s watched Star Wars twenty-one times in four months. He then uses the next three paragraphs to reflect on the circumstances surrounding his trips to the movie theater in the summer of 1977 and trying to understand what triggered him to go all twenty-one times. Design/methodology/approach – Marketing and consumer behaviour studies often apply narrative analysis to understand consumption. The consumer is a source of introspective narratives that are studied by scholars. However, consumption has a narrative nature in itself and consumers are also storytellers. YouTube is a new context in which subjects tell stories to an audience through self-made videos and re-edited TV programs. After defining the pros and cons of different approaches to the study of YouTube, narrative analysis is presented as a possible means of understanding YouTube. Findings – Some preliminary evidence is presented by discussing several YouTube videos. These indicate that YouTube content can be better understood as stories, rather than example of other approaches, such as visual analysis, media studies, videography, and others.
