As a Vietnam veteran, my father has struggled with the aftereffects of war as long as I can remember. From falling victim to contaminated water at a military base which resulted in throat cancer, or the dark cloud called PTSD, it has been a seemingly never-ending battle filled with both good days and bad days. There are no words to justify how hard it is seeing anyone, especially your father, fight the battle of failing health every day. Recently, my dad’s health has been declining faster than my family cares to admit. Now, he depends on an oxygen machine to breathe and simple illnesses result in emergency room visits. He was in and out of the hospital for much of last year and during that time, personally, I had no greater fear than living
