Mike got the ball and controlled it carefully in his feet. He made a move past the defender and raced toward the goal, with the ball at his feet. He struck the ball with force at the net just as the the whistle blew signalling the end of recess. It was a Tuesday afternoon in Decatur, IL, the sun was shining and the sky was a mix of blue and white. The sound of talking and screaming kids echoed around the playground, bouncing off the forest trees in the back of the recess baseball field. The Decatur Middle School had very nice athletic fields for organized sports, but the recess sporting grounds were beat up, and not nearly as nice, but Mike didn’t care. Ryan was at least a foot taller than Mike. He had brown curly hair that came over his ears and he had blue eyes. Mike on the other hand was small. He had a buzz cut and his eyes were deep brown. As Ryan got off the bus, he yelled “See you at practice tonight you bender,” and left. “Boy I hate that kids guts”, Mike Christamore thought to himself. He spent the rest of the bus ride staring out the window at the fall environment. At the last stop, he got off the bus and walked up to his modern white house. Mike’s house was a single family home that looked like it was built yesterday, because it was always very orderly. Mike lived in a neighborhood consisting of one street, Paxton Drive, and five houses with woods in the backyard. The trees had turned orange making the neighborhood very colorful. The neighborhood took a slight bend to the left until there was a cul de sac at the end of the road. The road was the length of three school buses, with Mike’s house the first house to the right. All the other houses were made largely of stone, because almost everybody in this neighborhood, was of great wealth, and Mike’s family was no different. After walking a short distance, he turned right into his driveway and walked toward the garage door. He punched in the code and went inside to the backdoor, opened it and walked in.
