Personal Narrative: The Great Gatsby's House

As I twisted the rusty knob of the house a spider crawled out of the key hole. I was already disgusted by the new house even though it was big and pretty, it was old and need a ton of work. It was a big white house with bright green ivy growing up the side of it and across the front. When I stepped in, there were marble walls with spiralling staircases leading to the second floor. Of course, my parents let me pick the room I wanted, I picked the second biggest room with my own bathroom. After I had made my room decision the movers moved all my stuff into my room and I went to go explore the rest of the house. I went into the back yard where there was a beautiful pergola set up leading down to the pond. As I was walking through, I could imagine …show more content…
I couldn’t even focus on the book I needed to read for school. As I tried to continue reading the book, I started to realize the house in the book started to sound more and more like the house I just moved into. Then I remembered in school, we were talking about how the Great Gatsby was based off Lake Forest and the guy who wrote the book lived in Lake Forest. I got really interested and then I decided to look it up on my computer, I looked up Great Gatsby house in Lake Forest and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The next morning I woke up early before I had to go to school. The wind was brisk and wet, it felt like ice was dusting my face as I took the long walk to the guest house. I stepped on the creaky, rotten wood porch, careful with each step because I was afraid I would fall right through. I tightly gripped the old fashioned door knob of the house and open it slowly, my heart pounding. When the door swung open a large gust of dust came rolling at me, I quickly covered my eyes. When I put my arm down I saw what looked like to be a long short hallway leading to a book room. I walked down the hall quickly and quietly, I reached the room I peered into the room to make sure no one was in it. When I walked in I saw a ton of dusty journals, a pair of broken glasses, a globe and the biggest book case I have ever seen. I was a little disappointed at first I thought I was going to find gold or something. I picked up one of the many journals, dusted it off and flipped through the yellow, wrinkled pages and sat down in the wooden chair at the desk to read it. ...The Narrative Art of The Great Gatsby Introduction The Great Gatsby was written in 1925. The author, Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) is one of the most outstanding writers in America. As a member of the “lost generation”, Fitzgerald made the short life of Gatsby epitome of the rise, boom and decline of the “American Dream” in “Jazz Age”. ...The Great Gatsby: Summary: Nick Carraway, a young man from Minnesota, moves to New York in the summer of 1922 to learn about the bond business. He rents a house in the West Egg, Long Island, a wealthy area populated by the new rich, people who made their fortunes due to the economic upswing of the Roaring Twenties. Nick’s next-door neighbor in West Egg is a mysterious man named Jay Gatsby, who lives in a huge mansion and throws extravagant parties on the weekends. Nick is unlike the other inhabitants of West Egg—he was educated at Yale and has social connections in East Egg, a fashionable area of Long Island and the home of the upper class. Nick drives out to East Egg one evening to have dinner with his cousin, Daisy Buchanan, and her husband, Tom, a former classmate of Nick during his time at Yale. Daisy and Tom introduce Nick to Jordan Baker, a beautiful, cynical young woman with whom Nick begins a romantic relationship.
