Personal Narrative: The Prep

Education and neighborhood, those two words are the starting point for many presumptions us humans make when we see a new person. When we hear someone speak, automatically it is known that they are a straight A student, or that they can barely get a C+, right? Wrong. This is wrong for many people, as you cannot know a person, inside and out, the instant you meet them or look at their social media profile. I have been a victim of this and I’m sure I have done it to my peers as well. As a student at The Prep, and the only one in my family at that, I get judged a lot. Whether it’s “You go to what school? Not Roman?”, or “Wow St. Joe’s Prep, what a dork.” Again, it’s being put into a box, because I go to The Prep, I must be a snotty rich kid who studies all day. Instances similar to these occur far too frequently, and expletives used as adjectives for the school were far too ubiquitous in conversations with my grade school classmates for anyone’s liking. Ironically my house is a mere 5-minute drive from Father Judge, so I hear a lot of “Why didn’t you just go to Judge?” Well, to be honest, I was going to follow that preconceived destiny, and go to either Roman Catholic or Father Judge. Granted these schools aren’t bad at all, but The Prep was definitely the right choice. How did I get here, at The Prep, out of my box? Well, if it wasn’t for my 8th-grade teacher, an alumni of St. Joe’s Prep, I wouldn’t be here. I would be conforming to the normal way of things and stayed in my box. I wouldn’t say I was deterred from The Prep by my father, but I had to make him come around to my side, and have unanimous support from my family. Although I know he does support me he often goes on a tangent and essentially is trying to say something along the lines of, “Don’t you wish you could somehow do Roman education and St. Joe’s Prep soccer?” No, I wouldn’t have it any other way, because easy doesn’t teach us

...Compare & Contrast Othello and “O” Despite working with low-budget and a small crew, Orson Welles makes his Othello interesting and memorable through several techniques. He generates a sense of suspense by placing the final scene in the beginning of the movie. When translating play into film, he creatively rearranges the scenes while keeping the text intact and shoots from odd angles to produce interesting lighting and shadows. Even though some of the characters in the film do not quite live up to the viewer's ideals of the characters, Welles's Othello still achieves remarkable success. In order to accompany the powerful words of Shakespeare, Welles chooses to shoot from either slightly above the usual camera angle or below it to create a dramatic effect. As the movie begins, the cameras angled from the ground up to show off dark, sparsely clouded skies, and soldiers in dark silhouettes marching to a funeral. When Welles shoots the first scene between Othello and Desdemona, he chooses Venice, a traditionally romanticized city, to emphasize the early attraction between them.
