Personal Narrative-The Story Behind His Bike

Submitted By

Behind the starting gate all the riders lined up hearts racing, sweat running down their faces, anxious hoping to take the whole shot. Engines rev up, and the riders dump the clutch flying out of the starting gate, racing to round the first corner before the others. The spectators might see the race as competition between a bunch of riders, but it's more so between the rider and his bike. My hobby started as a crazy dream to be like Travis Pastrana. I’m going to give you a lesson on how a dream turned to reality and my hobby. Starting is always the big kicker when wanting to succeed at anything. Then you have all the troubles in between that you have to push past. Last, but not least you have success, so hang on for the ride.
I started my …show more content…
The troubles of my hobby came to life. As I was growing up I learned that you can’t keep the same bike forever. After my first race I went through a growth spurt, I was then to big for my bike. I grew out of all my gear, and I had to start all over. Thank god for sponsors! My sponsors equipped me with everything I needed in a bigger size. My father equipped me with a new RM 65 Suzuki, two stroke dirtbike. New difficulties were at task, but the process to learning had to be fast pace. The troubles of learning a new bike and how to control it were not extreme, yet it was still a challenge. The new gear was bought to last me a few years, so it was big. I was growing fast, and I needed room to grow and more money for racing. My next challenge was the most difficult. We moved to Texas, and The closest track was no longer thirty minutes away. Moving to a new state and finding a new place to continue my hobby and dream as a motocross racer was a new trouble to be fought. Years went by, and I still hadn’t raced or touched my gear. I never lost my passion, but I struggled and tried to find a way back to following my dream. Hitting another growth spurt I started all over again with a newer and much bigger bike! My bike today is a RM 125 Suzuki, two stroke. I’ve ran the bike hard training just to get back to racing, and I warped a few barings and melted the piston to the shaft. You can see how the troubles …show more content…
I learned success doesn’t come easy. I also learned that success doesn’t just get handed to you. You have to work for it, and I feel that the only time that you work really hard for something is when it is something you love. Here is how I believe I succeeded so far at becoming a motocross racer. I’ve worked to my best ability training and preparing myself for racing. I’ve kept my sponsors throughout the years, and I’ve put myself out there to find places to ride. Another big success of making your hobby a lifestyle; is making it your job. I feel my job has taught me more about racing because of my boss. Whom has shown more than just interest in my hobby, but he has also gone more into detail about the components of a bike. I work at Hill Country ATV and Cycle Repair; here in Harper, Texas. My drive for success with this kind of job during my highschool career seems crazy, but I feel like I’m one step closer everyday to truly succeeding at making my hobby my

Edward Said States

...No Place Like Home   Edward Said's States is an excerpt from his book After the Last Sky: Palestinian Lives. It's a story about Palestine, once a country, but now spread out into a million pieces of the people that once called it home. The pieces being more of memories of a time when Palestinians could be who they are, not a scattered and forgotten people. They all face a new struggle, a struggle to find their identity. "Identity- who we are, where we come from, what we are- is difficult to maintain in exile. Most other people take their identity for granted. Not the Palestinian, who is required to show proofs of identity more or less constantly." (Page 546) Said, being Palestinian himself, tells us this story in what was called a "hybrid" type of writing. He does this by letting the pictures take precedence in telling his story but then describes each picture by going back and forth from a history point of view, to his own recollections of his childhood. The way he describes each picture makes you feel as if you were at one time in that picture and can feel an emotional connection to it. Through each photo, we get a really sense of what it is like to be Palestinian, to have it all taken away and how they started new. The way Said puts the story together without any time frame, is an example of why his writing style was described as a hybrid. He will start with describing a picture by telling us facts about his country and then interrupt himself, like he's actually have a...

The White Tiger

...to the Premier of China, who will soon be visiting India. Balram is an Indian man from an impoverished background, born in the village of Laxmangarh. Early on, he describes his basic story: he transcended his humble beginnings to become a successful entrepreneur in Bangalore, largely through the murder Mr. Ashok, who had been his employer. Balram also makes clear that because of the murder, it is likely that his own family has been massacred in retribution. In Laxmangarh, Balram was raised in a large, poor family from the Halwai caste, a caste that indicates sweet-makers. The village is dominated and oppressed by the “Four Animals,” four landlords known as the Wild Boar, the Stork, the Buffalo, and the Raven. Balram's father is a struggling rickshaw driver, and his mother died when he is young. The alpha figure of his family was his pushy grandmother, Kusum. Balram was initially referred to simply as “Munna,” meaning “boy," since his family had not bothered to name him. He did not have another name until his schoolteacher dubbed him Balram. The boy proved himself intelligent and talented, and was praised one day as a rare “White Tiger” by a visiting school inspector. Unfortunately, Balram was removed from school after only a few years, to work in a tea shop with his brother, Kishan. There, he furthered his education by eavesdropping on the conversations of shop customers. Balram feels that there are two Indias: the impoverished “Darkness” of the rural inner continent, and the...

...film. The research will be done by using survey techniques and will be given to 100 participants among the student population in UiTM Shah Alam. This study will show that horror comedy genre demand are more than horror genre. 1.Introduction In my opinion, horror film is a genre that aims to create a sense of fear, panic, alarm, and dread for the audience. These films are often unsettling and rely on scaring the audience through a portrayal of their worst fears and nightmares. Horror films usually center on the arrival of an evil force, person, or event. Horror film may become as an adventures to some people. This is because the film may play with the viewer emotions. According to Danielle Braff on his article about Movies may cause special effects on the body, he stated that the people who are fascinated by horror movies tend to be the same people who love to sky-dive, go rock climbing and try extreme skiing adventures. The horror genre allows them the opportunity to experience events and people who otherwise wouldn't enter their lives. In my opinion, comedy is a genre of film in which the main emphasis is on humour. These films are designed to entertain the audience through amusement, and most often work by exaggerating characteristics of real life for humorous effect. Horror comedy is a type of horror film in which the usual dark themes are treated with a humorous approach. Horror...

...A Comparative Analysis of Nike and Adidas Commercials * A Multimodal Approach to Building Brand Strategies Mads Nørgaard Hansen Dennis Gade Pedersen BA Marketing and Management Communication Supervisor: Carmen Daniela Maier Department of Language and Business Communication Aarhus School of Business Aarhus University 2010 A Comparative Analysis of Nike and Adidas Commercials * A Multimodal Approach to Building Brand Strategies Mads Nørgaard Hansen and Dennis Gade Pedersen Abstract Heavy competition in the sports industry has caused organisations like Nike and Adidas to focus on more than just selling sportswear- and equipment. Organisations need to differentiate themselves and focus on both product attributes and brand values when creating brand strategies. Therefore, we have found it interesting to see how Nike and Adidas communicate their branding strategy differently and have set up the following hypothesis and questions: In Nike and Adidas commercials the organisations make use of complex multimodal choices in order to communicate their branding strategies. 1. Which multimodal choices do Nike and Adidas employ in order to communicate their branding strategies? 2. Which personality traits are similar and different in Nike and Adidas product and value commercials? Due to the complexity of our hypothesis, we will employ three frameworks: social semiotics, film theory, and branding. These frameworks will help us to analyse and...

Motivating Empltee

...Staff surveys are usually very helpful in establishing whether staff in your company are motivated and therefore performing to best effect. Aside from the information that questionnaires reveal, the process of involving and consulting with staff is hugely beneficial and motivational in its own right, (see the 'Hawthorne Effect'). Whilst your survey will be unique to your company, your staff issues, your industry and culture, some useful generic guidelines apply to most situations. Although not exhaustive, the following ten points may help you cover the relevant subject areas and help towards establishing facts rather than making assumptions about motivation when designing your own questionnaires on employee motivation.   ten tips for questionnaires on employee motivation 1. What is the 'primary aim' of your company? Your employees may be more motivated if they understand the primary aim of your business. Ask questions to establish how clear they are about your company's principles, priorities and mission. 2. What obstacles stop employees performing to best effect? Questionnaires on employee motivation should include questions about what employees are tolerating in their work and home lives. The company can eliminate practices that zap motivation. 3. What really motivates your staff? It is often assumed that all people are motivated by the same things. Actually we are motivated by a whole range of factors. Include questions to elicit what really motivates...

Analyzing the Author's Purpose

...7 ANALYZING THE AUTHOR’S PURPOSE AND TECHNIQUE he writer’s overall purpose determines the techniques he or she uses. The writer’s reason for writing a particular article or book may be manipulative, as in propaganda or advertising, or may be more straightforward, as in informative writing. In either case, understanding the writer’s underlying purpose will help you interpret the context of the writing. It will also help you see why writers make the decisions they do—from the largest decisions about what information to present to the smallest details of what words to use. The chapter concludes with instructions on how to write an analysis of purpose and technique. This kind of rhetorical analysis will provide the perspective required to keep you from being pushed by words in directions you don’t want to go. T 103 104 Part 1 Writing About Reading The Writer's Purpose Insofar as people know what they are doing, they plan their actions to achieve their purposes. Someone who selects the purpose of being rich will design and carry out a set of actions, legal or illegal, to gain the desired wealth. A person who wants to gain great wisdom will design an entirely different life course. Writers, whether they want most to be wealthy or wise, have specific purposes they hope to achieve by any piece of work. If they are skilled writers—that is, in control of what they write—they design each aspect of what they are writing to achieve their purpose. Being aware of the writer's...
