Personal Responsibility Essay There are different perceptions of personal responsibility while obtaining college success, personal responsibility is very important asset and characteristic to portray as a person when pursuing an education. Therefore it is important for me as a student to develop and practice strategies that will assist me as a student with acquiring successful personal responsibility traits for school. I need to make sure that I schedule time that is sufficient and convenient without having any interruptions. This means that I need prioritize things that are most important to the least important. The strategies to help maximize my time during class and reach my education goals is to keep planner and write down daily activities, events, and work schedule this will help me to know what is taking place on certain days on what time that I can schedule for class. Take things one step at a time, making sure to not get overwhelmed or overload myself with trying to do to many things within a day or at one time. Once I have completed something note this with the planner as being accomplished. Always leave room for things to change and try to be flexible within my schedule. Making sure to check the syllabus thoroughly to know what assignments I have for the week and when they are required to be submitted is effective method to help me with time management; it allows me to schedule necessary time to ensure I’m able to complete all assignments.
To prohibit procrastination I should have a study environment that is most effective which means finding a place that I will be able to study and do assignments where I will be the only one occupying this space at that time without any distraction which can lead to procrastination. No distractions meaning no TV, cell phone, or radio. This area should be neat and clean and free of clutter, should have good lighting, and have all the necessary materials that I will need for doing assignments such as pen paper, hi-liters books and or dictionary. By having everything within this area eliminates wasting time finding things needed. Another method of prohibiting procrastination is to make sure start assignments early and stick to the study schedule I have set for myself. Making sure that I start my studies on time and don't let others things interfere with this time or distract me from studying at this particular set time.
It’s very important to keep a line of communication with my instructor, which can be done by making sure that I read all important messages that are posted directly by him/her. If I have difficulty with any assignment it is important that I contact the instructor immediately so that I can be assisted with the problem or get a more clear understanding of the steps I need to take to resolve the problem. A helpful communication strategy is to become acquainted with co-students introducing myself and informing them of some things about myself pertaining to my academic goal, by doing this help me to be able to communication more efficiently with others and having co-students I can contact if I or they need help with class assignment or other matter pertaining to school. Actively participating in class discussion is another positive communication method of demonstrating personal responsibility because in order to be successful in class I willing to communicate with co-student. Participation is important because it allows us to discuss academic subject matter where I as a student can share and receive information on the things I am learning in class as student and allows others to see I can be counted on a willing team member to contribute to our learning environment.
The University Library offers abundant of resources through the Writing Excellence to help me with my writing such as Write Point, and Plagiarism Checker. In utilizing these resources can ensure that I’m can submit good paper. River Point is helpful in helping to format my paper correctly paper with adding references and citation where needed. Plagiarism Checker allows me to submit my paper to allow me to see if any part of my written work is subject to plagiarism. Write Point allows me to submit my paper to check for grammatical errors and to give suggestions on how I should revise my writing to have a better paper. In using these resources from the University Library shows my personal responsibility in wanting to do well in my academics.
Steps to improve on my career competencies are: I. I will learn Business Terminology and the everyday use of business words is my first priority, this will help me become more familiar with procedure. II. I will learn how businesses incorporate technology in the Business World, is my second priority, today’s business function widely on technology, it joins businesses around the world together and help others to communicate in ways that before only could only be did by traveling to meet the people in person, whereas now you can conduct online conferences, email, and instant messaging. III. I will learn the operations of starting and running a business is my third priority, learning what is needed to start and run a business is very important to have a well establish business. IV. I will learn what is needed to successfully operate and maintain a business is my fourth priority, once I have started the business I must successfully have the knowledge of what is need to keep the business going and running productively.
In making ethical decision means having integrity to do the right thing, which I based on it is important that I honor and follow all academic guidelines of the school. I should respect the school and the other students who attend the University. Having integrity shows others I can be trusted and depended upon to do what is right which also example of my personal responsibility as a student.
Collaborative strategies I plan to use when working in Learning Teams during in the future courses is first understanding that all individuals who may be participating may from all parts of the world, which means I’m working in a diverse group with different cultural and ethnic background with different ways of learning and thinking. Strategy steps to take is getting to know everyone in the team and learning his/her strengths pertaining to academics, having someone appointed lead person, supplying and having contact information from everyone on team so students can be notified about things happening within the group, having the understanding that everyone has responsible part in the group and it should be honor, having rules for the group and knowing the consequences if these rules are broken. I think having these strategies will help to form a successful team and help in us as student to be perform well in our academics.
My academic goal is earning a degree in business. To be able to achieve this goal I must be discipline, dedicated, and motivated to do what is required of me as a student. I must participate in class discussion, study and complete required assignments to be able to make my goals a reality. My professional goal is being able to work in the business industry or office facility where I may apply the skills that I have learned along with the knowledge gain.
My sense of personal responsibility influences my work and success by giving me the understanding that it is entirely up to me if I am successful in achieving my goals I have set for myself. This sense of personal responsibility motivates me to want to accomplish goals I have set for myself; therefore it is my responsibility to always strive to do my best on whatever I have set out to do regardless if the task is small or major. I very responsible in wanting to achieve my goals because I know how I want my life to be within the next 5 years from now which is having a degree ad being able to obtain stable employment with company where I won’t feel as though I am working from paycheck to paycheck, therefore that means I must be responsible for making sure that I complete assignments through implementing time management, avoid procrastination, keeping open communication with instructors and co-students, and utilizing the University Library resources which is reflection on my perception of the importance of personal responsibility.
