It can be seen as a moral, metal accountability, reliability or trustworthiness (“Merriam Webster,”). While making excuses, individuals who use an ethical lens of rights and responsibility utilize a number of traits when assuming personal responsibility for college success. In my personal responsibility essay I would like to identify a few of the traits a responsible person should possess for college success. Define what personal responsibility means to me. Explain the correlation of personal responsibility and college success. I also will outline a preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility with in my education. When a student uses rights and responsibility to accept responsibility in order to achieve college success, he or she must possess a number of traits. One such trait would be the ability to reason. Reason is the ability to use critical thinking as means for learning and complex problem solving. Day 06/24/13 Teresa Sanders GEN/200 Example: In a previous faculty position I was assigned to cover a dosage calculation in a medical assisting course which was a small portion of a 12 credit course that had nearly 70 students enrolled. I was told that "we don't teach math" as "this is not a math class". The course was to be a self-directed course with students meeting for 1 hour weekly to ask questions about the content they were to have reviewed during the previous week and work on 3 - 5 problems as a group. Students were given one exam at the end of the quarter and were required to obtain a passing score of 100%. They were given 3 opportunities to test. Background: I had never taught dosage calculation prior to this. Students reported receiving information during orientation that they had to achieve a passing score of both 80% and 90% which conflicted with two versions of a handbook they received and the syllabus that stated a passing score of 100% was mandatory. If they did not achieve a passing score of 100% after 3 attempts, they failed the entire 12 credit course. I was not permitted to write any of the test questions and had no knowledge of information of types of questions on the 20 question exam. During the previous 7 quarters, a total of 6 different instructors had covered this portion of the course and the course coordinator was not one of the six. One can say that these women have accepted and internalized a female role in society, by either following the rules of patriarchal society or breaking them. Edna, the protagonist of The Awakening, is a woman in search of her female identity. She is uncomfortable in her role as the “patriarchal woman” and has trouble obtaining either of the other two roles. This essay will focus on Edna’s inability to find her female role. Comparing her to the three other types of women in Chopin’s works, I will show why she cannot conform to any one of these roles, and how the resulting suicide is a conscious choice very much in character with Chopin’s portrayal of her. To understand Edna’s role in society and that of the women whom she is compared to one must first know what a patriarchal society is and what it means to internalize this system.
