Baylor has an incredible business and international studies programs, which are two fields that I am incredibly interested in. Due to DECA, I have truly found a passion for the business side of the world. I love the constant critical and abstract thinking that are necessary in the world of business. Additionally, I think that my bilinguality will truly help me to strive in my pursuit of business and international dealings. I am extremely interested in pursuing a career that is internationally based and that calls for entrepreneurship. …show more content…
The shooting did not really "affect" me until a couple of months later. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd to find friends. I was neglecting school because I didn't want the constant memoranda. And though, those were both my personal failures in high school, I have learned and grown significantly from the shooting, the wrong friends, and neglecting school. I have learned that it is okay to not be okay, it is okay to ask for and seek help. I have truly become a more compassionate, selfless, and considerate person. I try to bring a smile to those around me, may it be in the form of a joke, a hug, or a the simple act of saying hello to a stranger. ...Care Professionals” 2). It is completely unacceptable to have an outbreak of a disease that is almost completely preventable and was eliminated from the United States 15 years ago. In order to protect citizens against communicable diseases, it should be mandatory for almost everyone to receive vaccinations. There are two types of immunizations: active and passive. The more common of the two is the active immunization, which stimulates the body’s immune system to fabricate a defense against a disease-causing microorganism (“Immunization” 1). The first recorded active immunization was Edward Jenner’s use of the cowpox virus to produce immunity to smallpox in 1796 (Riedel 5). Currently, any formulation containing a microorganism for the purpose of immunization is referred to as a vaccine. A population is fully protected from a disease when herd immunity has been reached ("Herd Immunity — History of Vaccines." 1). Herd immunity is when those who cannot become vaccinated are indirectly protected by the large, vaccinated percentage...

Male Coaches in Female Sports

...U.S. women’s soccer team winning the World Cup in 1999; women’s sports have slowly gained interest from others. For many years, only women coached women’s sports, but since Title IX was passed there has been a gradual increase in male coaches in women’s sports. Studies have shown that approximately 71% of female athletes prefer a male coach (Lirgg, Dibrezzo, & Smith, 1994). In the studies discussed in the review of literature, researchers chose to focus on determining female athletes’ opinions and experiences when being coached by a male coach. However, there is limited research on this topic. Therefore, this study will further analyze the different reasons why female athletes prefer to be coached by a male coach. Purpose of Study The purpose of this study is to research why female athletes prefer male coaches. The study will analyze the different reasons for female athletes preferring male coaches. This study will contain only college female athletes. Significance of Study The significance of this study is to show why 71% of female athletes prefer a male coach (Lirgg, Dibrezzo, & Smith, 1994). With the right coach, players could be more motivated to perform at their highest level, which could translate into a successful season. Hypothesis In this study it is hypothesized that female athletes will...

How Will the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Change Healthcare?

...place in this country whether we want it or not! Now that the 2012 election is over, more changes will start to take place throughout the next few years. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act became a law on March 23, 2010 (Glass, 2012). The purpose of this project is to persuade any individual that will read my paper that we, as a country, will not be better off with new healthcare reform. Our president has been re-elected for a second term, healthcare reform will be enforced and made into laws, which will affect our lives, as we know it today. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will change the way healthcare organizations conduct business. There are those that say things will be better, but I do not see that happening. Healthcare costs are already rising because companies do not know what to expect. We are already paying too much for healthcare. I do not want to pay more, do you? According to Humana (2012), healthcare in the United States did not gain ground until the late 1930s when Blue Shield insurance and Baylor Hospital in Dallas created a system - now known as Blue Cross Blue Shield – in which Blue Shield established a way for “doctors to protect their interests and their payments” along with Baylor helping people pay their hospital bills (Humana, 2012). The success of Blue Cross Blue Shield encouraged others to enter the healthcare market. Once these other insurers entered the market – the system began to change (Humana, 2012). These changes...

...Acceptance of Evolution and Support for Teaching Creationism in Public Schools: The Conditional Impact of Educational Attainment JOSEPH O. BAKER Department of Sociology and Anthropology East Tennessee State University Public acceptance of evolution remains low in the United States relative to other Western countries. Although advocates for the scientific community often highlight the need for improved education to change public opinion, analyses of data from a national sample of American adults indicate that the effects of educational attainment on attitudes toward evolution and creationism are uneven and contingent upon religious identity. Consequently, higher education will only shift public attitudes toward evolution and away from support for teaching creationism in public schools for those who take non-“literalist” interpretive stances on the Bible, or to the extent that it leads to fewer people with literalist religious identities. Keywords: evolution, creationism, religious identity, education, science and religion, public policy. INTRODUCTION Acceptance of evolution and support for creationism has been publicly debated since the initial diffusion of Darwin’s theory about the origin of species, particularly in the United States (Numbers 1998, 2006). From before the infamous Scopes Trial (see Larson 1997) to the present, many Americans have resisted ideas about evolution, leading to a relatively low global ranking on public acceptance of the theory...

Neuromarketing

...Within the skull lies the most complex organ known to mankind -- the human brain. With a mass of only 6 kilograms, the brain contains over 100 billion living cells and 1 million kilometers of interconnecting fibers; but, exactly how does it function? Marketing and sales managers would love to know why consumers are attracted to certain advertising, packaging and brands. Martin Lindstrom, author of Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy, explains the marketing challenge, “When we walk down an aisle in a grocery store, our purchasing decisions are made in less than four seconds…there is no way we can think about that in a complete way. Those decisions take place in the subconscious part of the brain” (2008). The drive behind neuromarketing is to discover how consumers are actually responding to marketing messages, not how they report they are responding, or will respond. Neuromarketing studies consumers' response to marketing stimuli and matches that response to different areas of the brain. This research will explore neuromarketing history, levels of the brain, neuroimaging techniques used, advertising effectiveness of neuromarketing and some challenges facing this new field. History In 1991, Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, Minilab chairman and director of research, began Neuromarketing research in the United States, after stumbling upon it when he was researching treatments for phobic anxiety and stress (Lewis, 2010). Shortly after, marketers from large companies such as Coca-Cola...
