The Fraternity has been in existence since the Fall of 1956. Our chapter is among the largest and strongest active fraternities at Arizona State University and our philanthropic events are much appreciated throughout the community. Sugita Arizona State University Author Note This paper was prepared for TMC: 330 Leading the Enterprise, taught by Dr. Ernest Hirata Abstract Goal-setting theory is summarized regarding the effectiveness of specific, difficult goals; the relationship of goals to affect; the mediators of goal effects; the relation of goals to self-efficacy; the moderators of goal effects; and the generality of goal effects across people, tasks, countries, time spans, experimental designs, goal sources (i.e., self-set, set jointly with others, or assigned), and dependent variables. Recent studies concerned with goal choice and the factors that influence it, the function of learning goals, the effect of goal framing, goals and affect (well-being), group goal setting, goals and traits, macro-level goal setting, and conscious versus subconscious goals are described. ...How can a writer provide his or her readers with personal insights about highly debatable themes, such as social and racial segregation impact in the fragile educational system in these United Sates–with a dash of political innuendos, as some might argue–without being deliberately facetious? Ruben Navarrette Jr., a proud Mexican America and Harvard graduate certainly aims and hit the nerve of old societal conceptions considered by him to be unfairly outdated, as he candidly elaborates a persuasive narrative in “Well, I Guess They Need Their Minority” (Maasik, Solomon 211). Navarrette sails through his writing, exposing a mix of personal frustrations and psychological torture from his early years. The article’s vivid description of a kid whose hard work and dedication to excel as a high school student ‘shooting for the starts’ and being accepted by the country’s most prestigious universities should be nothing but an inspiring tool to all young minds out there. Instead, the piece brings a harsh and dry reality picture of a world unknown to most teens; the real and spiteful world where the grown-ups live in: a place doused with prejudice, shallow in values, and worst of all, a place where skin or hair color not only imply but dictates social status and where the human rights solely sound good on the paper. Yet, while presenting his views on the hurtful reactions he encountered upon receiving good news from prestigious colleges that he’d met the standards to get in, Navarrette delves...

...Diabetes Edith Stanfield Capella University Assessment, Communication and Collaboration BSN 4002 Dr, Marzilli March 9, 2014 Diabetes Introduction The word “diabetes” means “siphon”. The term diabetes probably originated by Apollonius of Memphis around 250BC. It was published in English, in the first medical text in 1425. (Mandal, n.d., p.1). Every hour of every day, another person is diagnosed with Diabetes. More than 471 million people live with Diabetes every day, and there are about 13,000 newly diagnosed everyday (Diabetic Care Services, 2013, p. 1). Some of these people will not only be insulin dependent for life but they must change their entire family’s lifestyle. Not only does Diabetes effect the person who was diagnosed, but it affects friends and family, they must learn to live and adjust to have a diabetic in the family. Psychosocial issues are one of the biggest obstacles to overcome when being diagnosed with Diabetes. Family and friend support and encouragement will make this disease easier to manage. The purpose of this paper is to examine the lifestyles, demographics of my community and what, we as nurses, can do to help with managing this disease. ...The Conflicts within the San Francisco Peaks Rising out of the Colorado Plateau in Northern Arizona are the majestic San Francisco Peaks. To the Hopi, the mountains are Nuvatukaovi, “The Place of Snow on the Very Top”, home to the ancestral kachina spirits who live among the clouds around the summit. To the Navajo, the mountains are Doko’oo’sliid, “Shining on Top”, a place where medicine men collect herbs for healing ceremonies. The peaks are one of the “sacred places where the Earth brushes up against the unseen world,” in the words of Yavapai-Apache Chairman Vincent Randall (San Francisco Peaks). To skiers, the mountains are home to the Arizona Snowbowl, a 777 acre ski resort only four hours away from Phoenix. The San Francisco Peaks have long been the source of land-use conflicts. Starting in the late 1800s, the area was extensively logged and grazed. At the same time, the area’s natural beauty attracted tourists and outdoor adventurists. The use of the west side of the San Francisco Peaks for skiing began in 1937, when the Civil Conservation Corps built a road and a small lodge at the base of the Anazani Peak. In 1978 the US Forest Service approved a major expansion into what today is known as the Arizona Snowbowl, with thirty-two trails and four lifts that can accommodate up to 180,000 skiers (Nabokov, pg 140). In 2002 the US Forest Service accepted a proposal from the Snowbowl to expand the resort and to use reclaimed water for snowmaking. The proposal received...

This anecdotal, four paged article, discusses how individuals eventually become judged and stereotyped based upon specific characteristics they hold, or attribute themselves to. Zimmerman reflects upon his youth in an attempt to demonstrate this common action in society. He offers the readers of his article the ability to visualize his punk past and his punk experiences, displaying the manner in which stereotyping presents itself with specific preferences people have for music. By doing so, Josh Zimmerman attempts to portray that when individuals choose to associate themselves with the unconventional at the expense of being generalized, that such decisions enable the individual to formulate their own unique characteristics. ...For the exclusive use of N. Sinden, 2015. 9-602-061 REV: MARCH 18, 2002 STEFAN THOMKE Siemens AG: Global Development Strategy (A) It was the spring of 2000, but even under the afternoon shade of the palm trees at the Oberoi hotel in Bangalore, South India, it felt like summer. Horst Eberl sat contemplating the recommendations that he and his subdivisional co-head, Karl-Friedrich Hunke, would be preparing for the Siemens Information and Communications Networks (ICN) management board. Things were neat, tidy, and cool on this grassy side of the hotel. Just outside the main walls however lay the dust, pollution, and confusion of the Indian traffic. And if one took life in one’s hands by darting through the traffic, across the street lay Siemens’ regional development center in India, scattered among floors rented in three different office buildings. Two back-up power generators, as well as battery backup for all computers, helped ensure a reliable infrastructure for the 600 personnel here. What vexed Eberl and Hunke was that Deutsche Telekom, Siemens ICN’s largest customer, was upset because of slow product delivery on a new telecommunications software product, the so-called NetManager. For a variety of reasons the project had rapidly mushroomed in size and scope beyond what had been initially envisioned. To solve the problem, Eberl, co-head of ICN’s largest subdivision, had to travel some 7000 kilometers to this dusty corner of the world: despite the conveniences...

...communication styles will all be different depending on the location of the workplace and team goals for specific projects within an organization. How an organization manages these differences amongst their employees can prove to be the reasons for their successes and/or failures throughout the life of the company. Communication is vital to the success of any business. It must start at the top and work through its employees on every level. The first communication step a company should perform would be to create a mission and vision statement for the company. This would be the company’s initial attempt to define itself to its potential customers and employees. It is to be hoped that this communication from the top tier of the organization will clearly define the companies intentions for its business practices and this information will be properly relayed to its employees as they conduct business as described by these statements. Organization culture can be defined as the shared beliefs and values of an organization. The culture of an organization is generally defined by its employees. The employees own values and beliefs will shape the behaviors that will be seen throughout an organization. If a CEO/manager of an organization wants to ensure good values be adhered to within their organization they will have to take a front line approach in making sure the right people are hired for the job. Diversity in the workplace is inevitable. The more culturally...
