...Personal Goals Tracy Saunier HCS/301 September 16, 2014 Nancy Shultes Personal Goals Setting goals and achieving them are essential components for personal growth and development. When we set goals for ourselves we never set out thinking failure is an option. There are always barriers to overcome, but overcoming the milestones keep us motivated to achieve what we originally set out to do. My personal goals for the future consist of relocating, followed by a professional promotion into management, and completing my degree in order to have a successful life ahead of me. A personal short term goal of mine is to sell my home. I am preparing my home for resale and hope to place it on the market with a realtor in the next few months. There have been many barriers to overcome to overcome in this preparation. To date, I have replaced the kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioner, carpet, tile, and painted inside and out. There are still a few cosmetic things I need to do such as fixing up the yard and staining the driveway. Once those things are completed I will contact the realtor to obtain an appraisal to see how much I can list my property for. My long term personal goal is downsizing from my current five bedroom home and purchasing a town home. Three of my four children are grown and have moved into their own homes which just leaves myself and my youngest daughter. Living in this large house is no longer necessary nor financially beneficial. With the help of a realtor along...

...A life without goals is really a life without purpose. That is why I have laid out my goals into four main categories of my life. My main 8 goals in life are in 4 categories, which include high school, college, my career, and my personal life. To begin with, the first category of my goals in life has to do with high school. One goal I have in high school is to play soccer on the Marina team for all four years I go to high school. This could help me by preparing me for college, not only to get on a college’s soccer team, but it also would teach me to work hard and not give up. To do this, I will have to constantly be ready to sacrifice my free time in order to be willing to train with my team. Moving on, I would like to graduate high school with at least a 3.5 GPA. While this will be...

...Personal Goals Houa Chang HCS/301 June 17, 2013 Dale Mueller Goals, as we define them, are to have a set outcome. We invent them out of fantasy of how we want our lives to be, we cannot predict our future, so setting goals helps guide us. When we set goals it does not end when we achieve that goal. We accomplish the goal, we immediately look to the next goal, therefore I have set out my professional short and long -term goals. Some of them include professional, personal, and when I plan on completing these goals. I have also taken into consideration barriers that I may come across throughout my journey. Personal Goals Setting goals helps us to determine where we vision ourselves in the future. It encourages us to strive for better opportunities that allow for individual growth. My idea of nursing is to be a patient advocate and use effective communication. Ethnicity, religion, and an individual’s background plays an important role but that is why nursing is so diverse and special. It allows each of us to set out short and long- term goals to improve ourselves. As stated by Cynthia O’Neal, (November 2004). Journal of Nursing Education, 43 (11), 524. “In today’s health care environment, baccalaureate nurses must be prepared to use essential leadership skills to manage and coordinate teams of care.” Professional Short -Term Goal My personal short-term goal is to obtain a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. I want to...

...Personal Goals Kimberly Ryker HCS/301 Undergraduate Nursing Studies October 9, 2011 Hope Dunn Personal Goals Gustavus F. Swift once said “The secret of all great undertakings is hard work and self-reliance”. His words constantly remind me of how I want to live my life. I continually set goals and work to accomplish them. My professional short-term and long-term goals are to become Critical Care Registered Nurse credentials and Advanced Nurse Practitioner specializing in critical care, whereas my personal goals are to be physically fit and an amazing mother. After moving to North Carolina from Washington, I knew I might not work in the same area as I did back home. While in Washington I enjoyed working as a critical care nurse on a Progressive Care unit and was studying for my PCCN credential. Upon arrival to North Carolina I found myself in an unfamiliar territory. I was in a large community but, with limited hospitals nearby, it made for a difficult time to set myself apart from applicants for the limited critical care positions available. I could demonstrate my clinical and communication skills, as well as my ability to work in a team environment, and to my surprise, obtained an ICU position. I have been working a 34-bed ICU for two years and the vast of knowledge gained has been tremendous. I believe it is time to put my knowledge to the test. I would very much like to have my CCRN credential. I have met the requirements needed to qualify for the examination, and...

...safe to assume that it is something most people strive to achieve. For most people, success does not come easy. It is earned by hard work, perseverance, and the belief that nothing is impossible. To become successful requires one to take risks, to step out of their comfort zone. As the adage says, “If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten.” Travelers usually begin trips by first choosing a destination. It allows them to prepare beforehand, so they know what to do upon arriving. Setting goals helps us figure out where we are going and helps us realize when we have “arrived.” Goal setting seems to be the first stop to success. Once worthwhile goals have been figured out, one can take control and shape their careers and futures to facilitate personal enhancement. Goals help set up an action plan and breaks up improbable challenges into manageable steps. My short-term professional goal is to pass the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) examination by the end of this year. A study conducted by the American Board of Nursing Specialties on the perceived value of nursing certifications showed that the attainment of such increases empowerment and feelings of confidence, marketability, and professional credibility (Grief, 2007). Patients view it as proof of excellence; that a nurse is competent, knowledgeable and has a certain amount of expertise. This proof of excellence leads to in increased sense of comfort and trust in the patient...

...• Personal Goal: Work on Communication Skills (Verbal and Nonverbal) o Intermediate Goal 1: Listen actively. Action Item 1: Suspend judgement, comments, and criticism. Action Item 2: Reflect back to the speaker what you understand is being said. o Intermediate Goal 2: Practice conversations with myself—either talking to myself in the mirror or video recording conversations so I can see what others are seeing. Action Item 1: Learn to use the video record function of my camera by reading the manual Action Item 2: Set aside twenty minutes two times a week to practice using positive tone of voice, facial expression and body language when I speak. o Intermediate Goal 3: Get feedback and track my progress Action Item 1: Have face-to-face interaction with someone else and ask them where you did good and where you need more practice. Action Item 2: Be conscious of hand gestures, facial grimacing, and bodily/ kinesthetic movement. In this personal goal to develop both verbal and nonverbal communication skills, the very first thing that I must accomplish is to be an active listener. To be an active listener is to engage all of my senses. Making sure that I am present and giving the person that I am speaking with my undivided attention. Showing interest and encouraging the person to express himself or herself completely without interruption, judgement or criticism. In order to complete this goal, I have to be aware that developing effective communication skills is...

...Personal Financial Plan A personal financial plan needs to look at all aspects of spending, as well as income. Looking over my spending in comparison to my income leaves me with a surplus at the end of each month to save or invest. My personal financial goals are mainly to pay off my debts quicker and not paying as much in interest to the debtors. My initial financial plan is to pay more each month to my unsecured creditors and get them paid off quicker and save on interest. Getting these credit card paid off will help with cash flow because I will not be paying as much out and able to save more. I have cash flow coming from both my full time job and from the Montgomery GI Bill through the Veterans Affairs. With both of these incoming cash flows it makes my monthly income look to be greater than it is going to be when I graduate from school. This is because the GI Bill will no longer pay me a monthly stipend after I have graduated from school. Without this stipend, my monthly income will drop by $1700. A $1700 monthly decrease will put a serious hurt on my ability to pay more on my unsecured credit. My plan is to pay as much of that unsecured credit off while still receiving the GI Bill payments of $1700 a month. Like most people in school, I am hoping that my college degree will assist me in making a greater income. Looking to the future if I pay off as much of the unsecured credit as I can with my extra monthly money I will be left with only my secure credit, one...

...Personal Plan for Success My academic and career success is very important to me. I am very happy I chose to enroll at UOP because I really feel they are trying in many ways to help us out academically by providing a site that has many resources and tools to help us succeed. The support resources available to me like the CWE lab and Math lab will definitely help me when I feel stuck on an assignment. I live right across the street from the library so I can go over there and get some study time to help me stay focus. Staying motivated is easier said than done. I have a hard time sometimes staying focus because I find myself very indecisive at times. I found new ways to keep my self-motivated. I enrolled in a gym membership that is not too far from where I live. Going to the gym will increase my energy flow and help me stay more active. Family is very important and I am glad I can count on my family to be there and support me. They motivate me in many ways to keep up the good work and aim higher. After taking the career competencies assessment, I realized that there are certain areas that I need to improve in. My writing, speech, and my critical thinking will definitely need to be mastered. Working on my creativity and people’s skill are things that I am planning on working on. I need to associate around more people to judge how I interact and handle situations under pressure. ...As a professional at Deloitte Pvt Ltd three personal goals that I want to achieve are, first is to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years. Next is to become a better writer. Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards. While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this will...

I have separated them into my career and personal goals both long-term and short-term. I also identified the skills needed to accomplish my goals. Mastering techniques in research, teamwork, communication, and certifications I must possess. There are also milestones and barriers that I have to overcome to achieve my goals. My goals must be set to give me focus on advancing my career and accomplishing my goals. “Goal-setting is one of the foundational cornerstones of everything - our success, the way we make choices with our time, the quality of life we will live - everything is impacted when we have clear, written goals.” (“Setting goals is important,” 2010 para 4). ...How personal and societal values can influence ethical decision-making? Regardless of what system of ethics one employs it will be severely tested by the behavior of actual human beings who seldom behave as systematically as the code by which one strives to assess them. One thing I have learned is that our ethical obligation as nurses is very much affected by the relationship of the people involved. As described by Chitty (2011) [pic]The code of ethics[pic] for nurses states [pic]that “the nurse practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and uniqueness of[pic] every [pic]individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes or the nature of health problems. In the case of Marianne the 79 y/o with the hemorrhagic stroke, the family is faced with a difficult decision on life, based on their personal values, morals and feelings about their mother. The husband may be thinking of his vows to his wife, which can be referred to the deontology theory. According to Chitty.K.K & Black. B.P., (2011) deontologist is not concerned with the consequences of adhering to certain rules or actions. If one’s guiding principles are “Always keep a promise” a deontologist will keep promises, even if circumstances have changed. Marianne’s daughters would need to help their father reflect on the repercussion of his decisions along with quality of life. According to Chitty, K.K & Plack. B.P.
