Personality & Emotional Development A child’s social development is very important to their development as a teenager and further as an adult when they grow older. Many skills are important to a child’s social development. In this report I will be spotlighting the three that I feel are probably the most important and why I find that to be true. These skills include the ability to communicate well with others, good problem solving skills, and respecting others and self and appreciating differences.
Communication with others is probably one of the most used and most important social skills that there is. The ability to communicate well allows children to understand and express their thoughts to others in a social setting. People communicate in many different ways, but one thing is true, everyone, in one way or another uses communication every day. Whether it is talking to your parents about what it is that you have to do after school that day; or talking to your peers about the plans you have for the weekend; or communicating to your teachers about your opinion on a question asked in class.
Communication is used every day in everything that you do and having good communication skills is very important. This is true so that you can, not only get your point across about the subject at hand, but also so that the people that you are communicating with might understand you easily. Being able to communicate effectively doesn’t just mean verbally. Communication is done over the phone, text messages, emails, in reports and many other mediums such as non-verbally. Non-verbal communication includes but is not limited to eye contact, body gestures, and tone of voice. Being effective at this social skill can affect every part of your life and can determine how positive or negative a child’s stress level becomes.
