...When it comes to my type of personality, there are ups and downs. I am described as agreeableness person. Some upsides of being a considerate and kind person are you gain respect from some people, you are able to deal with others rather they are kind or not, and you know how to let things go without a big deal because of your consideration for others. This describes me every day. It can also be a bad thing when you are kind in many ways. Some downsides of my personality type are people try and take advantage over you, you feel as if you owe someone something, and you let people get away with things easily. These downsides make you feel as if you are in the wrong, but that is not true. Some people just do not know how to deal with a good-natured person. Becoming a leader is not for everyone. Based on my score, I can stand to take a few steps to become a better at it. Leaders have to be firm, and I am not as firm as I should be. My kindness is taken for a weakness. If you are unsure on how to solve situations without your feelings being involved, you will not be a great leader. I feel this way because I believe that our heart tells us things based on our personal beliefs, but in the business world that will not work. Business and personal life do not go together. You must leave personal life at home. When working, my personality type helps me understand people more. I am able to listen to them and pick up on some things. It is the same for school, but as a team player, It...

...Historical and Contemporary Issues in Psychology Evaluate the use of the Construct of Personality in Modern Life Broadly speaking personality can be defined as patterns of behaviour, thoughts and feelings. Accordingly a person’s behaviour allows us to infer future behaviour and describe how we differ from each other (Pervin & John, 2001). Today the use of personality is widespread and can be seen in many areas of modern life such as clinical, health, educational, occupational and forensic settings. For this reason, in the western world personality is viewed as an important aspect or characteristic of a person, which people are forever seeking advice on how to change and improve (Brody & Ehrlichman, 1998). The use of psychological tests attempting to measure individual differences related to occupational behaviours have been used for over 60 years (Furnham, 1992). Frequently, they are used for selection and appraisal due to the vast number of applicants, the high costs of interviewing and the necessity for objective, comparative data (Hogan, Hogan & Roberts, 1996). Recent research in personnel psychology has relied on meta- analysis to develop generalizations about personality characteristics that are characteristic of success in job- related contexts. Accordingly, relating measures of the Big Five to job performance measures suggest that conscientiousness is the personality trait that is consistently related to measures of work- related performance (Barrick & Mount...

...The big five personality traits are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Scoring high on openness to experience means that you tend to be interested in learning new things and you are creative. Scoring low on openness to experience means that you are reserved, conservative, and traditional. The second personality trait is conscientiousness. Scoring high on conscientiousness means that you are organized, determined, and careful. Scoring low on conscientiousness means that you are careless, you believe everything you hear (gullible), or you could be a follower. The third personality trait is extraversion. Extraverts are people who are very outgoing, usually prefer group activities, have lots of friends, and are very social people. Scoring low on extraversion means that you are an introvert and you prefer small group activities rather than large, prefer quiet music, and individual sports. The fourth personality trait is agreeableness. Scoring high on agreeableness usually means that you are a helpful and understanding person. Scoring low on agreeableness means that you like to argue and you are strong willed. Last but not least is neuroticism. People who score high on neuroticism have mood swings and exhibit instability in emotions and interactions. They tend to be nervous. People who score low on neuroticism are usually calm and relaxed. I scored in the 5th percentile for openness to experience. I scored low on the scale...

...because I am a practical application or hands-on type of person, but that is just to cement information that I’ve already learned. For instance, when I first learned how to wire a three-way light switch, I used multiple forms of intelligence before I actually got to the hands-on. I used the verbal/linguistic because the instructor was talking out the steps as he progressed through the slide presentation. I also used visual/spatial because he had a slide show with a picture showing exactly what he was saying. In actuality, I already knew how to wire the switch before I even touched it. So, although I do learn by hands-on approach, intelligence is only a backup to two others. It just happens to be the most enjoyable. My scores on the personality section were pretty much what I expected. I know that I am an extrovert (11) mainly because the majority of my life has required me to work as a team. There was always an individual effort, but it was for a desired team result. I also figured that I would score higher for sensing (14) because I am a practical person. In the Corps the motto was “90% of your time will be spent on the 10%”. What that means is, 10% of Marines are the individuals that act without using common sense. Those are generally the people that are always in trouble. Therefore you spend a majority of your time with their legal matters, vice praising the ones that are utilizing common sense and staying out of trouble. I scored higher on thinking (12) because I...

...external representations of Victor Frankenstein’s internal rage. It is ironic that his own self-replication in the form of the creature brings him to his eventual demise. Another element that correlates with the Narcissus story pertains to the escapes and pursuits that are present in the novel. “Since Mary Shelley’s novel employs the element of flight (Walton to the pole, Victor from the Creature, the Creature in pursuit of Victor), Frankenstein embodies an additional element of the Narcissus complex” (Kestner 69-70). The grandiosity of his creation and pursuits end in a chase to eliminate any evidence of his mistakes. Jeffrey Berman summarizes all of these examples in comparison of narcissistic personality disorder: Victor exhibits, in fact, all the characteristics of the narcissistic personality disorder as defined in DSM-III: a grandi- sense of self-importance; preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success; exhibitionism; cool indifference or feelings of...

...“Development & Personality “Paper Development psychology is the study of change that occurs as an individual matures; this could affect an individual’s personality. A personality is the consistent, enduring and unique characteristics of a person. Although the personality never changes, it could be influenced by an individual’s development. A large influence of a person’s personality is their sexual development. The body is going through so many changes and the person, in him or herself is trying to figure out who he or she really is. Sexual development usually occurs as a young adult and mostly through love relationships. Based on Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development there are conflicts as an individual goes through the changes associated with this stage. Based on society, females, usually between the ages of 14- 19 (teens to young adulthood) go through many difficult changes based on their sexual development. Sexual behaviors in the teenage years are usually considered as cohort and ethic differences. Everyone has their own beliefs and ideas of how things should be, what is right from wrong, what could be done and what shouldn’t be done. Many people see things differently from how others see them. One could think something is okay to do while another person completely looks down upon it. Because of society, many females go through the pressure of making the right decisions while their body is going through many physical, emotional and mental changes...

...Naomi Chebii American Culture and Film 2nd Essay: 12 Years a Slave 28-09-2015 Ref: Analysis on 12 Years a Slave The film 12 Years a Slave tells the horrific true story of a free black man Solomon Northup, who was dragged, kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1850s America to suffer years of abuse in the Pre-Civil War South. From start to finish, basic facts about the time, the places, the people, and the practices of the day are incorporated, sometimes in excessive detail, into Northup’s story. He speaks with authority on all subjects of his enslavement, naming names and pointing out landmarks along the way. In doing so, he dares skeptics to refute his story, knowing that public record and common knowledge would defend it. The son of an emancipated slave, Northup was born free. He lived, worked, and married in New York, where his family resided. He was a multifaceted laborer and also an accomplished violin player. In 1841, aged 33, he was tricked into leaving his family behind his wife, and two young daughters, by two white con men, who offered him a job as a fiddler in a travelling circus. So he travelled with them to Washington, D.C., where they dragged him and sold him to a slave trader called Burch. Despite having papers showing he was a free man, Solomon was whipped and beaten and subjected into a brutal torture by his new owner. 12 Years a Slave serves as a timeless indictment of the practice of human slavery. As we saw from the film how Northup’s detailing the abuses...

That’s why my writing history started like that spontaneously. I really don’t like to write as my personality; however, this is a necessity for enhancing the ability to write an essay. Particularly, academic writing is the most important part of the studying in university, and my earlier writing experience is related just academic writing which is some type of essay such as, process essay, cause and effect essay and compare-contrast essay. One of the types of essay that I wrote first is process essay. That was really important experience because I had never written this type of essay. A process essay explains a process by either defining it, explaining the steps for completing the process oneself or by showing how a thing works. My process topic was “Things to Do in Case of Hurricane”. I explained the processes such as before the hurricane, during the hurricane and after the hurricane. The second type of the essay that I dealt is the cause and effect essay. That was one of the useful types of the essay because everybody can learn...

...In the postmodern society we live in today, the young people have more possibilities than ever. The young generation today have an enormous pressure on their shoulders. They have to be unique individuals; today’s society and media honour unique individuals! They have to get a good education otherwise they will not be able to make it in our society. The young generation today have the highest expectations for themselves ever, because the media, the society and the politicians only focus on the wonder kids and the unique individuals. These expectations can be hard for the young generation to cope with. Anne Hope has written the short story, “A Gap of Sky”, in 2008. The short story is written in a 3rd person omniscient narrator from the main character, Ellie’s point of view. The narrative mode used is description. The story is told as if the narrator is inside Ellie’s head; you would be able to replace the words “She” and “Ellie” with “I” instead and change the inflections, and the story would sound the same. The narrator describes what Ellie does, what she thinks and how she feels. The narrator is unreliable, because we see the story from a subjective point of view, Ellie’s point of view. The narrator has Ellie’s subjective point of view about the events and the characters of the story. The narrator describes Ellie through what she thinks, says and does. The language is informal. Through the language we get an idea of who Ellie is, she sounds like a normal adolescent girl,...

...Expensive Home The door thuds as you close it behind you on your way out to go to school, work, or wherever you are headed. You don’t have a second thought about what you’re leaving behind: your home. But have you ever thought about the significance of that word, “home”? In Joan Didion’s essay, “On Going Home”, Didion describes her experiences and thoughts on what defines her meaning of home. Didion uses many asyndetons and polysyndetons to emphasize her emotions and poses several rhetorical questions. Throughout the essay, it can be concluded that perhaps the generation that truly knows the meaning behind the word “home” is gradually disappearing. The contributing factors to such interpretation derived from Didion’s personal experiences with her direct family, her husband, and even her own daughter. Didion first sets her definition of home by clarifying that to her, home means “not where [her] husband and [she] and the baby live, but the place where [her] family is”. Her diction reflects the way she thinks about her home, with words such as “troublesome” that give off a negative connotation. Although she defines this place as her home, she expresses how she changes personalities and formalities in front of her parents and brother, which her husband is unfamiliar with. This transformation represents her familiarity with her family, whom she grew up with, or her childhood, and a vague description of what makes up her home. However, since she is not in her childhood anymore...
