Trait Model of Personality Trait theory is a common practice for learning personality. A trait is considered to be a characteristic that explains the behavior and thought process of an individual. Trait theory focuses more on the differences between others. It also looks at the influence of our behaviors. Gordon Allport described the interpretation of an individual personality. Allport believed, “That a trait would predict which behavior would manifest with high frequency, with intensity, and over a wide range of situations” (Lecci, L.,2013). Allport presented the theory about personality by using the English language to describe the interpretation of individual personality. In 1927, he released a publication that, in his opinion, outlined what the definition of a trait was. In his publication, Allport stated that there is no clear definition of personality traits, which caused confusion amongst the different theories. Raymond Cattell reduced the number of personality traits and classified them in a small number of clusters. The purpose of Cattell’s cluster was so that he can classify people based off of the different personalities that were developed, “data box concept has been applied to the study of how individuals differ in the within individual structure of personality states and emotions over time” (Revelle, W.,2009). He developed questionnaires and gave them to random people so that they can rate others. He believed that everyone has some form of personality fundamental personalities (Lecci, L.,2013). Psychologist H.J. Eysenck disagreed with the theory. He believed that there was a similarity between the Big Five factors. He believed that there needed to be a clear definition of factors.
