...Perspective on Health Care Lawrence Booker HCS/235 June 18, 2011 Dennis Phelps Abstract In my paper today I will be presenting my perspective on health care. I will describe what the word “health” means to me. I will describe my current position in health care and what new opportunities a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration will present in my current organization. It mentions my perspective on the career opportunities that a bachelors’ degree in Health Administration may offer. It describes the frequency of my access, cost, and experiences to health care. It explains my alternatives for care, and the cost associated with those visits. In paper the subject to describe is two other employers who are overlooked as part of health care that offer career opportunities. I will also describe one aspect of health care in the United States that I would change. In this paper health will be defined as the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; freedom from physical disease or pain (Merriam-Webster, 2011). An individual health is usually considered good or bad depending on how well he or she can physically perform normal daily tasks like running, walking, breathing, eating and other activities associated with the five senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. As a Director of Imaging (DI) without a bachelors’ degree the career opportunities are restricted to DI. The employment trend in DI requires that all individuals seeking employment as...

...Perspective on Health Care HCS/212 The history of health care has changed dramatically in the United States over the last 100 years. The most significant of those changes have occurred within the last 40 years. My personal interest in the history of health care is the advancement of technology and the progression of procedures to deliver adequate health care to everyone. Changing strategies to improve health care and access to healthcare for everyone is an area that I am interested in pursuing. I have experienced two different levels of healthcare in my life that have given me the opportunity of experiencing positive and negative outcomes to both levels. I will attempt to explain my experiences, opinions and research about the history of health care in the United States and the resources that I have found to be reliable. One of the biggest interests I have about the history of health care is the vast amount of changes and advancements that have taken place in recent decades. The origin of our modern system of healthcare can be traced to the beginning of the twentieth century. It went from an inadequate and primitive, but relatively inexpensive, health care service to a quality care that is far better and technologically advanced coming at a very high price tag. With advancement in the health care field, we have adopted more complexities in costs, insurance, and available coverage that is very confusing for many. Even though we have progressed in advanced medicine...

...Perspective on Health Care Nsunda Tezzo HCS 212 February 11, 2013 University of Phoenix Perspective on Health Care Health care is a broad term that is defined as care, treatment, management, and prevention of diseases using medical and health care professionals. Jacobsen (2012) cites that health care sector offers variety of exiting careers which health professionals can pursue including; health management, medical equipment sales, research, and discovery as well as clinic and chronic care centers management. All these areas have their specific importance in ensuring quality health delivery to people who seek medical services. One of the most interesting areas of health care for me is the medical research. Health or medical research is a systematic way of evaluating human infections and learning more about human health with the aim of discovering the human health disorders and inventing strategies for the preventing and treating human diseases (Jacobsen, 2012). It also involves the evaluation of safety and effectiveness of particular treatment procedures, validation of a course of treatment and collection of data that will allow future analysis of the study. History of Health Research and the Future Although health research dates back to early 14th century, active scientific approach to health care challenges started with studies about the antibiotics after the Second World War. The discovery of penicillin and vaccines like polio and measles opened studies for several...

...Perspective on Health Care In chapter 1 of the text book I found that there have been historical changes that have affected me and my experience as a health care provider. For one, my knowledge of certain diseases and syndromes like Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) has changed my thinking and how treating a patient with this condition appropriately. According to "Basic Information About Hiv And Aids" (2011), “Both types of HIV damage a person’s body by destroying specific blood cells, called CD4+T cells, which are crucial to helping the body fight diseases.” With this knowledge and knowing this information I still use appropriate universal precautions when necessary. But I do wear a mask into a patient’s room that I am aware has this syndrome if I am having cold or flu like symptoms. My body is able to fight off infections but there body is not. Another change that has affected me with my present job is “The most important factor in the decline in mortality during the twentieth century was essential hygiene, supported by home and workplace improvements and attempts to improve the environment. Better hygiene accounts for approximately one-fifth of the reduction in mortality.” (Stanfield, Cross, & Hui, 2009, p. Chapter 1 Page 4) Hand washing and using universal precautions appropriately is required in a hospital setting due to all the different diseases we come into contact with. The health care reform under the Obama...

...Perspective on Health Care Greg McLean HCS/212 July 10, 2012 Dr. Pamela Buckman Perspective on Health Care The author will discuss his perspective on health care through his professional experience. He will compare historical information to his personal experiences in health care and discuss how they may have changed his role in health care. He will also discuss what area he currently works in, how health care reform has affected this field, and his thoughts on the changes health care reform has brought about. Positive and negative outcomes linked to demographic indicators and available resources for finding information on the history of health care in the United States will also be discussed. As a child growing up with asthma in a metropolitan area, (Brooklyn, New York), in the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s, the author can relate to changes in the health care field once he grew up and became a member of that field. Back in the 60’s and 70’s, the author would be admitted to the hospital and put in what was called an oxygen tent to assist with the opening of the airways and breathing. A shot of adrenalin was administered in later years on an outpatient basis which was more effective in alleviating the constricted airway. Now, depending on the severity of the illness, a patient could still be admitted to a facility but oxygen tents are a thing of the past. Breathing treatments and respiratory therapy are now in affect to assist the patient in opening the airway. The author...

...Perspective on Health Care Nicole Asta HCS/212 January 14, 2013 Patricia Wolcott Perspective on Health Care I’ll be honest the main reason I got interested in healthcare was because I have been obsessed with ER all my life. George Clooney was my dream doctor, and he still is today. But as I grew older and relised that my day dreams may never come true, I still remained interested in healthcare. However, I did make the critical reaslation that I detest blood and anything to do with it. However, I still enjoy learning and working in the healthcare field, on the technological side. I how that when I achieve my degree that I will be able to work some day in the CDC. In that regards, what I have always found most interesting, in the history of health care, is the development of the vaccinations and other for diseases. I also am interested in programs like the Center for the Control of Disease and Prevention (CDC) which was founded in 1946. As well as hospice programs, I am currently volunteering at a local hospice and enjoy it very much. As for the vaccinations, what interested was a long term interest in personal health. I have always been a rather healthy person, and rarely ever do I get sick. So when I did, I always wanted to know why I was sick. I read quite a bit about different illness and what was being done to prevent them. I would always read about the early 19th and 20th centuries. About, how many people died from contaminated water and food, inadequate living...

...Explain two theories of ageing- Discuss two major theories of ageing in relation to the development of the individual. Sawda Mahamoud Cumming and Henry were sociologists, who formed the disengagement theory. They strongly believed that the older people get the more they tend to depart from society and become more independent and less worried about others. However there are many risks which are linked with disengagement, this includes depression and seclusion. After the loss of his partner, John would have started to distance himself more from his loved ones and from society. He would have become less worried about his physical appearance, for example less exercise, which would have caused more health problems. Disengagement from society would have meant that John was no longer, up to date with society’s news causing him to be less knowledgably about his surroundings. This could have caused him to feel excluded from society and more depressed. John’s emotional development could be affected by the idea of losing loved ones; this could result in less social interaction leading to him feeling very secluded and alone. John’s emotional development could also cause him to feel a range of different emotions; however they could all end up developing into depression. An example, of John becoming socially disengaged is not spending time with his friends at the park or going to the pub, instead he decides to stay in his bed isolated. The idea that the elderly should stay social and...

...Important Attributes Of Quality Health Care: Consumer Perspectives - Brief Article IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE: CONSUMER PERSPECTIVES M H Oermann, T Templine Journal of Nursing Scholarship Vol 32 no 2 (1998) 167-172 Personnel at contemporary health care agencies are identifying patient outcomes to evaluate services and patient care. This research focuses on consumer perspectives of high quality health care. Consumer perspectives or expectations have been found to be based on demographic characteristics, health care experiences, and specific concerns related to consumers' unique health problems. Further, patients evaluate their experiences by comparing their expectations to actual events. Satisfaction occurs when events match expectations. The purpose of this research was to allow consumers to identify important attributes of quality health and nursing care and to examine the relationship of consumer perspectives to health status and selected demographic variables. Method and sample. This exploratory study examined a convenience sample of 239 health care consumers, of which 50% were recruited from homes in neighborhoods of a large metropolitan area (ie, urban and suburban) in the Midwest, and 50% were recruited from waiting rooms of clinics in the same neighborhoods. These participants included 149 women (63.1%) and 87 men (36.9%). These gender totals equal 236, whereas previously stated the sample size was 239. This discrepancy was not addressed in the article...

...Running Head: HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE 1 Historical Perspective Joyce Lawson Professor Dr. Phillip R. Neely, Jr. PAD 510 Introduction to Public Policy Analysis July 21, 2013 Running Head: HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE 2 Historical Perspective Discuss the historical perspective of the time when each policy was discussed or implemented. What was the context of the problem of the day and the urgency for the policy? The Policies Recent American health care and foreign policies were discussed over a span of two different administrations. President Bill Clinton began addressing the gaping problems in the health care system in 1993 and President Barack Obama continued to seek national health solutions in 2009. President G.H. Bush was considered adept at crafting strong foreign policies. George W. Bush experienced the same sentiment until close to the end of his presidency. Historical perspective of the health care policies President Clinton’s health care policy, also known as the Health Security Act was designed by a task force chaired by his wife Hilary Rodham Clinton Health care reform had been a staple of Clinton’s presidential campaign and he fully intended to deliver on his promise with a package palatable to both parties and to the public. ...Unit 8 M2 and D1 M2- compare two approaches to health and social care. Chose two different approaches and compare each theory to a health care setting and also a social care setting explain how it works in health care compared to social care. Example of behaviourist in health and social care – classical conditioning can be used in a hospital to help with an individuals fear by creating a hierarchy of fears starting with their least fear to the most feared. Whereas in a social care setting such as a school or nursery a teacher can classical condition children into tidying up by using an instrument. However Operant condition may not work as efficiently due to an individual having a behavioural condition such as ADHD Example of social learning in health and social care- using role models in health and social care can help to influence an individuals behaviour such as in a health centre a celebrity can talk about health conditions and because they have a high status the public would be more influenced whereas in a school a individual would be able to use local initiatives such as change for life along with getting a celebrity chief in to talk about the importance of healthy eating. Example of Psychodynamic in social care- A teacher would be able to see that an individuals ID is controlling their behaviour. They would then go and talk to the child’s parents that their child’s ID (unconscious) controls the individuals challenging behaviour. They would then set...

This unit aims to explain the reasons people do the things they do when it comes to health and wellbeing. The mind and the body are interlinked, e.g. stress caused by daily hassles or lifestyle can have a detrimental effect on the body’s immune system and can lead to serious illness. Psychologists have given us many ways to explain human behaviour and this unit is designed to enable learners to apply what they have learnt to their own practice; from helping people overcome emotional problems to dealing with challenging behaviours. The knowledge and understanding gained throughout the unit will benefit all those who work with others, be it people who use services, their friends and family, and other professionals. A wide range of perspectives is covered which can then be applied to many different health and social care settings. The behaviourists and social learning theorists can help to explain how health related behaviours are learnt as well as ways to teach new behaviours to people who use services. The humanists, on the other hand, provide us with a set of guidelines for working with...

...Health care provider and faith diversity Diana Nguyen Grand Canyon University HLT-310V Spirituality in Health Care Andre Mooney May 11, 2013 Health care provider and faith diversity Abstract: Spiritual healing is defined as the practice of laying on of hand or of distant healing ((Brown, 1998, p. 171). Spiritual healing is a term known to many. However, it means different things and affects different ways to different people depending on their religion backgrounds and beliefs. Within three diverse faiths that are less well-known than the mainstream faith such as Shintoism, Buddhism, and Baha'i, the author will compare the philosophy of providing care from the perspective of each of these three faiths with that of the Christian perspective and the author own personal perspective. Shintoism Shintoism is the religious beliefs and practices of Japan. According to Shouler, Shinto is an optimistic faith in believing that all humans are fundamentally good and evil is caused by evil spirits. It is a form of animism and involves the worship of kami which mean “sacred spirit”. Shinto is created by combining two works: “Shin” means God or spirit and “to” means way or path. Shinto beliefs are in the mysterious creating and harmonizing power of kami and in the truthful way of kami. The kami began as the mysterious forces of nature associated primarily with permanent features in the landscape, such as unusual mountains, rocky cliffs, caves, springs, trees and stones("Shinto...

...Health care quality is essential when it comes to providing care. Health care quality is defined as "the degree to which health services for individuals or populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and consistent with current professional knowledge" (McConnell, 2012 p. 26). However, a patient's perspective about the quality of care is vital. A patient's view about the quality of care includes a clear understanding of their treatment, relief of symptoms, access to health care, the appropriate treatment, exceptional communication, responsiveness and empathy, how to improve their health status, and the prevention of medical injury. These are important factors that may help reduce medical errors and improve quality. According to studies, when it comes to safety and risk of medical errors, "the U.S. indicates a significant level of awareness of safety issues among the general population" (Vincent & Coulter, 2002)....
