In today’s United States, one of the most prevalent and heated debates is on guns. There have been several shootings as of late which have drawn an extensive amount of attention to the topic. This has, however, drawn the public eye from other important issues. One of these neglected issues is depicted in the above advertisement. When first viewing it, the eye passes over it, seeing the shape of a gun. After all, the rather dramatic lighting lends to this conclusion. Then one’s eyes are drawn back to the object. The brain finally realizes that it is a set of car keys, not a gun. The message underneath then reads: “Takes one life every 25 seconds,” and underneath it, “Drive safe.” This poster was made by the Frontier Post. This newspaper was founded by Rehmat Shah Afridi in 1985 in the Country of Pakistan (English). This image has been widespread throughout the internet, reaching different social medias and other online news articles. The Frontier Post created the advertisement as a campaign to promote awareness of the risk of driving a car and to plead for drivers to practice safe actions and driving habits. This advertisement uses a fact to provide a reason to hold these newfound emotions. “Takes one life every 25 seconds” is a sobering and thought-provoking statement. According to CDC, 32,000 of the 1.3 million deaths caused by car accidents occur in the U.S. Such common loss of life to something that is trivial and commonplace as driving a car can be shocking. This fact incites the viewer, through thought and emotion, to follow the poster's recommendation to “Drive safely.” One does not want, within reason, to harm himself or his passengers whenever he is responsible to drive. Also, one does not generally want to hurt others outside of his car. Human nature leads us to protect, not damage human

...and Lauren). Would schools be safer if the professors or teachers carried a hand gun? Yes they would. School shooting are happening more and more. Just in the last couple of weeks there have been about three shooting at colleges where people were injured or killed. Some parents from a school in Texas think it is a bad idea because they said “the teachers are trained to teach our children not carry a gun” (Gainesville SunAug 26 2008), but others said that they felt that their children were safe with their teachers carrying a fire arm (Gainesville SunAug 26 2008). In cases like the Sandy Hook shooting, if the teachers in those class rooms would have had a gun to protect the students and themselves, then there might have been less deaths. The teachers that carry the weapons should be psych tested every six months so that authorities can know if they will endanger the children....

Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

...When a citizen wants to buy a gun in the United States, he must pass a background check. When he passes through airport security, he gives up his right to travel freely for the safety of the group. Even while driving for work everybody gives up the right to travel freely. While he may not realize it, the average man is willing to give up some of his freedom to protect himself from everyday dangers. All the time we give up simple rights due to laws put in place to protect the general public. Everyone is restricted by the law, therefore everyone is safer. In the United States, gun control restricts the buyers, which theoretically leads to the prevention of dangerous people owning guns. When anyone wants to buy a gun, the seller is required to run a background check on them. The check searches for any previous criminal record, and the seller will typically determine whether or not to sell to the person based on the check. This is meant to prevent dangerous criminals from owning firearms, which prevents shooting and gun-related deaths. In order to get a hunting license, one must take a certified hunter-safety...

...Arming Teachers Throughout the recent years gun violence has been on the rise, particularly gun violence on school campuses. Unfortunately, within the recent years to present day, there has been an increase of shooting at colleges, high schools, and even elementary schools. Teachers’ unarmed in these dangerous situations causes a lot more deaths among students and teachers themselves. Little is being done to counteract these dangerous situations, guns should be in the hands of the teachers. If some teachers decide to OPT OUT of carrying a gun, then that teacher class should be in proximity of another teacher that is carrying a gun. Teachers that carry guns on school property should go through the proper training of shooting a gun properly, this would prevent less deaths in schools and save more lives. Persuasive Essay On Guns Age

...Age to buy guns Gun deaths are a very big deal in America. They need to be lowered and we all know that. That is why I think that the age to buy guns should NOT be lowered to 18. That is because firearms are very dangerous, 21 year olds are more mature and they are more responsible, and the death rates in America will lower. If the age restriction to buy guns stays at 21, then the death rates will lower. According to USA Gun Violence statistics, there are more than 30,000 people killed by firearms in America every year. That is a lot of people that are killed by guns that could lower if there is a better age restriction on firearms. Also, homicide is the second leading cause of deaths among 15-24 year olds. That is a lot of teens dying....

Persuasive Essay On Gun Bill

...Republicans are eager to shut down this Colorado gun bill. Here’s why their dream could backfire big time. Will police support of the red flag bill in Colorado increase the odds of it passing? Maybe, but Republican leaders won’t approach the topic. Assistant minority house leader Cole Wist, among others, is wanted by liberals to stop talking about taking guns and changing gun laws in Colorado. Conservatives fear that any threats to change gun laws will boost strict gun regulations later down the road - not with Democrats, as some hope, but with Republicans. It's a subject that has become increasingly heated among citizens and the government a like. One problem solver that is discussed by some americans is gun control, but gun control is not the best solution to stop these tragic incidents from happening. There are many people in the united States that have guns and, taking guns away will frighten millions. There will still be illegal guns in the hand of criminals. Instead we should fix the background check system that provides guns to people that should not have them. Guns are here to stay, and will probably never go away. Burrus from...

...illnesses and some say it is because of gun control. These violent acts would have never happened if there wasn’t a gun involved. Guns are dangerously powerful weapons of mass destruction that take lives. Lives are not something you can get back, once your dead your dead and that’s why America need gun control. The lives taken everyday by that act of gun violence are hideous. School shootings are becoming more and more common today. School shootings are horrible and shouldn’t be happening. School shootings would not be happening if there wasn’t a gun involved. According to German Lopez, who wrote the article “I’ve covered gun violence for years. The solutions aren’t a big mystery.” “The US makes up less that 5% of the world’s population, but hold 31% of global mass shooters”. That is unacceptable and inconsolable, such a small portion of the world shouldn’t hold that high of a percentage of global mass shootings. Lopez also states, “The Marjory...

Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence

...is incapable of understanding gun control as incremental regulation to increase public safety but rather, frames it instead as the eventual and absolute revocation of gun rights. Any reasonable suggestion to reduce gun violence such as requiring guns, which are after all lethal weapons, be kept secure is tantamount to gun seizure. It is inaccurate and is intended to incite fear and prevent rational discussion. Chris Christie, Donald Trump and gun advocates are wrong when they claim that increased guns laws result in increased gun violence and then point to Chicago. The problem with using Chicago as an example is that Chicago is not some discrete, hermetically sealed entity. It is a large, porous city surrounded by localities and states that have little or no restrictions on gun purchases. Most of the guns used in crimes in Chicago are purchased outside of Chicago in Cook County or in other states such as Indiana and Mississippi. The Harvard School of Public Health, unlike Christie, Trump, el al, has come to the...

There has been a lot of shootings this year and yet some people are saying that the people that are on the terrorist watch list should be able to but guns. To me that is just asking for shooting like the one that happened in San Bernardino. The shooters killed twenty and injured fourteen. Most the people that they killed were mentally handicapped. I don’t see why anybody would want to hurt someone that is mentally handicapped cause they have no way of fighting back. This is why we need to keep an eye on social media cause the two that were in the San Bernardino were saying stuff to the leader of ISIS. This is why we need to stop letting people buy guns that are on the terrorist watch list...

...The right to own a firearm has been in the backbone of American society almost since the beginning of the country itself. Yet, as a country we stand divided on the issue of gun ownership. Guns have been used for hunting and protection since the time of the American colonies. There were laws that required at least one male to carry a gun to church and other public meetings. This was an attempt to stop any robberies from other minorities such as Native Americans, and slaves. The constitution was solidified in 1791 where it says it is “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”. In the past we have forbidden the sale of guns to Native Americans, indentured Irish servants, and slaves. However, we allowed certain professions such as doctors,...

College campuses are supposed to be heartwarming, comfortable, and safe. Allowing firearms on campus is not a good idea; there have been many cases on gun shooting occurring on campuses. Gun Control Persuasive Essay

...In the United States, gun control should be enforced because it will decrease suicide deaths. According to Jacob Sullum, ¨Limiting access to guns makes each attempt more likely to fail, thus making it more likely that people will survive and not attempt to harm themselves again¨ (Jacob Sullum). Sullum proves that by keeping guns a difficult item to get, the less suicide attempts there would be. Suicide can only be done once, a bullet can kill you only once. By committing suicide with a gun, everything will happen all at once and effectively. Those who want to take their life away would have an easier time using a gun than using pills or a razor. Gun control will prevent people from being able to purchase a firearm and make it harder for them...
