According, to news report at least 17 people met their death at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Nikolas Cruz 19-year-old boy. The accused shooter expelled without specific reason according to the disciplinary (Christensen). The shooting caused debates about which could sound like the cause of the steeply rising mass killings in the USA. Most politicians and citizens want to tie the mass killings to people with a mental crisis. Although other large countries such as India and Europe, share the same figures of mentally unstable people but have very low incidents of school-shooting. The increasing rate of shootings has led to most Americans heading back to the drawing board on the regulation of gun control and gun rights in the country. Since the issues have occurred there has been more focus on why shooting is happening more frequently. Many people have started fearing the fact they could lose loved ones in a school shooting.

Parents, politicians, teachers and even religious leaders have been on several occasions spotted preaching the gospel while drinking wines. Muschert talks about children who have lost faith in the existing authority, react to their emotions without considering if their actions are right or wrong (72). Newman and Cybelle claim the current society is morally bankrupt as parents have no time to educate their children on what’s is ethically acceptable and unacceptable (1298). Their have been countless school shootings in the past few years that have broken apart families and devastated towns and cities. Because of the recent school shootings police should be present at schools, police should carry guns with them around school, and tough measures should be taken. First, police should be present at schools. Police should be at schools because if they are not there who is there to protect them from a shooter. The article Stronger security measures will make schools safer, by Juvenile Crime, says “Recent shifts in school violence are driving administrators in even the safest of schools and communities to realize that ,it could happen here (Crime).” This means that people are starting to realize that school shootings can happen at any school at any time. Persuasive Essay On School Shootings

...As stated on thinkprogress.org, ABC News reported thirty-one school shootings in the United States since Columbine in 1999, where thirteen innocent people were massacred. Allowing professionally trained security guards to possess the right to carry firearms will drastically reduce the amount of deaths in similar situations, including those of children and teenagers. With the use of their firearms, security guards have a higher probability of being able to offer protection for the students and faculty. Although many opposers argue that the current precautions (such as cameras and alert systems) are enough to protect students across the nation, these tactics will only offer the student awareness instead of safety, which will result in them being...

...about 23 school shooting in 2018 alone. That is a huge problem. There are several ways that we can prevent more from happening. I am going to contact my local Representive John Moolenaar on https://moolenaar.house.gov/ . Certain teachers in schools could carry a concealed gun. School campuses should have police officers. In addition, all entrances should be secured and have metal detectors. I believe that certain teachers should carry a gun. 172 school districts in Texas allow staff and/or board members to carry firearms on school premises (Beatriz.1). And out of the 172 school’s districts there has been no school shootings. If the schools where the shootings has occurred, if the teachers would have had guns there would have...

Persuasive Essay On School Shootings

...School shootings are rare, yet every time one occurs, it reveals the disturbing vulnerability of schools and universities to acts of violence. These shootings not only make the parents feel unsafe sending their children off to school but also causes political debate. This topic has ignited a dispute over gun violence, zero tolerance policies, and gun control. The Controversial topic has created a main attention grabber for satirists. A satirist is a writer who uses politics or everyday issues and writes about them in a jokingly way. There are two ways a Satirist can write, Horation and juvanalian. Horation is more humorous and juvanalian abrasive. In this essay, the examples I have provided are all Horation. Bolton, Reiss, And Schormal use the ample tools of exaggeration and mockery; However, Borowitz and Luckavich use more of the parody and pathos types of elements to address the problems of school shootings across America. First, Satirist Cole Bolton discusses the topic of school shootings using exaggeration. Exaggeration is an assertion that makes something...

Persuasive Essay On School Shootings

...Since 1980 there have been 137 fatal school shootings and 297 lives were lost to these unnecessary acts of violence. In the United States, the threat of school shootings has been an increasing danger to students and teachers alike. Even on July 26, 1764, four Lenape American Indians came into a school and killed the schoolmaster and nine or ten children, this is known as the Enoch Brown school massacre and was a notorious part of Pontiac’s rebellion. The more recent shootings such as Columbine and Virginia Tech a majority of those victims were students. Many of the victims cannot rely on police in the beginning of these attacks, the average shooting lasts around 12 minutes but average police response time is 18 Minutes. Teachers should be able to carry concealed weapons because armed teachers and staff can decrease the threats of school shootings, intruders on campus, and respond to threats faster than the time it takes police officers to respond. The police are effective in handling these threats but the response time can take too long, with school staff members armed with concealed weapons they can stabilize the situation before the police arrive. Carrying a concealed weapons could escalate the confrontation and...

Judicial System and Juveniles

...Persuasive Essay The young people in the United States of America are motivated to do bad things like robbing, killing, drug dealing and other felonies. These minors commit serious crimes, but the law is soft with them. So they continue in the streets robbing and killing because they know that nothing will happen to them because, simply put, they are minors. I think if a minor kills a human being they should be killed as well, regardless of age. As a minor you should know it’s wrong to take another life. There was one crime in particular that caught my eye and I believe it was called the Pearl High School shooting in Pearl, Mississippi. Sixteen year old Luke Woodham woke up on October 1st, 1997 and stabbed his mother to death as she peacefully slept in her bed. After stabbing her, he drove his dead mom’s car to school, walked in the front door of the school, and opened fire. After a couple minutes of shooting he got back into his moms van and tried driving off. The school principal had a gun in his car so he retrieved it and somehow stopped Luke. He asked Luke why he shot his kids and Luke replied “Life has wronged me, sir.” A couple minutes before the shooting started he gave this message to a friend "I am not insane, I am angry. I killed because people like me are mistreated every day. I did this to show society, push us and we will push back. All throughout my life, I was ridiculed, always beaten, always hated. Can you, society, truly blame me for what I do? Yes, you...

Relationship Between Critical Thinking and Ethics

...Relationship between Critical Thinking and Ethics Cheryl B. Green Gen/201 December 7, 2015 Portia Dennis Introduction Critical Thinking According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, critical thinking is the act of using your mind to produce ideas or careful judgements. If we use this definition anytime we are producing ideas or judgements we are utilizing critical thinking. When using critical thinking we are mentally going through steps in our head to achieve our desired outcomes. The skills we use for critical thinking are observation, interpretation, analyzing, inference, evaluation, explanation and metacognition(Boyd, p85). My daughter is turning 5 in two weeks but she has been a very willful child since she could speak.  We wake for school every day at the same time, and I observe her mood from the time she opens her eyes. I watch to see if she has gotten enough sleep, if she is grumpy or if she hops straight out of bed. The wheels in my head begin turning and I have to interpret her language into mine so that I don't miss any of the clues she is sending me.  Once I have figured out her mood I need to analyze how I'm going to handle her.  Her moods are very tricky. I suggest a particular outfit for her to wear.  Most days she doesn't like what I pick out for her to wear because she feels that she is old enough to make her own decisions when it comes to wardrobe. Usually, she picks what I have laid out for her and throws it on the floor.  Now we move into inference. She...

Ethos And Pathos In Aristotle's Rhetoric

...after, a stranger to Rob and Dan walked by the same picture and proclaimed “Political government gridlock sure is strangling the nation to death.” As my story above has demonstrated, art can be interpreted and viewed in many different ways, depending on who is examining the artwork. Many observers of art, like Dan and Rob, debate the meaning that it portrays based on their own perspectives and frames of mind. When it comes to the art of rhetoric, many scholars in the field of persuasive speaking debate on which model for persuasion is most effective in modern day society. Aristotle’s Rhetoric is the most commonly found and taught version of persuasive speaking (Griffin et al., 2015). However, his work has come under scrutiny from those who don’t appreciate the broad and ironically ambiguous definitions and concepts that Aristotle provides. These unshakable critics are looking for scientific-based evidence within an art to devise a systematic approach for the method of persuasion. Provided in this essay is an overview of Aristotle’s Rhetoric as well as the history of the art of rhetoric itself. I have also examined two different case studies involving the application of Aristotle’s appeals to ethos (creditability), logos (logic), and pathos (emotion) in two different career fields. I evaluated these two studies as well as Aristotle’s Rhetoric as a whole in order to provide a better understanding of the theory. The reader is provided with a more artistic approach to Aristotle’s...

Violent Video Games

...Research/Persuasive Essay Violent Video Games “Children on Murder Simulators:” Violent Video Games as Practice for Real Life A very controversial issue in today’s world is violent video games. Do they have an affect on adolescents? Do they influence their actions and thoughts? Over the past couple of years there have been cases of school shootings. In particular the Columbine High School Shooting and Virginia Tech Massacre were both influenced by violent video games. In the Columbine High School shooting, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot and killed thirteen people and then killed themselves. At Virginia Tech, Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed thirty-three people, including himself, and injured twenty-three others (School 1). Violent video games played a major role in these school shootings because the games were tools used to practice there plan and give them the ideas for the weapons they would use and how they would use them. Harris and Klebold attended Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. When the two teens had planned the attack it was intended for propane tanks to detonate that they left in the cafeteria in duffle bags. “According to the report released by the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office, the tanks contained sufficient explosives power to ‘kill the majority of students’ who would be in the cafeteria for lunch” (Columbine 1). The tanks did not discharge as the boys anticipated. When...

Rhetorical Analysis

...Jason Francis Herbert Pimlott Rhetorical Analysis November 13, 2012 This essay argues that the Globe and Mail (G&M) article, ‘Don’t Teach Until You See the Whites of Their Eyes’ (18 August 2012), is persuasive with its primary target audience of G&M readers. Clifford Orwin, the author of this article, is a professor of political science at the University of Toronto. Furthermore, the main focus of this article deals with the fact that: “Real education requires real teachers and students, not disembodied electronic wraiths.” Through the rhetorical analysis of this editorial, this paper will demonstrate that its persuasiveness can be attributed to four key aspects: through an emphasis on the use of deliberative stasis; its use of ethos and logos; and through its effective use of rhetorical imagery. Before the case can be made for understanding how and why this article is persuasive, we need to begin with setting the context of the issue or exigence to which the article was responding and whether that response was timely and appropriate. To understand the exigence of this article, the interpretation of Orwin’s implied audience is necessary to grasp how the two concepts within exigence, kairos and phronesis, both link text, context and audience together. Through an extensive analysis of the assumptions made by Orwin, the implied audience consists predominantly of instructors. Moreover, Orwin’s motto: “Don’t teach until you see the whites of their eyes.” Also used as...

Paul Bloom's Essay 'The Baby In The Well'

...America is an empathy-driven society. American politicians, pastors and psychologists consistently preach the importance of empathy in creating a fair society for everyone. In “ The Baby in The Well,” an essay for the May 20, 2013 issue of The New Yorker, Canadian American Psychologist Paul Bloom makes a shocking case against empathy. He begins making his case by defining empathy, and admitting its conventional wisdom. Bloom then presents numerous situations in which empathy can mislead or has misled us. Finally, he wraps up his argument by asserting that while empathy will drive us to empathize only with someone we identify with, reasoning will ensure that we make the right decisions for the better of society and the world. Bloom achieves...
