...PESTLE ANALYSIS NOKIA ID NO.: B0039FSFS1112 Political factors All businesses that are tax paying have to abide by the laws of the government. Nokia is a major multi-national corporation that is commonly known for its mobile telephones. This multi-million dollar company has its operations spread out across many countries in the world. Due to its mass span of operation Nokia is forced to accept the rules/legislations of different markets in different countries. If Nokia is able to have a good affiliation with the government and operate successfully with the law put up by the government they will be able to gain full advantage. So if Nokia would want to operate to its maximum capacity and gain higher market share it will have to thoroughly inspect legislations put up by government and also predict legislations before they are placed so that they are flexible enough to take early precautions. Economic factors Economic factors are factors that will hugely impact a company’s performance. If Nokia is to thrive & survive it will have to study current economic states, Nokia will have to know if the economy is in a ‘recession’ or ‘boom’. Currently the EU’s economy is in chaos unemployment is high, companies are downsizing and salaries are being cut, as a result this will hugely impact businesses. In a recession people won’t have money to spend on luxury items due to tight budgets laid out by governments when this happens businesses (Nokia) will have to overlook their strategies...

...truly understand and analyse whether innovative thinking is being constrained by strategic planning systems, it is essential to understand which strategic planning systems are being used, whether their implementation limits the allowance to new and different approaches to organisations, and whether companies in real-life are being affected by this constraint. Before analysing whether innovative thinking is oppressed by strategic planning systems, it is important to define what a strategic planning system is. According to the BNET Business Dictionary (2007), strategic analysis is ‘…the process of conducting research on the business environment within which an organisation operates and on the organisation itself, in order to formulate strategy’. ...Analysis of Competition in the Mobile Phone Markets of the United States and Europe International Business Master's thesis Mika Husso 2011 Department of Management and International Business Aalto University School of Economics AALTO UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS Department of Management and International business Master’s thesis ABSTRACT ANALYSIS OF COMPETITION IN THE MOBILE PHONE MARKETS OF THE UNITED STATES AND EUROPE Competition in an economic context is a widely studied phenomenon with a significant body of accumulated research and theory. However, competition in the mobile phone industry, despite its prevalence in public discussion, has received significantly less attention in academic research. Within the international business (IB) context there are very few academic studies that seek to analyze and compare the different geographical mobile phone markets from the viewpoint of competition. This thesis examines competition in the mobile phone markets of the United States and Europe in light of interviews and secondary data covering years 2002 - 2011. The framework used for the analysis is founded on concepts drawn primarily from industrial organization (IO) economics, IB theory and microeconomics. The first part of the thesis gives an overview of the U.S. and European mobile phone markets and the second part focuses specifically on Nokia, its actions and performance on the U.S. market. The findings reveal that the U.S. and European mobile phone...
