...People for ethical treatment of animals (PETA) is a large organization with the goal of ending animal cruelty and promoting animal rights. There mission statement is: “PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.”(peta) Though PETA seem like an organization that does great things, they go about getting what they want in a deplorable way. “PETA resorts to soft porno-graphic female nudity and graphic video recordings of animal abuse, it instills feelings of ‘shock’ on the target audience in order to get its point across.” (Matusitz, J. and Forrester, M. 85-86) The term for this king of advertising is shock advertising. “Shock advertising that startles and offends its audience has become a popular tool in advertising, especially since the 1980s.”(Pflaumbaum 1). PETA using shock advertising and pornographic themes is an ineffective and deplorable way to achieve the organization’s goals, which hurts the cause rather than helps. PETA has done a good deal of good things.PETA’s website has a timeline of there major milestones and accomplishments. In 2008 PETA pursued a lawsuit against Aviagen Turkeys which is a major producer of turkeys worldwide...

...that the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) focuses on is the four areas in which the largest number of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time which are on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. PETA also works on other issues such as the killing of beavers, birds and other pests as well as the cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation and many others. I don’t believe that PETA favors one political party more than the other. PETA is a neutral interest group its belief is in a global society. Exotic ‘Pets’ Spared Abandonment In this article the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission agency gave reprieve to individuals in possession of exotic animals forbidden under Florida law and agreed to take in the animals and place them in facilities equipped to care for them. The reason this agency took the exotic animals in is because they did not want individuals that owned exotic animals to let the animals go back into the wildlife after they have been taught and integrated to the domestic life. PETA Attacks Mario for Wearing Tanooki Fur In this article it talks about how the video game star Mario is back in action with the release of Super Mario 3D Land on November 13, 2011. PETA is attacking Mario for wearing fur (the Tanooki Suit). PETA believes that although it may just be a videogame...

...The most recent incident caused by PETA is a case in which a three-year-old’s dog who was given as a Christmas gift was taken from their porch and euthanized by the non-profit animal rights organization. In October 18, 2014, surveillance footage shows two children luring the family’s chihuahua, Maya, from their porch. When they fail, two affiliates of PETA, Jennifer Woods and Victoria Carey, one on lookout while the other snatches the dog completes their intended task successfully. Maya was put down the day she was caught which violated Virginia’s state laws that requires a five-day grace period. Wilber Zarate and his daughter, Cynthia each sued PETA for $2 mil and asked for $5 mil in punitive damages as well as sueing both workers, each for $350,000. PETA released a statement that said Maya had been accidentally taken as part of a roundup of stray and unwanted animals in the area, that her killing was “extremely upsetting” and “a tragic mistake.” Four months later, after Maya had been killed, PETA’s senior vice president Daphna Nachminovitch, said that Carey mistook Maya for another chihuahua. In the suit, Zarate said that Carey had met Maya during one of her visits and promised that she would get vaccinated, adding that she never did. The organization paid the family approx. $49,000....

...How legit is PETA? They claim to be this ethical organization with the largest animal rights organization in the world. I have always thought Peta was a genuine organization, yet animal lover Heather Harper can beg to differ in a story I recall reading my junior year of high-school. Harper had been an ex employee for fifteen years before speaking out about the organization in the article titled “WHISTLEBLOWER: PETA Ex-Employee Alleges She Was Encouraged to Steal and Kill Pets, and to Falsify info”. In the article she alleges that she was encouraged by PETA president, Ingrid Newkirk, to steal and kill pets, and to falsify the records. Sad stories such as this one make me want to learn what else PETA could be hiding behind closed doors. As I was researching the organization my thoughts began to shift regarding the accuracy off their investigations....

...world would be like without Agriculture? Without using animals for humans needs such as leather? Without meat? This includes beef, ham, pork, sausage, chicken, ect… PETA is a strong believer in this. PETA Think about there being no Whataburger, no In-and-Out, no Wendy’s, no Braums, no Dairy queen… anyways you get the point. PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The way PETA presents its information to the public is cruel and unusual. A group founded in 1980 with over 800,000 current members worldwide. They are the most successful registered radical organization in existence. Similar to the Nazi party, and religious extremists, they believe in fascism and use violence and propaganda as their vehicles to achieve their...

...Source characteristics are particularly important in instances such as advertising. For example, when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) promoters want to convince people to refrain from hurting animals, they may use a politician, celebrity, or someone revered by the public to speak on PETA’s behalf because those types of people have certain source characteristics that make PETA’s argument more convincing. A couple of source characteristics include attractiveness and credibility. In the instance of the “Angelina Jolie effect,” Jolie has both of these characteristics that help persuade others to follow in her footsteps and get genetic screening for breast cancer. Women typically view Jolie as a beautiful and attractive woman, adding to the convincingness of the benefits of screening. Also, Jolie has credibility. Credibility not only comes from her celebrity status, but also...

...in front of the main headquarters of Procter & Gamble. If you squint, you can see they’re holding signs, but the only text you can make out is the word “PETA” in big letters across the bottom. “Just great,” you think to yourself. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the animal-rights group more commonly know by the acronym PETA, raises more than $25 million a year from its 1.6 million members and supporters. PETA not only campaigns for animal rights but also funds less known animal-rights groups to engage in activism. PETA is extremely adept at organizing public campaigns and mobilizing the public to boycott companies. Its public-relations tactics include celebrity endorsements, traveling displays of animal abuse, and creative on-site demonstrations. Even large international companies like McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC have bowed to pressure from PETA. In response to aggressive campaigns, all three have issued strict humane animal handling guidelines to suppliers of beef, pork, and chicken and enforce those standards with unannounced audits of production farms and processing plants. PETA has been known to use pretty crude tactics. In one instance, a viral ad featuring scantily clad women with cow udders instead of breasts was distributed in the UK as part of a campaign against milk drinking and production. PETA had hoped to air a television version of the ad on the ABC network in the United States during the Super Bowl, but was told the execution “falls outside...

...The Humane Society After mentioning the 2 different types of cruelty that is happening right now, it is time to talk about 2 organizations that are currently helping the animals in danger. The 2 organizations that I will write about are the Humane Society and PETA. First, I will write about the Humane Society and how they are helping animals from cruelty. The Humane Society of the U.S. is the nation’s largest and most effective animal protection organization with 11 million members and constituents (HSUS). This organization was founded in 1954 by Fred Myers, Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, and Marcia Glaser. The original name of the HSUS was the National Humane Society. The Humane Society and their affiliates provide direct care to more than 100,000...

To start off, a main reason why people do not use dairy products is because of how the dairy industry works. ...world that we share our world with. I will be going over some of these ideas and also be talking about some the groups associated with these ideas. The issue of animal rights is a very complex and touchy subject. There are both positive and negative sides to the animal rights issue. Both sides of which seem to have major contradictions to both themselves and to each other. Animal rights people have proposed that in the basic interest of the animals such things as avoidance of suffering should be given the same attention that it would be given to any human being. One such animal rights organization that believes this is PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA is known as the largest animal rights organization in the world (PETA, 2012). PETA was founded back in 1980 as a nonprofit organization by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco (PETA, 2012). PETA may have some of the right ideas when it comes to the fact that animals should have rights of their own. Animals should not and do not need to be made to suffer needlessly....

...1.I would have to support PETA on this because there are so many ways that KFC and its other chains can stay as successful as they are and treat chickens in a humane matter. I am a vegetarian for many reasons. It’s my life style that I have obtained because I hate the texture of meat and can’t stand hearing the awful things this world does to innocent animals. They deserve happy healthy lives just like we do. I couldn’t imagine eating something that is treated so such disgusting ways. Many other fast food restaurants have made this major change, now it’s their turn to follow suit. I think that PETA was being a little harsh to exploit them so intently. They were given a certain amount of time to right their wrong. If they didn’t pull through then PETA could jump down their throats and exploit them like they have. I can see PETA’s reasoning for how they reacted after two years of KFC doing little about the issue. However, I don’t think that what PETA is asking KFC to do is out of their reach. Even though PETAs actions can be over the top, they defiantly get their point across clear and concise. It is only going to better this world. 2. PETA’s basic criticism of KFC is that they are angry with them for supporting hatcheries, feed mills, grow out plants, processing plant and cold storage buildings that handle the chickens in grotesque ways. Yes PETA is convincing. By all their demonstrations and protests they certainly get their point across. The blood is on KFC’s hands due to...

PETA, an organization to serve animal rights and freedom, is making an ethical appeal to persuade the consumer that eating meat is reprehensible. At First, the most eye-catching segment of the advertisement is “Eating Meat is a Sin”, written in the bold green font. ...describe the relationship between PETA and KFC from April 2001, to August, 2003? How did the two organizations communicate with one another? What specific messages were exchanged? The relationship between the two groups deteriorated significantly between April 2001 and August 2003. At first, KFC was cooperation (or stating that they would cooperate) with PETA and noting that the concerns of PETA would be addressed timely or at least considered. Once KFC was give a the list of concerns they closed the communication channels and PETA, being left in the dark regarding progress, went about their usual shock tactics for garnering KFC’s and the public’s attention. The communications were handled via e-mail and phone, eventually developing into a promise for face-to face communications. Unfortunately, this may have been a ploy by KFC to “buy time” or at least let the heat die down from the backlash of a negative media report. The communication was cordial and polite, however, the responses began to take longer and longer to be received by PETA and they grew concerned that action would not be taken by KFC. The communications began to deteriorate and PETA began to use harsher methods of indirect communication with KFC to get their attention. By leaking details to the press and handing out shock items, they were hoping to back KFC into a wall where they would have to respond immediately. The messages that were sent by KFC were messages intended to keep PETA believing that they were actually...
