4. Peter Schock (At 42 years old): Peter—tall, well dressed, and handsome—is a very determined and heroic main character in the book. Needless to say, he is also my favorite character. He is determined in all his endeavors, letting nothing distract him from his goals. This trait was well displayed when he refused to reveal his true identity to his loved ones, so that they can find and save the younger Peter, as opposed to saving a son that is older than his mother. Also, when enticed into returned with his father, he still refused regardless of his intense desire to do the latter. Furthermore, he exhibits significant heroism in the novel. In fact, there are two marvelous examples of this. First of all, he saved a slightly deranged damsel in distress from drowning after she had purposefully jumped to her death. Moreover, he sprinted after his father when he thought that someone shot him. He did so as he used his French-speaking abilities to guide the group to the Château de l’humiere, and used his adept knowledge of French history to tell the King what atrocities would await him if he did not make haste in his retreat. However, Mr. Schock is apt to saying offensive comments without intending to. For example: minutes before he went back in time, Kate made various arguments explaining why she should also go with him, and he responded by noting that she is “quite bossy for a 12-year-old girl.” As a result, Kate became angry and shouted at him that she merely “speak[s her] mind.” In conclusion, Mr Schock is a very good addition to the plot, regardless of his peculiar
