Pharmacy
Studying science is probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life. Three years ago, I would have never thought that I was going to do what I’m doing right now. Before deciding that pharmacy was the career that I was going to pursue, I knew I wanted to invest my money and time on studies that later on would give me the opportunity and knowledge to help people. Most people think that pharmacists just work behind the counter preparing the medication that doctors prescribe to their patients. In fact, the field of pharmacy has different specialties; some of these are retail, clinical, and nuclear. Retail is the common idea that people have of pharmacists. In a retail setting, there are the pharmacy technicians, the pharmacist, and also the manager of the pharmacy. Prescriptions by the doctor are dropped by the client, and the pharmacist is responsible for making the medication and informing the patient about the side effects of the drug. Pharmacists are basically the ones who run the place. They are responsible for providing advice about health issues, symptoms, and medications in response to customer enquiries. They also do the recruiting, training, managing of staff, processing prescriptions, dispensing of medication, attending to meetings with medical representatives, managing of budgets, keeping statistical and financial records, and preparing publicity materials and display. Some pharmacists work in a clinical setting. These have the role of prescribing the patient right after the doctor has determined the diagnosis. They’re also responsible for obtaining the drug medication history of every patient in order to avoid reactions with other drugs. Clinical pharmacists are frequently granted patient care privileges

Pharmacy Personal Statement Essay

...Personal Statement My passion for pharmacy begun when I took a pharmacy-tech class offered in my high school. I was intrigued about the things I learned in the class; I learned about the different type of drugs, its brand names, its function to the human body, how to calculate dosages, and how one can apply them in the pharmacy field. Code of Conduct for Pharmacy Students ; Yay or Nay?

...Pharmacy students, upon entering their institutions, have to abide by a code of conduct usually higher than other students following a different career path. Students specialising in law, marketing or accounting do not have to maintain the high standard of professionalism that pharmacy students have to demonstrate whilst in school. Students have deemed this set of rules unfair and professionals insist that it has to be maintained in order to fully understand the grasp of pharmacy as a profession. Personally, I understand the need to abide by these rules but also agree with other students that is not necessarily fair. The profession, pharmacy, deals with lives. The three most important aspect of pharmacy are quality, safety and efficacy of medicines and these in turn help to save patients’ lives, to improve their health and to manage chronic diseases while at the same time maximising the comfort of the patient. It is important to demonstrate a degree of professionalism for patients to ensure their lives in our care. This level of competence can only be exhibited upon entering the profession if students are taught right from day one. It improves the chances of perfecting skills that have been taught and instilled from college and therefore of providing better services to the patients. As future pharmacists, pharmacy students have to assume the role and learn to behave in an appropriate manner that is respectful to both the profession and colleagues. A pharmacist or even a pharmacy...

Ethical and Legal Issues in Pharamcy

...Ethical and Legal Issues in Pharmacy Name HCA322 Instructor December 16, 2013 Back in the 1990’s, the baby boomer generation stepped into their middle age years. Since it is not uncommon for people to begin having health issues at this age, there became a larger demand for healthcare services, and a huge demand for more prescription medications. The demand that was placed on the pharmaceutical industry brought about an urgent need for the teaching of professional ethics in schools of pharmacy. The measures taken in response to this demand were very necessary as the public now places such high expectations on pharmaceutical professionals, and rightfully so. They have access to both lifesaving and life-ending drugs and they possess knowledge that the common person finds intimidating. Patients feel a sense of vulnerability with all of the aspects involved with the industry that they may not understand such as the electronic transmission of information, electronic records, e-scripts, delivery and the complexity of health interventions, along with legal limitations, the many different medical specializations and the sharp rise in the use of generic pharmaceuticals (Klepser, et. al., 2008) It is possible that a pharmaceutical professional may find themselves in vulnerable positions as well, feeling trapped between their own personal ethics and the liabilities placed on them by their profession. They may find themselves sometime questioning as to whether they can fully uphold...

Within my clinical setting implementation of a pilot scheme is underway with a common vision to work alongside the accompanying community pharmacy for better sharing of knowledge and information to enable optimum care for our mutually registered LTC patients. Completing my degree in computer science and mathematics has given me a strong technical foundation in computer development. For three semesters at [deleted], I had the unique opportunity to teach College Connection courses with a professor.
