He then took the stage as a comedian and even became a leading actor in the television show Atlanta and other onscreen movies. It wasn’t until 2016 when his music career took flight and did well on the music charts. Although he had previous prior albums, the songs listed on Awaken, My Love! were played on a variety of radio stations that features R&B, Rap, and Pop music. During the first week of its release, about 72,000 albums were purchased making it the top of the charts (Mendizabal). After viewing the album cover, it’s no mystery as to why the album of this new artist sold quickly. It has an unsettling image that leaves the consumer wanting more, such as myself. By using a blue color scheme, fear, and symbolism, the cover of Awaken, My Love! is an appropriate reflection of the album’s content. It was early 2017 when the song “Redbone” went viral. This was the first song that gathered a surfeit of attention from Awaken, My Love!. Although it sounded like it was from a different era, fans were particularly in love with its melody accompanied by Gambino’s vocals.
