Why are you interested in joining Phi Delta Epsilon? I am interested in building relationships with other like-minded students who are striving to pursue medicine, who will motivate me both throughout college and the medical school process. I believe that the people within Phi Delta Epsilon will help round out my college experience connecting both the academic and social aspects. In addition, I would like to be part of the group’s alumni network with people who have gone through the process of medical school to network for future involvements such as shadowing. Additionally, Phi Delta Epsilon would give me an avenue to give back to the Ohio community, through the volunteering events.

In order to inspire more young girls in our area to get interested in science and science-related fields, we decided to start an after-school club for elementary students interested in science, technology, engineering and math.Throughout the world and throughout history, science has been a male-dominated field, in which many female accomplishments are not given the credit they rightfully deserve. Despite women being a minority in science-related fields, we thought it was important that more women follow their passion for science.
The corresponding group we participated in, Girls in Science, allowed us to meet with a group of 17 to 20 young girls to teach them about different aspects of science and how women in science have succeeded, despite being discriminated against in the past, while fostering their interest in pursuing
STEM-related jobs by showing presentations and conducting hands-on science experiments. Rather than simply saying that there were not enough women in STEM-related fields, we set out to change this, even if it was in a small way.
