...1 Running Head: Should abortion be legal? Should abortion be legalized or not? BobbieJo Brown PHI103: Informal Logic Profession Erica Veljic July 16, 2012 2 In my personal opinion I am against abortion in all aspects but one. Do you believe that murder is alright? If not then you do not believe in abortion either. A babies heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy, therefore, that makes abortion murder of a child that is less than 5 weeks old. The baby growing inside of you is depending on you, and only you, to bring them into this world. When you make the choice to end that life, you are making the choice to murder another person, who at this point has absolutely no choice in the matter. It’s your responsibility to protect their life. "Abortion is murder". People opposed to abortion strongly believe that abortion takes away the "right to live", and is morally wrong. Though, others for abortion argue that the statement is just a religious belief. Pro-abortionists consider that having an abortion is the women’s’ choice. What makes it judge that abortion is murder? First of all, abortion is the "termination of pregnancy". Stopping the women's pregnancy means to destroy the embryo or of the fetus. To the anti-abortionists, this is the same as slaughtering a baby. They believe that the fetus is a separate human being. To this, pro-abortionists disagree that the fetus is still dependent on the mother until it is actually born. As the...

...Week 5 Assignment PHI103: Informal Logic 29 November, 2012 Are there any legitimate restrictions on gun ownership? Introduction The modern era is heavily dependent on the TV as their chief source of information or news about the rest of the world. Since the nations have simultaneous access to the violent new stories that are exaggerated and sensationalized to generate more and more ratings all over the international television channels, newspapers and even the internet, a lot of people have started thinking whether the U.S. Constitutions’ 2nd Amendment is restrictive enough or not. According to a case in the Supreme Court recently, there was an evaluation of the said Amendment and its context. A question needed answering which were whether there were any legitimate restrictions on gun ownership. According to the ruling of the Supreme Court, other Constitutional Amendments and the dangerous times, there are not many legitimate restrictions in the ownership of firearms. Thesis Statement “There are not a lot of legitimate restrictions in ownership of firearms.” Discussion In the Court case of Heller versus District of Columbia (D.C), there are arguments which cover almost all possible aspects of the 2nd Amendment. From the year 1975, Columbian District has put a ban within the residents of D.C’s homes, on the unlocked firearms’ possession. The residents were required by law to store any and all firearms which were permissible in the Columbian District disassembled...

...Legalize Physician-Assisted Suicide Stacy L. Free Top of Form PHI103: Informal Logic (ACL1248D) Instructor: Stephen CarterBottom of Form January 14, 2013 Legalize Physician-Assisted Suicide “To be or not to be ” the infamous question brought about by Shakespeare in his famous play called Hamlet (No Sweat Shakespeare, 2004-2013) begged Hamlet to question whether to exist or not exist. As in the play, there are people who have struggled to answer this question throughout human history. In modern times a debate has sprung regarding the sickly who are terminally ill. Although some believe that physician-assisted suicide should not be legalized because it is a moral issue that they maintain is unnecessary and what it boils down to a lack of physician training that puts undue pressure on patients to opt for suicide, the procedure should be legalized because, when death is imminent, people should not be limited by laws that affect their basic human rights, forcing them to live in agonizing pain due to inadequate medical services, and allow them to die with dignity. If physician-assisted suicide were legalized then terminally ill people would be relieved from having to endure unnecessary pain and suffering when, even with medical intervention, the patient is forced to endure an agonizing demise. Assisting in more than 130 terminally ill patient suicides between 1990 and 1998, Dr. Jack Kevorkian believed that terminally ill patients should be allowed to determine...

...Should Physician Assisted Suicide Be Legalized? Julia Schulenburg PHI103 Informal Logic Professor Robert Paixao September 2, 2013 Should Physician Assisted Suicide be Legalized? In today’s society there are many so many controversial issues one of the biggest being Patient Assisted Suicide, or PAS. PAS is defined as: “suicide by a patient facilitated by means or information (as a drug prescription or indication of the lethal dosage) provided by a physician who is aware of how the patient intends to use such means or information.” Merriam-Webster Dictionary (n.d.). Let us not get PAS confused with Euthanasia, this is different, to be euthanized is when the doctor himself physically administers the lethal dosage into the patient causing their death. PAS is just the doctor prescribing the drugs for the patient to give to themselves to cause them to die. There are people who are in favor of allowing a doctor to prescribe a lethal dose of medication or machinery for the patient to administer to themselves to end their own life due having a terminal illness. Then there are those who greatly oppose it, some being doctors, moralists, the general public, as well as some private groups. They claim physician assisted suicide to be immoral, ethically wrong, against religious beliefs, and unnecessary with proper palliative care. While PAS is a controversial topic in modern day society, it originally stemmed from ancient civilizations, which defended the rights of citizens to...

PHI103 Informal Logic – Week 5 Final Paper Instructor: Galen Johnson December 16, 2012 -1- 2 Death Penalty The Death Penalty: Is it a Flawed System? People have many arguments against the death penalty, and most citizens do not believe that it is a discouragement for the crimes that it punishes. American societies that use capital punishment do not find that they have lower crime rates than those that don’t 1 use capital punishment. Most people would still not accept capital punishment even if it did reduce the crime rate. This indicates that capital punishment is focused on the financially deprived, and targets those who can’t afford to pay for a good lawyer. Research shows that people with little or no money get the highest penalties in society. A lot of people have no...
