It does this by inactivating an enzyme necessary for the cross linking of bacterial cell walls. The enzyme is known as the Tran peptidase. It accepts the penicillin as a substrate, it the alkanolates a nucleophilic oxygen of the enzyme, rendering it inactive. Cell wall construction stops and the bacteria soon die. The antibiotic nature of the penicillin so due to the strain lactam ring, on opening the ring strain is relieved this makes penicillin more reactive than ordinary amides. Before penicillin a simple pinprick or tiny cut could have been lethal. There are so many people easily catching infections that would rage out of control. Children died regularly from scarlet fever, from infections of the bones, throat, stomach or, brain. Many of us would not be here today had it not been for the discovery of penicillin. This decision would change everything, not just in my life, but my families life. My first solution would be to stay in the military. With this solution came a lot of sacrifice. If I stayed in the military I would be receiving orders out of California, which is where home is, unaccompanied. Unaccompanied means that I would be moving without my family. I would be in a different state or country for two years without my family. The second solution would be to get out. The scary part about that is that I didn't have a job secured for when I got out as of yet. I had been applying through several law enforcement agencies and interviewing, but had not yet received a yes from any. I was given 24 hours to make the decision. I soon decided that the best solution for me was to get out. Although this is a decision left a lot to the unknown I just could not imagine being away from my wife and kids for two years. We would fight with them to the point that they would get grounded or even worse spanked. So one day my wife and I were sitting around the house talking about this and decided to true multiple different ways to get the kids involved, but without the hassle. After many attempts at all of those ways we came up with the “Hat Game”. This game proved to be a godsend and after five years we still do this every Sunday. And rightly so with many of the speakers being futurists and many of the talks held emphasized future developments in various fields. Sir Ken Robinson is a British author, speaker, and international advisor on education in the arts. I had seen this talk on TED a few years ago and it really struck a chord with me. I had not seen it I quite some time and so when I saw it again it had the same effect on me as the first time I saw it. I found the talk to be not only enlightening but funny and upbeat. Sir Ken Robinson has excellent public speaking skills and a fantastic wit. During his talk he brings up several points about education and the current system.
