Ethics in Management Corporations have philosophical concepts to build a reliable business by having ethical values. Corporations adopt mission statements or ethical codes of conduct. Ethics are important to individuals, organizations, and society as it represents honesty. Corporations attempt to gain clients or customers attention, reel them in, and hope to keep them as their loyal customers or clients. Individuals are either happy or unhappy. When clients are happy, clients remain faithful. When clients are discontent, the risk of losing a client occurs, a complaint is filed, or a grievance process is initiated. When this occurs, the business may be seen as untrustworthy. Businesses are built on their values and do not want to ruin an exceptional reputation. Therefore, businesses attempt to regulate irreconcilable differences or misconduct by having structures in place when making ethical decisions. It takes coordinating to provide customer service satisfaction. Importantly, serving society benefits the organization which is best stated according to Trevino (2007), “organizations function best within healthy communities...have a responsibility to address certain social problems because of its unique abilities, and because a healthy social environment is a prerequisite for a healthy business environment” (p. 1). It is essential to have an ethical system built with morals and values important to individuals, organizations, and society because of regard to higher standards and principles correlating to positive qualities when dealing with the ethics of business behavior. The Ethical System at My Workplace I have worked for DaVita Healthcare for thirteen years now. These principles form our basis of morality. Our ethical system comprises the underlying ethical principles, which we use to make decisions. It also directs our conduct and behavior. Character is the total of an individual’s moral qualities: is she a good person or bad person, is he worthy of trust and admiration or not (Josephson, 2011). One particular ethical issue is at the core of a huge story that has dominated the news for months on end and has lead to more trying times on Wall Street.
