...Cameron White Unit 6 Research Paper 1 What is a NAS device? A NAS (Network-Attached Storage) is a server that is dedicated to nothing more than file sharing. It’s usually a network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients. NAS usually has a speed of 1GB Ethernet connection but it can be changed to Gb, 10Gb, fiber optic by adding a PCIe network card. They usually have a capacity range from 0-Unlimitied. The capacity varies because you can always add on hardware drive controller cards. You can have a board that has six SATA ports that can allow 30 drives to be attached and 3TB drives are used in RAID 50, then there would be 72TB of storage. When using RAID there aren’t really any fault tolerance. Older models of RAID have been known to lose all storage if one or more drives fail. When using a NAS device there are management features available like using SSL to protect the web management interface to bare minimum, also support of protocols such as SSH for encryption of RSYNC data transfers. SMB’s with more than two dozen users will appreciate a proper management console from which users and permissions can be managed. SMB’s that have deployed Active Directory will be looking for a NAS that supports it as well. Some models can switch off when not in use to save power and you can always play with the settings. NAS can be really helpful and can defiantly be helpful with a family that all has there own computer. With NAS you can have photos and videos and share them/access...

...spectroscopic studies on nucleic acids led to the use of X-ray crystallography to define the Watson-Crick model of DNA. Rosalind Franklin discovered the molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal and graphite. She was a British biophysicist and X-ray crystallographer who was best known for her work on the X-ray diffraction images of DNA which led to discovery of DNA double helix. Rosalind Franklin's critical contributions to the Crick and Watson model include an X-ray photograph of B-DNA (called photograph 51), that was briefly shown to James Watson by Maurice Wilkins in January 1953. From this x-ray photograph Watson and Crick were able to determine that the structure of DNA was helical. When? * 1869 was a landmark year in genetic research; because it was the year in which Swiss physiological chemist Friedrich Miescher first identified what he called “nuclein” inside the nuclei of human white blood cells * Although 1953 was...

...and Truth Photo manipulation has been around for over a century, but the recent focus on Photoshop has caused news photography to be looked at in a new light. As a result, pictures that have been manipulated have been called into question, and therefore have had a significant effect on the credibility of various forms of print media. In this new age of media, where circulation is down and corporations are cutting employees, credibility is a much talked about commodity. Although photo manipulation has a great effect on the credibility of media, it should be considered an art form and given a certain amount of freedom. To accurately understand the argument, the history of pre-Photoshop manipulation opens the paper, followed by modern manipulation and the backlash it has caused, what credibility is, how newspapers are addressing photo manipulation, and how modern manipulation should be handled and the standards that it is held to. Photoshop is a tool that has made the practice of photo manipulation both easy and affordable. But what is photo manipulation? It is simply altering an original image, taking the negative or digital image and changing it in some way. This practice has always been common, as photographers have enhanced lighting or used filters to eliminate a certain color. However, in the context of this paper most of the examples addressed deal with the current, narrower view of photo manipulation. According to the 2006 edition of Merriam Webster, photo manipulation...

...Memory Without it, you’d be constantly living in one moment to the next. You wouldn’t know who you are, where you came from or where you are going. But what is it? And how does it work? To answer these questions, early memory researchers decided to break memory down into simple structures. The mysterious power of our mind to store images, words and sounds, was reduced into several components. All of these components were then thought to interact through simple processes. Simplifying memory in this way was a necessary step in developing our understanding of how memory functions. From this structured view of memory, two important models of memory were developed: the Multi-store Model and the Working-Memory Model. Section 1: Multi-store model of memory Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) Do you think you have a good memory? What is your earliest memory? The multi-store model is a structural model which states that memory is made up of 3 distinct, separate stores: sensory memory, short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory (LTM). Each of the stores can be analysed based on three factors: 1) Capacity: how much information can be stored 2) Duration: the amount of time the information can be stored 3) Encoding: how the information is represented by the memory system Sensory memory The first store in the multi-store model is the sensory memory store. This store provides an account of the environment as experienced by our senses. A copy of the stimulus is kept here until we determine...

Technology has changed almost every part of our society, including our educational methods. Traditionally, schools tell their stakeholders what needs exist for students in their school. Authors like Fuller (1996) and Siemans (2004) have shown that educators, as a group, have a gap in their perception of computer usage. This gap suggests that teachers may not be using computers competently in their lesson plans. Early implementation of computers in classrooms was an additional activity rather than integrating them into the core curriculum. Other resistance to technology integration comes from the idea that the school day is already too busy and teachers cannot add anything new (Jenkins, Clinton, Purushotma, Robinson, & Weigel, 2006). Outside the classroom, students are on the forefront of technology usage. Today’s students are considered...

...Nathan Clark Design for Instruction Task The information gathered from my contextual factors and pre-assessment inform me of what type of students I will be teaching. The contextual factors help me to have a better understanding of the type of demographic my students belong to and what type of learning styles they attain. This information will also allow me to know of any outside characteristics that may inhibit learning for an individual student and the students as a whole. For example, some students may have learning disabilities and the student’s as a whole may react negatively to artworks involving polytheism. Giving the pre-assessment allowed me to fully understand what level my students are performing for that particular unit. I have found that I need to focus a lot of time on vocabulary definitions and how to apply the terms to artwork. Prompt Results of Pre-Assessment The students in this introductory level drawing class consists of students that are required to take this class as an elective or students who have an interest in drawing and wish to pursue it. The students in this class have limited experience with the concepts and skills in drawing. The pre-assessment results allow for an analysis of where the students are in terms of general knowledge. The pre-assessment for learning goal one allowed me to have a base quality level of the students’ performance. It enables me to see what each student is capable of in terms of skill and...

...data with Kodak’s senior executives. Film sales had dropped 5% from 2001 and revenues were down 3%. 2003 did not look any brighter: Carp expected revenues to grow only slightly and net income to remain flat or decrease (see exhibit 1 for information on Kodak’s financial performance and exhibits 2 and 3 for information on sales of cameras and film rolls in the United States). The film industry was “under pressure unlike ever before.” Carp predicted a “fairly long downturn”1 for traditional photography sales as consumers turned to digital cameras, which did not require film. Kodak was moving more of its manufacturing to China, where it could boost film sales, and was planning to slash 2,200 jobs, or 3% of its work force, especially in the photo-finishing business. Carp had received a master’s in business from MIT. He had begun his career at Kodak in 1970 as a statistical analyst. Since then, he had held a variety of positions at Kodak. In 1997, he became president and COO, and was appointed CEO on January 1, 2000. He believed Kodak’s current struggle was one of the toughest it had faced. How could he use digital imaging to revitalize Kodak? Kodak, 1880-1983: A brief history In 1880, George Eastman invented and patented a dry-plate formula and a machine for preparing large numbers of plates. He also founded the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York. In 1884, he replaced glass photographic plates with a roll of film, believing in “the future of the film business.”2 Although...

...Attentional Blink Attentional Blink (AB) is the occurrence when the second of two visual targets cannot be detected or identified when it appears proximate in time to the first (Badcock, Badcock, Fletcher & Hogben, 2012). The purport of this research paper is to examine the attentional blink, identify alternative targets for focus, identify vocations that attentional blink can cause mistakes, and consider the effect of vehicle design in connection to attention blink. The next section discusses attention blink in relation to attention. Attentional Blink Relationship to Attention Attentional blink is a phenomenon that occurs with rapid serial visual presentations (RSVP) (Vul, Nieuwenstein & Kanwisher, 2008). In simpler terms, when a set of objects is viewed by the ocular perceiver in rapid succession only one set of objects will command the attention of the brain and be processed, while the other objects are ignored (Vul, et al., 2008). According to, Badcock et al. (2012), the key to attention is that the second timeframe makes the second object invisible to some viewers. Therefore, it stands to reason that if...
