...` Carrie Mae Weems By: Elijah Hutchinson Period: 1 My photography work has been inspired in many ways. It will also inspire me in other ways in the future. There are many things I want to learn how to do with my photography work. I want to learn how to take pictures by explaining what's going on in my picture, also I want to investigate family relationships by looking at a photo and realizing what the family is going through, also learn how to use digital technology. By learning this type of material and structure of art work it will have an influence on me in the future. To become a better photographer I began looking at pictures in the book and looking at the detailed work that is in the photograph or in magazines and going to exhibitions of pictures, and also going to places that show photographs. In the future dealing with photography work I want to tell a story through my pictures. I feel that when I learn how does storytelling help more people understand and see where I'm coming from with my work. I think storytelling will be a fundamental way of me expressing the human condition. Later on in life when I start to do storytelling I don't want to hide the problems that my family have because I want the people to understand through my pictures how my family is. Through my photographs the facials expresses the emotions that is occurring while the photo is taken. This can either be expressed by my family smiling or if they look angry and don’t look excited...

...Photography - is the art, science and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film, or electronically by means of an image sensor. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. The result in an electronic image sensor is an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. ...Photography Photography is undoubtedly one of the most important inventions in history -- it has truly transformed how people conceive of the world. Now we can "see" all sorts of things that are actually many miles -- and years -- away from us. Photography lets us capture moments in time and preserve them for years to come Today, photography is characterized by a rapid growth in the development of technology and ideas. Each year, millions of pictures are taken and an astonishing array of new films, cameras and imaging systems enter the market. One of the great attractions of the photography field is the ease with which basic skills can be learned. The word ‘photography’ comes from the Greek term ‘drawing with light’. Without light there is no photograph. Photography is about seeing, balancing and interpreting the light. Composition of Photography The Camera: The materials that are usually used in creating a camera are metal, glass, plastic, wood, and mirrors. The Film: Collodion: This substance transformed photography. This a viscous mixture of gun cotton that is dissolved in alcohol that then creates a thin film. It is then mixed with silver bromide, silver iodide or silver chloride. This substance reduced exposure time to seconds instead of hours. Film: The first type of camera film was produced when the collodion was combined with celluloid, a flexible plastic. This film started to be sold with “Kodak” in 1889 along with the worlds first box camera. Chemicals...

The result in an electronic image sensor is an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. On 1834, in Campinas, Brazil, Hercules Florence, a French painter and inventor, wrote in his diary the word "photographie" to describe his process. As far as can be ascertained, it was Sir John Herschel in a lecture before the Royal Society of London, on March 14, 1839 who made the word "photography" known to the world. But in an article published on February 25 of the same year in a German newspaper called the Vossische Zeitung, Johann von Maedler, a Berlin astronomer, had used the word photography already. The word photography derives from the Greek φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), "light" and γραφή (graphé) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light". Invented in the first decades of the 19th century, photography (by way of the camera) seemed able to capture more detail and information than traditional...

...To me, photography is a way to capture a moment in time. Fancy equipment is not necessary to take wonderful images. Learning to see like the camera sees and knowing your internal vision are much more important than expensive equipment to photography. Most important is that you have the desire to take great images and be willing to learn. My name is Mahmood. I’m Bahraini and I was born in 1992. I started my first photography experience when I was twelve or thirteen years old using my friend’s camera and my first photo was my nephew’s portrait. My first camera that I bought with the own money was Nikon D40. Somehow photography became the joy of my life. Photography is fantasy that I can never have enough of it. I am so touched by photography that I started learning it using you tube and internet site. In other words, I am self-taught. Photography is my calling and hopefully one day would be my profession, and the thing that will undoubtedly drive me insane someday. I don’t photograph subjects. I photograph the way they make me feel. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a strange concept. But it’s honest – and it’s the best way to describe my approach to the craft. I wrestle with every image I shoot. I assume perfection is possible and I want to squeeze it out of every picture. If that’s all you ever know about me, it’s enough to say you know me very, very well. Though, currently I am studying interior design, I am always thinking about photography. As I grow older, my personal taste is...

It involves recordinglight patterns as reflected from objects, on to a sensitive medium through momentary exposure. The process is done through mechanical, chemical or digital devices commonly known as camera. ...Flipping The Coin of Photography Before, I tell you about what I am going to write, first and foremost I would like you all to imagine two situations. The first is suppose you enter an old palace, what do you expect to find. Well, you are sure to have a glimpse of numerous paintings hung on the gorgeous walls depicting portraits of glorious emperors and his beautiful wives, or certain scenes of importance being depicted on the walls. Any genuine person would call the palace and its adored paintings, a work of art and rather be mesmerised by the antiquity. Now, the second situation is somewhat we all are acquainted with. What do you expect to find as you enter the house of a popular film star. Well you are luckily you are going to see numerous photographs of stars being framed and hung on the wall. You can also find a good deal of landscape photographs in any modern household. Well, now the question arises. Will you call this house a patron of art? This is where the ambiguity arises. It has been almost 180 years now, and still innumerable critics have been raging a battle among themselves on whether to consider photography as an art. Well, I am no critic, neither I am any artist or photographer. I am what you all are, a layman. And I will try to analyse things from layman’s point of view. So, being impartial, standing on the vulnerable bisector dividing the two forms, I would like to establish art with photography. How do we describe art? Art is a form of media be it painting...

This is so important because it assist in recording the crime scene. Taking notes, video recording and taking photographs of the scene assist through the entire case. Pictures that are taken at a crime scene can and will be brought into trial to help either sides explain what happened. When taking pictures of a crime scene you have to imagine that you are creating a puzzle that will have to be put back together later. That means the entrance, exit, and corners need to be captured. Once the outline has been captured the evidence and where the evidence was found needs to be taken, at different angles and different exposures it also needs to be measured as the pictures are being taken. ...“Is photography art?” may appear to be a seemingly irrelevant question today. In our culture we are not only surrounded by media and marketing images for consumers. Camera images also function as decoration, provide spiritual enrichment, and give us insight into the past and present. In the years following the discovery of photography, however, this medium was criticized and critiqued while trying to be recognized as a form of artistic expression in a period dominated by painting. Similar to painters, photographers can approach their photographs in a variety of ways, transforming them from mere “careless snapshots” into beautiful, original pieces of work. The Seven Last Words, by F. Holland day is considered one of the most important images in the history of photography. This piece contains iconic religious and spiritual importance which influenced subsequent artists significantly. The monumental self-portrait depicts Day as Christ in a series of seven platinum prints set in a frame designed by the artist. In order to prepare for his self-portraits Day starved himself, grew out his beard, and imported cloth and a cross from Syria. It is without question that Day’s depiction of Christ is unsettling and full of emotion as he portrays Jesus speaking out his last words. His images are soft and painterly-like, blurring the visible line between painting and photography. Many individuals may have difficulty distinguishing the two. His dramatic use of lighting can also be compared...

...The Future of Photography Over the last 150 or so years that photography has been in our lives, it didn’t undergo much change until twenty years ago. While film sizes and developing techniques had minor changes, it wasn’t until the 80′s when the first glimmer of the future of photography started to appear with auto-focus camera’s and faster frames per seconds. Then digital came and has forever changed our lives. I do see many changes in the future, some may come to be, and some may be just too far-fetched, however, anything is possible. I see in camera HDR, unlimited ISO, simulated grain, 3g equipped cameras, GPS equipped cameras, and Polaroid film comes back to life, universal batteries, even, the everything lens. High dynamic range photography has been more of a curse then a blessing as most photographers see it. Most over-use the ability and create more art images compared with a true photography, layering and layering until what they have more closely resembles a digitally created image, not a photograph. If a camera can have the ability to do HDR on the fly, in camera it could open up the door for better, more equally exposed images. High end DSLRs now seem to be able to shoot in near total darkness, however the blacks still tend to go green in hue. Working towards better chips that don’t get as hot will lead to better night images without flash. Grain is not a bad thing! 25 years ago photographers chose film based on the grain type, fine, coarse, etc., and the...

The invention of photography as we know it in the modern world today is one which not one person can solely be praised for as many generations have been involved in its perfection. The concept behind photography is the “camera obscure” Latin for “dark chamber”, and was a room or box with a small opening or lens in one side which was known to the ancient world as early as Aristotle and Leonardo da Vinci...
