Learn the Basics of Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems to bring one's creative vision to life in everything from layered designed to expensive paintings, 3D artwork to entire movies. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software, and is the flagship product of Adobe Systems. It has been described as "an industry standard for graphics professionals" and was one of the early "killer applications" on the Macintosh, later also for the PC.
2005, Adobe's "Creative Suite" rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8's renaming to Adobe Photoshop CS. Thus Adobe Photoshop CS4 is the 11th major release but the latest released, "Adobe Creative Cloud" has become popular very fast. The Photoshop CC rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price. Adobe Photoshop is included in most of Adobe's Creative Cloud offerings.

Image Adjustment & Style Tools

Layers
Photoshop can buy or download as a free trial version at adobe.com or other software download site. Opening a file on Photoshop, it should look something like this:

The Move Tool simply lets you move objects in a given layer around the Photoshop canvas.
The Hand Tool is for easily navigating around when you're zoomed in or a picture is simple too big to fit on the screen. If the entire canvas currently fits on the screen, this tool won't do anything.
The Zoom Tool lets you zoom in and out of the Photoshop canvas by clicking on a given area.
Marquee Tool, Lasso Tool; are the basic tools to select any specific portion that user wants freely or geometrically. Just have to select the tool hold on the portion until it cover.

The Magic Wand Tool is another tool for selecting. Clicking an area, it will tell Photoshop to select the spot you clicked on and anything around it that's similar. This tool can be used as a crude way to remove backgrounds from photos.
According to Adobe, the Crop Tool is the most used tool in Photoshop. It's one of the tools that absent anything else, can dramatically improve the composition of any unsymmetrical photographs. Some say, 'a picture is worth a thousand words", but sometimes a picture is not enough it needs words, too. Photoshop's Text Tool gives a few options. Photoshop Text Tool's menu, like all font menus, lets user configure the font in many ways. You can change Front Type, Front Style, Front Size, Front Color, Paragraph Style; you can also "Warp" the text on the horizontal or vertical axis.

The Paint Bucket Tool is a common paint application; it will fill any give area with the color of user choice. While most applications require the filled area to be a solid color, Photoshop lets user adjust the tolerance so that any pixel that falls within the range of the original click location will get filled. For example, the right side of this image was filled with blue, using the Overlay mode.

The Clone Stamp lets user pick up part of the image, and copy it to another part of the image. In Photoshop it can done very smoothly. First, have to choose the source for copying then cover the destination with Brush in comfortable size.

Dodging and burning have their roots in the days when photographers developed their films in a darkroom. Masking parts of the photograph blocked the light getting to the photograph, effectively lightening the masked area, burning or letting more light through, darkened the burned area. Dodge Tool and Burn tools help to do that same thing far more reliably.
The Sponge Tool lets user selectively desaturate (remove color), or saturate (enrich color) an image. As an example; the left side of the boat has been desaturated and the right side has been the saturated the colors but the middle of the boat left untouched for comparison.

In Photoshop, a picture can improve by correcting level, balancing color, adjusting brightness and contrast or rotate in any angle. If you want to give your picture any artistic effect; there's a Filter Menu that can change a picture away from its original state.

Photoshop has strong ties with other Adobe software for media editing, animation, and authoring. The PSD (Photoshop Document), Photoshop's native format, stores an image with support for most imaging options available in Photoshop. These include Layers with Masks, Color Spaces, ICC Profiles, Transparency, Text, Alpha Channels and Spot Colors, Clipping Paths, and Duotone Settings. This is in contrast to many other file formats (e.g. EPS or GIF) that restrict content to provide streamlined, predictable functionality.
The PSD file format is widely used, and it is supported to some extent by most competing software. This file format can be exported to and from Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to make professional standard DVDs and provide non-linear editing and special effects services, such as backgrounds, textures and so on, for television, film and the Web. Photoshop is a pixel-based image editor, unlike Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, which are vector-based image editor.

Peer Tutoring and the Conversation of Mankind.Doc

...87 .,~. Peer Tutoring and the "Conversation of Mankind" by Kenneth A. Bruffee The beginnings of peer tutoring lie in practice, not in theory. A decade or so ago, faculty and administrators in a few institutions around the country became aware that, increasingly, students entering college had difficulty doing as well in academic studies as their abilities suggested they should be able to do. Some of these students were in many ways poorly prepared academically. Many more of them, however, had on paper excellent secondary preparation. The common denominator among the poorly prepared and the apparently well prepared seemed to be that, for cultural reasons we may not yet fully under stand, all these students had difficulty adapting to the traditional or "normal" conventions of the college classroom. One symptom of the difficulty was that many of these students refuSed .help when it was offered. Mainly, colleges offered ancillary programs staffed by professionals. Students avoided them in droves. Many solutions to this problem were suggested and tried, from mandated programs to sink-or-swim. One idea that seemed at the time among the most exotic and unlikely (that is, in the jargon of the Sixties, among the most "radical") turned out to work rather well. Some of us had guessed that students were refusing the help we were providing because it seemed to them merely an extension of the work, the expectations, and above all the social structure of traditional classroom learning. And...
