...Two subfields of psychology that most interest me would be Behavior Neuroscience and Developmental Psychology. I find behavior neuroscience interesting because I am intrigued on how the mind works. From the biological events that makes us happy to the events that makes us depressed to the illnesses and disorders, the mind is so complex and complicated but learning on these things work is captivating to me, I believe I would find these experts handling MRI’s and or evaluation medical imaging related to the brain and the nervous system. The field of developmental psychology is just as interesting to me as well, being part of a nursing facility I had the opportunity to take part in program that measured the effects or reducing medication by finding who the patient was and what made them react and have certain behaviors, some of the interventions where simple and required nothing more them getting to know what they liked and how to turn this into a positive activity that pleased the patient and calmed them down without the use of medication. This program allowed getting to know a patient that had such an interesting life and his mind was reliving certain memories, I was able to calm this patient down and even have a full meal by just sitting next to him, taking him for walks and talking about his pictures. I found this very amazing that an Alzheimer’s patient had such advances without being medicated. These experts could be found working with children, elderly and the mentally...

...Special Issue on the History of Psychology in Canada Luke Turner Dr. Z Glass PSY-100 2/9/14 This article begins by pointing out that history and theory of psychology is much stronger in Canada than it is elsewhere. However, the history of psychology in Canada itself tends to be neglected. This situation is linked to the dominance of American psychology and the movement to establish a distinctively Canadian psychology that differs from psychology in the United States. It is argued that this movement can help to encourage more interest in the history of psychology in Canada and vice versa. According to (e.g., Jordan, 2011) It is also suggested that addressing the neglect of the history of psychology in Canada will lead to more internationalization. This article was an editorial article because it points out that textbooks on the history of psychology are rarely mention in Canada and that, CPA (Canadian Psychological Association) has an active branch devoted to history and philosophy of psychology. For examples this article has a timeline in changes in psychology. First Psychology has traditionally been based on naturalistic assumptions and has consequently neglected the influence of culture. In1984, {Smedslund} called it “the invisible obvious” in psychology (Smedslund, 1984). This situation began to change in the 1980s and 1990s as culture became an important area of research, the most likely explanation being the worldwide trend toward globalization and the increasing amount...

...Art, Creativity and Freedom ''Art for Art's Sake'' view orginating from the early 19th century is a French slogan. It is also the slogan of Aesthetic Movement. Its original is ''l'art pour l'art'' in French. It appeared as a reaction to '' Art for Poeple's Sake'' view and its claims about art's being didactic, directive and morally appropriate. According to the this idea, purifying art from didactic, moral or utilitarian factors is necessary. The supporters argue that art has no certain aim and the artist has no certain duty. They want to isolate art from everything that borders art's freedom and originality. They think that to educate people is not the job of the artist's. The artist should only focus on improving his creativity, originality and art. Briefly, they argue that the "Art for Art’s Sake" view sets the artists free, and enables them to be more creative in art, it helps their pieces of art being purified from the restricted doctrines of ordinary life.Edgar Allan Poe, Théophile Gautier, Walter Pater, Oscar Wilde are some of the important followers of ''Art for Art's Sake'' view. Albert Guérard summarizes and describes the "Art for Art's Sake" notion by saying that: As a faith, Art for Art's sake is a form of mysticism. It implies that Art is a direct revela-tion. The poet - and by that word we mean the creator, whatever his medium may be - acknowledges no authority but his own inspiration. His art is a law unto itself, for it transcends the laws of ...

...The play’s plot is driven by the power and consequence of losses, more specifically, the losses and diminishing of Lear. In the course the play, King Lear, because of his flaws, loses his authority as a king, his identity as a father, and his sanity as a man. The play begins with King Lear's decision to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. This is the first sign of Lear's loss and diminishing of his power through the loss of his authority. Wanting to abandon his responsibilities before his time, Lear claims, "tis our fast intent / To shake all cares and business from our age, / Conferring them on younger strengths while we / Unburdened crawl toward death". It can be argued that this diminishment comes from his own decision to prematurely abdicate the throne. Lear carries immense insecurity and egotism as he announces that he will offer the largest share of kingdom to the daughter who professes the greatest love for him. Goneril and Regan both proclaim in fulsome terms that they love him more than anything in the world, while Cordelia speaks from her heart in honest terms that she loves him exactly as a daughter should love her father. Valuing self-importance above all else, Lear is blind to the loyalty and love of Cordelia and instead, perceptive to the flattery of his two vile daughters. This only furthers the notion that his diminishing is not only largely self initiated and inflicted but also that it is largely deserved as one is likely to sympathise with Cordelia...

...Lincoln on Leadership Lincoln on Leadership I start this project on Lincoln’s leadership very reluctantly. I am a history buff and have always viewed his leadership through the eyes of jaded historians. They have portrayed him as a dictator, incompetent, and a buffoon at some points. After reading the Donald T. Phillips book Lincoln on Leadership, my mindset was totally changed. This book broke down four key areas that produced an effective leader in Lincoln. These areas are character, people, endeavor, and communication. I will be sharing a principal from each key area that I found important and then conclude with an overall thought. The first key area in Lincoln’s Leadership was his interaction with people. Historians have often scoffed at the idea that he was hardly in the White House and it was true but they did not understand why. Phillips discusses Lincoln’s open door policy and his philosophy of “roving leadership” in that he was constantly leaving his office. D. Phillips (1992) tells us one of the reasons why he did this with, “All leaders must seek and require access to reliable and up-to-date information” (pg 21). Leaders need to leave their office to truly understand what is going on in their organization. Lincoln knew this well and this is why he was always out getting information from military leaders, constituents, staff, and sometimes even opponents. The second reason for this idea of “roving leadership” should be adopted by most leaders of today including...

...One cannot dismiss the fact that Psychology's roots stems from discoveries made over 2000 years ago. According to my textbook the historical foundation laid were partially credited to the ancient Greeks. For it was the Grecians traders, that travelled the coastlands, who began to observe other cultures. It was the thoughts and the views and the opinions of the civilizations that caused the ancient Philosophers to want to know more about themselves and others. The desire to know and understan is the fuel needed to keep searching for answers. The Ancient Greek had one basic category of philosophy that I somewhat agreed with and that is Idealism. It suggested that their is a "true reality" under the apparent reality". The dictionary defines truth as the highest form of reality that could ever exist, But I like what Socrates quote "Know Thyself", he goes on to say ", I want to discover at present is the art which devotes its attention to precision, exactness and fullest truth. I feel thats the one thing everybody want to know is the truth behind whether it behaviors or action. So, what do we know today about ourselves? I think when begin to search within for truth, for answers that it becomes complicated. Self study or self analysis is a place where many are afraid to face. Then it becomes much easier to focus on other people behaviors and actions. Its much easier to analyze the mindset of others rather than ourselves. There will always be new studies...
