Physical Networking Unit 2 Assignment
1. The American National Standards Institute is a private non-profit organization that oversees the development of voluntary consensus standards for products, services, processes, systems, and personnel in the United States. The organization also coordinates U.S. standards with international standards so that American products can be used worldwide. For example, standards ensure that people who own cameras can find the film they need for that camera anywhere around the globe.
ANSI accredits standards that are developed by representatives of standards developing organizations, government agencies, consumer groups, companies, and others. These standards ensure that the characteristics and performance of products are consistent, that people use the same definitions and terms, and that products are tested the same way. ANSI also accredits organizations that carry out product or personnel certification in accordance with requirements defined in international standards.
2. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, read I-Triple-E) is a non-profit professional association headquartered in New York City that is dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence. It has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries, about 51.4% of whom reside in the United States.
IEEE is one of the leading standards-making organizations in the world. IEEE performs its standards making and maintaining functions through the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA). IEEE standards affect a wide range of industries including: power and energy, biomedical and healthcare, Information Technology (IT), telecommunications, transportation, nanotechnology, information assurance, and many more. In 2005, IEEE had close to 900 active standards, with 500 standards under development. One of the more notable IEEE standards is the

Network Topology 3 Section 1 3 Conclusion 5 Reference 5 Network Topology Scope or Introduction Unit 3. Assignment 1. Network Topology Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes In this assignment, you will describe the hierarchical star, bus, and ring network topologies. Assignment Requirements Chapter3 covered 3 main network topologies – hierarchical star, bus, and ring. Write a paragraph describing each topology. Discuss the reasons for using each, and any strengths/weaknesses each has. Submission Requirements Submit a 1-2 page Word document; double-spaced; Times New Roman 12 pt font. Cite all sources used. Section 1 In computer networking, topology refers to the layout of connected devices. Think of a topology as a network’s virtual shape or structure. This shape does not necessarily correspond to the actual physical layout of the devices on the network. For example, the computers on a home network may be arranged in a circle in a family room, but it would highly unlikely to find a ring topology there. Hierarchical Star Hierarchical star is also known as an extended star topology. Hierarchical or extended star topology is a star network with an additional networking device connected to the main networking device. Typically, a network...

...Assignment 2: Networking oy ABSTRACT In the following pages I will describe the features of telecommunications networks, including key networking technologies. I will cover the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, including each layer. I will discuss whether the telephone networks and computer networks will remain distinct in the future. I will describe various network media and how they are changing. I will explain the differences among LANS, WANS, CANS, and MANS. I will describe three (3) ways in which businesses use internet services and protocol. (For example, what is VOIP, and how is it used?) Assignment 2: Networking Telecommunications network is the network of lines, trunks and telephone switches operated by telephone companies, long distance companies and competitive local exchange carriers. A network consist of two or more connected computers. A basic network includes computers, network, interfaces, a connection medium, network operating system software and either a hub or a switch. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model is a data communication model consisting of seven layers. The model was designed to formulate a standard for allowing different types and brands of computers to communicate with one another. Each layer has a specific responsibility or function. Seven Layers of OSI model Physical – The physical layer defines the electrical, mechanical, procedural, and functional specifications...

Ip Networking Assignment 1.1

...IP Networking Assignment 1.1 Chapter 1 1. The TCP/IP networking model is a model of networking functions that are separated into different layers. Each layer performs a specific function that effects the layer above and below it. We use the TCP/IP model to troubleshoot a computer that is experiencing network issues. 2. There are seven different layers in an OSI model. Layer 1 (Physical layer): the physical characteristics of a computer such as connectors and pins. Layer 2 (Data Link): defines the internet protocols and the format of a header and trailer that allows devices to send and receive data successfully. Layer 3 (Network): routing IP packets and IP addressing. Layer 4 (Transport): data delivery from one computer to another. Layer 5 (Session): User communicating with the computer. Layer 6 (Presentation): defining data formats such as text files (.txt) and picture files (JPEG). Layer 7 (Application): support for applications such email and internet explorer. 3. The difference between same layer and adjacent layer interactions is that same layer deals with two computers, while adjacent with just one computer. 4. Encapsulation is the process of placing data into a header and footer. Decapsulation is the process of removing data from a header and footer. Chapter 2 1. There are five different types of Ethernet which are 10Base2, 10Base5, 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, and 1000Base-T. Also there are many different types of topologies such as bus, star, mesh, extended star...
