Comparing the Fall and Spring Semesters, I can personally infer that Physical Therapy has turned out better than expected. The difference between my Fall Semester and my Spring Semester is that during Spring, I became more interactive in games and I assisted my peers more often. Through my experiences, working various games and track meets, training for CPR/First Aid use, staying after school to work on and practice skills, as well as the assistance from my peers, I began to understand and fully develop a sense of how to actually use these skills and techniques such as, wrapping ice bags on the body, First Aid/CPR, and taking an athlete’s SOAP note in real life situations.
One of the first techniques I had practiced during this semester was actually taking a patient’s SOAP note. To many people, this seemed like a mediocre task when Ms.Niki demonstrated it last semester, but once we were tasked to obtain the patient’s history on our own, it became nerve-racking. Luckily the first athlete I had to assess was an old friend of mine from middle school. During a Track meet in April 2018, various athletes came to the Rhino-Cart requesting for ice on their lower extremities. Since I had not gotten this skill mastered before, I sought the opportunity to do, by seeking assistance and explanation on how to create and successfully wrap ice bags on athletes. Near the end of the Track meet, one of the athletes jogged towards the Rhino-Cart, asking if I would rewrap the ice bag due to it slipping multiple times.
