Balancing the needs of the practice, patients and preventing Physician Burnout.

2015 has introduced several concepts and changes in practice management that have lofty, long-term goals such as ICD-10,increasing diagnostic codes from 13,000 to 68,000, daunting model of the Patient Centered Medical Home( PCMH) embraced by the ACA but often unattainable to smaller physician practices, as well as concepts ambiguous concepts such as “meaningful use”. Of course we are given the duty to take care of patients and provide the highest quality medical care available, but who is caring for the well-being of physicians? In the 2015 Medscape Lifestyle Report 46% of physicians are experiencing feelings of burnout. As a result, fewer doctors and nurses are choosing to stay in health care Advocates of Health Care reform often talk about patient-centered care and cost reduction yet a key component is missing: restoring medical staff satisfaction and preventing burnout. In surveys when patients were polled about the most important thing they wanted in a physician or healthcare provider was, time with their doctor. Effective time management strategies can go a long way towards collaborative care and promoting both patient and staff satisfaction.
