Then suddenly he felt the rush of someone else's heartbeat. He cautiously, but very swiftly rotated his head to the right. That is the moment he spotted them. Fortunately, they had not crossed him yet. He sprinted home to inform his pregnant wife. He did not even have enough time to stop to warn any of the other settlers. However, before, they did not think twice about moving in and starting a village. They did not think through many of the consequences of barging in on someone else's property and starting a new life. William E. Collings was the man behind the Pigeon Roost Settlement. He travelled to Southern Indiana from Kentucky in 1809 with many other settlers. When the settlement was first founded, it was named for all of the pigeons nesting in the area. After word of the attack spread, many people from surrounding settlements started worrying about the power the Native Americans held. While the Pigeon Roost Massacre was occurring, the people living in the community were petrified with pure fear. One of the most terrifying records of the Pigeon Roost Massacre was from Mrs. Jane Collings Biggs, the sister of William Collings. At the time of the attack, Mrs. Biggs and her three children were in the woods searching for their cow. Mrs. Biggs heard the scream of the Indians and knew they were attacking the village. Apparently, her baby sensed the fear in the air too, because it started to
