The best way to start this look is with clean hair. Wash hair with your normal shampoo and conditioner, and then towel dry until it is only semi-damp. Apply a frizz-fighting crème, and proceed to blow dry hair straight.

Gather the essential pin-curl materials: setting lotion, bobby pins and a rat tail comb. Make sure that you place your pins in an easily accessible place, preferably in front of a mirror.

Begin by applying a bit of setting lotion to a one-inch section of hair; this will make strands malleable, and more likely to hold a curl. Wrap the ends of the hair around two fingers, circling twice. Proceed to roll the hair up towards the scalp in a tight loop. Be sure to loop the hair in a circle without actually twisting the hair itself, as twisting the strands can affect the integrity of the curl.

Once you have rolled the hair all the way up to the scalp, gently secure the curl with two bobby pins, crossing over the loop of hair in an “x” pattern.

Repeat the process until you have pinned the entire head of hair. Wrap a silk scarf around your head and apply gentle heat to the hair, using a blow dryer on the lowest setting.
