In the instructional satire, “How to Escape from a Bad Date” by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht, the authors taunt people who run away from their problems rather than facing them. Piven and Borgenicht use compare and contrast to show that the text is being very direct and giving specific instructions in order to be persuasive. The compare and contrast mocks the reasoning behind why people run away from their problems. They ridicule people the people who run away because while it may be effective in the moment, there can be repercussions to the actions that the person is taking.
