1. Aim/Scope
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 specify the precautions to be taken against the danger of death or personal injury arising from the use of electricity during work activities. They state that in relation to the use of electrical equipment 'all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger'.
The Regulations apply to all employers and others responsible for, or using, electrical systems and equipment. Everyone must do all they can to ensure that equipment is in a safe condition at all times; that a programme of regular inspection and maintenance is carried out; and that records are kept to show that this work has been performed
