The Impact of English Loanwords on Russian Language

...The impact of English loanwords on the Russian lexis for the recent decades Introduction Russian people for a long time have been involved into the political, commercial, scientific and cultural relations with other nations. At the same time the Russian language has been replenished with words from other languages. Loanwords from ancient languages Greek and Latin, words from Dutch, German, Polish, Ukraine and other languages mastered the Russian language in different historical periods without prejudice to its national identity, but rather enriched and expanded its range. Those words named new things, products, concepts, etc. Russian language vocabulary contains approximately 10% of borrowed words, most of which are nouns (Proshina (2006). Among those borrowings are many words from the English language. The most considerable penetration of English words in Russian language is observed in the late 80's - 90's of the last century with changes in political, economic, cultural and moral orientation of society. The Reconstruction and the collapse of Soviet Union have brought considerable changes both as in foreign policy relations so as in the lexical sphere of Russian language. This period is characterized by the democratization of the socialist governance of the country to the Western model. The reconstruction in the political structure of governance had played an important role in the appearance of words such as: president, vice-president, minister, prime-minister, mayor...

Hello Ppl of the World

...A Guide to Spanish Coursework – Page 1 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Doing coursework in Spanish is quite different from the coursework you will meet in your other subjects: • Spanish coursework is likely to be shorter • your whole Spanish class will probably do the same coursework task at the same time • you might not be given a choice of task in your Spanish coursework Below are the questions most frequently asked about doing coursework in Spanish. How much coursework do I have to do? You must submit three pieces of coursework on different topics. You should aim to do at least 4 or 5 different pieces of coursework so you can choose the three best at the end of year 11. When will I be doing my Spanish coursework? You can do your coursework at any point during your GCSE course. Most teachers time a piece of coursework to come at the end of a particular topic which prepares you well for that piece of writing. How long is the coursework? Not very – about 100-150 words per piece on average How much time do I get to spend on each piece? Your teacher will let you know this, but it might vary from one piece to another. Can I ask my teacher to extend the deadline? You shouldn’t need too long a deadline to write just 100 words! It is in your interest to do the coursework while all the relevant vocabulary is fresh in your mind. Also, your teacher might have to get the coursework marked and sorted by a certain date so they might not be able to extend the...

Jejemon Fever

...http://jejedex.blogspot.com/2010/06/jejemon-history-how-it-all-began.html Jejemon History: How It All Began Several years ago, a lot of the youth joined text messaging clans while others played online MMORPG games like Ragnarok, Flyff, and Gunbound. Some, with the urge to find and get to know people of all ages online, joined in social networks like Friendster and Multiply. At that time, Friendster was in while Facebook was not what it turned out to be at present. Due to the necessity of having to relay a message abruptly so as not to be delayed in action (while playing, texting or commenting), they tried to make messages they type really short to an extent that every word was internally altered using numbers to creatively displace letters that would still make the words readable. Of course, Jejemonism was not that intense and obvious at that time. It took a longer time before the more educated ones realized that something's not right and one thing has to be done - to abide by what is being conventionally dictated by society. At that moment, many of the younger generation became adapted to this kind of typing style for they really thought that it was somehow cool, manageable and widely accepted within their age range. It was the new hip at that time, but as it grew out of nowhere, concerned academic people took this as a threat to the educational standards. In time, Jejemonism became the latest source of boiling social debates. As time propelled and confusion arose, people...
