There are resources for birth control, pregnant women, women who breastfeed, babies, small children, and women who are pregnant and at risk. Legislation that is passed tends to hurt women more than men. We need to value low-income women as much as we do other people. A person’s personal views should not affect legislation. Teenage girls need to think long and hard before having babies. The two men who had babies in Britain are able to care for their children and I am sure they will be wonderful parents. ...Planned Parenthood turned one hundred years old last year in October. Throughout the years with the presence of this organization, Planned Parenthood has made history with their struggles and triumphs. But despite all of that Planned Parenthood still stands as the most trusted reproductive health provider, and benefits our society in a unique way. There is some controversy over the Planned Parenthood topic. It may be seen as a sinful abortion distributer to some, and a great benefit that helps people with low income to others. Ways for the low income population to acquire sexual healthcare services are dwindling. Planned Parenthood is the main organization that gives access to low cost professional health care services to those low income...

...“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” –Martin Luther King Jr. Planned Parenthood is losing federal funding because of cases dealing with legal safety standards, fraud, and the illegal selling of infant body parts. Planned Parenthood in Texas has opted the easy way out, by simply closing down. It seems that closing down is much more convenient for this organization that is just so committed to “women’s health”. So committed in fact, that they allowed something as simple as their sterilization issues to shut them down. Instead of mitigating the problem by focusing their energy on cleaning the facility up and righting their wrongs, they abandoned the women in which they claim to care so much about. As a facility in which women...

...Planned Parenthood provides reproductive health services to men and women worldwide. Planned Parenthood also helps patients who have cancer and STDs. Taking Planned Parenthood away will impact many internationally because a lot of people benefit from it. While many are against abortion and birth control it should not be taken away from women, who have the right to abort and take birth control which many times is taken for health issues. The choice to abort should be a decision between the doctor and the patient. Not the government. However not many people see it that way saying not too long ago an anti-abortion man by the name of Robert Dear attacked a Planned Parenthood clinic, killing three and injuring...

...Visiting Planned Parenthood, I realized they offer many choices of contraceptives. From one time use condoms, to permanent sterilization. Depending on a person’s sex life and personal preference there are contraceptive options for everyone. The IUD, Intrauterine Device, is inserted into the uterus of a female by her clinician. The IUD contains copper that keep sperm from joining the egg. However, not affective against sexually transmitted infection, it is considered 99.2-99.8% effective against pregnancy. There are currently two different IUD’s available at Planned Parenthood, one is ParaGard (copper IUD) that can be left in place for up to 12 years, the other is Mirena (hormone based IUD) which can be left in place for five years. Progestin-only methods use a hormone similar to the progesterone made by a woman’s ovaries to prevent ovulation, thicken the cervical mucus to prevent sperm from joining an egg, and may also prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to...

Davis was brought up in an all white neighborhood where segregation was seen in every part of her life. She learned at an early age about racism and the implications that came along with being black. Her high school and college years were filled with many accomplishments. In high school Davis got the opportunity to study at Elizabeth Irwin High School in New York City where she gained an interest in both socialist and communist philosophies. ...Running head: COMMUNITY HEALTH ANALYSIS PART II Community Health Analysis Part II Patricia Thomas Thomas Edison State College Public Health Nursing NUR-443-NU001 Betty Daniels December 6, 2014 Community Health Analysis Part II Gap in Care or Service In Part I of my Community Health Analysis project I identified that the teenage pregnancy rate for the community of Asbury Park was more than twice that of the state, or nationally: Mother’s Age Live Births | Asbury Park2010 | NJ2010 | US2010 | 14 – 19 | 9.2% | 3.5% | 3.4% | As the Community Public Health Nurse, this is a topic I am going to try to tackle as I feel teen pregnancies have a snowball effect on the teen as well as the entire community. According to a government publication called Find Youth Info, only fifty percent of teen mothers have a high school diploma or GED, compared with ninety percent of adolescents who did not give birth; only ten percent had a two or four year college degree, and; teen fathers had a thirty percent lower incidence of graduating from high school than those that are not fathers (“Teen Pregnancy“, 2014, p. 1). Additionally, a sexually active teen increases their risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, and the pregnant teen may encounter health risks and complications due to the pregnancy. The children born to teen mothers are also at a disadvantage from the start. They have a higher risk of (“Teen Pregnancy“, p. 1): - Infant mortality. - Lower birth rate....

...OB/Peds March 11, 2014 Community Resources Paper The Risks and Education of Teenage Pregnancy The at-risk group that I chose to research is teenage pregnancy, and the education and risks associated with it. I selected this topic because I feel like it is essential to teach our children all the risk and responsibilities that come with the decision to become sexually active, before they become sexually active. If teens are taught the essentials about pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and are educated on the resources available, they will be able to make an informed decision before making a crucial decision. I feel that when abstinence is all that is taught by parents, our children are too scared to ask about sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, and don’t know about the resources available to them to prevent both. Teenagers who are sexually active have no idea all of the different resources available to help them to prevent pregnancy and spreading sexually transmitted infections. When they become sexually active they are afraid that they are going to get in trouble for not being abstinent which further increases their chance of getting pregnant or spreading infections because they are too scared to ask about it before they put themselves in the situation. Among the most conservative states I found the following. “Mississippi continues to have the highest teeth birth rate, with 55 births per 1,000 girls. New Hampshire...

...With sex education becoming a controversial topic in the United States education programs, you cannot help but wonder; if this is truly helping prevent teen pregnancy. Over the last decade, teen pregnancy has increased in the United States, and has affected society socially, educational and economically. What programs have been put in place to decrease these statistics? How is this effecting the United States overall? In this paper I will discuss how it not only affects society, but also the teen parent, child, and society. Every year in the United States more than one million teens become pregnant in the United States. Of these one million pregnancies more than 500,000 babies are born to teen parents. This means that everyday at least 3,000 teens become pregnant. Nevada is ranked number one for pregnancies among ages 15-19. The rates of live births in Nevada for women ages 15-19, ranks Nevada at number 8 (Guttmacher Institute, U.S. Teenage Pregnancy Statistics National and State Trends and Trends by Race and Ethnicity, September 2006). With these shocking statistics you cannot help but wonder, what are we as a society doing to help prevent this major issue? Schools have placed sex education classes as an elective class that students are allowed to take to inform themselves on prevention and safe sex. Teenage pregnancy is a pregnancy of a female that is under the age of 20 when the pregnancy ends. Generally a teen pregnancy is unplanned, nor is the mother married...

... Master Thesis Master of Sciences in Marketing Author: Supervisor: Sandra Denise Kunz Petersen Jessica Aschemann-Witzel EXECUTIVE SUMMARY PURPOSE – The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the changes in diet and eating behavior women experience during the transition to motherhood, the underlying influencing factors, as well as their self-developed coping strategies, in order to devise recommendations for the public and private sector to support the adaption and maintenance of healthy eating habits during this transition. METHOD – A life course perspective was adopted and behavioral change models, used in health-related research, applied. In addition, the data of 18 qualitative e-mail interviews with German mothers was analyzed by means of qualitative content analysis. FINDINGS – The transition to parenthood represents an important life event that can be divided into several phases, each of which is characterized by a range of distinct changes in women’s eating behavior and influencing factors thereof. Women develop coping strategies to face these challenges, but are still found to lack perceived behavioral control and self-efficacy and are confronted with perceived barriers, all of which keeps them from adopting or maintaining optimal eating behaviors during the transition, despite of good intentions and favorable attitudes. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS – The findings suggest that measures should be taken by both the public sector as well as the private food...

...Research Paper on legalized abortion In 1973 the Supreme Court ruled on a landmark case, Roe v. Wade. The case involved (Roe) a single pregnant woman who wished to obtain an abortion in the State of Texas. She brought a class action challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws. The law makes it criminal for all abortions except when medically advised for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. Jane Roe sought an abortion because she was unmarried and pregnant and felt she should be able to receive a legal abortion by a licensed physician. The court’s decision has created a controversy in the United States that continues today. There is no other ruling that divides so many Americans by religious beliefs, family values, society as a whole and politics as the abortion ruling. The ruling came about based on numerous arguments revolving around the history of abortion laws, whether abortion should be protected under the right to privacy and whether the decision of abortion should be between the mother and the attending physician. The court ruled that the right to personal privacy includes the abortion decision. The court found that an abortion statute that forbids all abortions except in the case of a life saving procedure on behalf of the mother is unconstitutional based upon the right to privacy. However, it does allow for regulation of abortion when the statute is narrowly tailored to uphold a compelling state interest, such as the health...
