...Discharge planning is a process that aims to improve the coordination of services after discharge from hospital by considering the patient’s needs in the community. It seeks to bridge the gap between hospital and the place to which the patient is discharged, reduce length of stay in hospital, and minimise unplanned readmission to hospital.1 Discharge planning is an established part of hospital care, but the process varies and is not entirely evidenced based. A Cochrane review analysed 11 randomised controlled trials looking at discharge planning in over 5000 patients and failed to show a reduction in mortality among elderly medical patients, lower readmission rates, or a shorter length of hospital stay.1 However, two trials in the review did report greater satisfaction of patients and carers when discharge planning was used.2 3 The Cochrane review concluded that discharge planning remains important as a small improvement, not detected by the studies performed so far, could still yield highly significant gains in health care with huge resource implications and better use of acute hospital beds.1 Unfortunately, none of the included trials assessed communication with primary care staff about patient transfer of care. This is an important aspect of discharge planning and another potentially important advantage for patients. On a patient’s initial contact with health services, discharge planning should be started.4 This is often difficult to achieve when acutely unwell patients...

...IEOR 4000: Production Management 1 page 1 Professor Guillermo Gallego Material Requirements Planning (MRP) Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is a computer-based production planning and inventory control system. MRP is concerned with both production scheduling and inventory control. It is a material control system that attempts to keep adequate inventory levels to assure that required materials are available when needed. MRP is applicable in situations of multiple items with complex bills of materials. MRP is not useful for job shops or for continuous processes that are tightly linked. The major objectives of an MRP system are to simultaneously: 1. Ensure the availability of materials, components, and products for planned production and for customer delivery, 2. Maintain the lowest possible level of inventory, 3. Plan manufacturing activities, delivery schedules, and purchasing activities. MRP is especially suited to manufacturing settings where the demand of many of the components and subassemblies depend on the demands of items that face external demands. Demand for end items are independent. In contrast, demand for components used to manufacture end items depend on the demands for the end items. The distinctions between independent and dependent demands are important in classifying inventory items and in developing systems to manage items within each demand classification. MRP systems were developed to cope better with dependent demand items. ...

...Marketing Mix Paper Artur Khachatryan MKT/421 01/30/2012 Robert Stack Marketing Mix Paper It is critical for any agency, firm or business to measure the performance in each field that it is involved in. While it may seem that measuring the success of any business can be done by looking at the financial statements, in order to truly succeed in any industry the performance of each task should be measured constantly. Performance measurements can greatly benefit any kind of organization that is seeking profit. Based on the results after each measurement, the firm can figure out a specific strategy that will help to accomplish goals more efficiently. Depending on what needs to be measured, there are different measuring methods available. The fields that usually require an additional measurement in order the see the performance of the business are financial performances, competitiveness, innovation, quality of service and even flexibility. Those can be measured by looking at profitability, relative market growth, reliability, and market ratios. For most project managers, the performance of their employees plays the most significant role in any task. Therefore, knowing how to measure worker’s performance in projects is vital. Also, in many corporations, the employees depend on each other in order to fully complete a specific task, which leads them to work in teams. When a project is done in teams it becomes much more difficult for the manager to figure out the exact work...

...And, many monstrous favorite video games, inviting them to have fun killing in cold blood, brutally gunning their contenders, having cyber sex, etc. It seems that, without realizing, the children are training to enjoy all sorts of outrages perpetrated. The real and virtue violence, not only morally deformed our children but, more seriously, dehumanizes both death and human suffering. In ''No Country for Old Men'' we can see how Chigurh kills his victims in cold blood, without feeling any remorse,'' he had been plannin to kill somebody for about as long as he could remember'' (p.3). When children witness or participate pretending to be violent, their chances of exercising the same forms of aggression with those around them are duplicated. Indeed, it has been seen that being often exposed or starring as players a variety of gruesome crimes, children are desensitized to the suffering of others and lose the ability to take pity on them, so they are able to attack them violently almost without realizing the seriousness of what they do. I have no doubt that the moral agony brought by the culture of immorality and violence in which the new generations are growing is the main responsible for the brutality among our...

...Cost: The importance of cost is low. Because of their technical excellence and their excellent research and development exercises the customer is willing to pay a higher price, which counterbalances the high cost. Dependability: Customers do not mind waiting for three months but they expect timely delivery. Therefore, DM needs to provide this level of reliability to the customers. Speed: Significance of speed is low. From the placement of order it takes up to 3 months to deliver the final product. The customer is ready to wait for 3 months for the product. Quality: Significant importance which they ensure through their strict quality assurance process. Flexibility: Need to focus on flexibility because there exists a high level of customisation. Around 70 per cent of all orders involved some form of customisation from standard ‘base models’. New Strategy: Cost: Importance to cost is comparatively more since the customers are provided with standardized products which have close substitutes. Dependability: Customers are not ready to wait for delivery of standardized products. Speed: The speed to manufacture is required to be higher for standardize products. Customers are not ready to wait; hence speed should be given greater importance. Quality: DM lays emphasis on quality as it focuses on technical excellence and expresses concern about the quality of suppliers. Flexibility: There is a high level of standardization which leads to low importance of flexibility...

...----------------------- Energy Trace Barrier Analysis (ETBA) – Qualitative analysis technique used to identify hazards by tracing energy flow into, thru, & out of a system. “Energy hazard” is defind as an energy source tht adversely impacts an unprotectd or vulnerable target. Assessment is conductd by following the energy path to determine if adequate controls are in place to assure undesird energy release does not occur.– Energy flow is tracd through the system operation & energy transfer points are identifid– Barriers to ento energy flow are evaluatd to determine adequacy • ETBA process can be applied at any stage of the project lifecycle & can be very useful for:– Systems design –Developing procedures(e.g., lockout--‐tagout). – Planning/judging operational readiness. – During mishap investigation or making “safe--‐to--‐enter” decisions at mishap sites. ETBA Approach • Examine system & identify all energy sources • For each energy source, trace its path through the system • Identify all targets tht could be vulnerable to the energy source • Identify all barriers in the energy flow path • Determine if existing controls are adequate. Energy Source– any material, mechanism, or process tht contains potential energy tht can be releasd •Electrical •Mechanical •Chemical •Radiation• Sonic• Thermal• Nuclear• Pneumatic• Hydraulic• Others Energy barrier --‐ any design or administrative method tht prevents energy from being releasd or prevents a hazardous energy source from reaching a...

...Integrative Paper 13 Oct 14 Working in a bureaucratic organization of 182,000 active component Marines, the institution inevitably is slow and lethargic. It takes many supervisors, managers, and leaders too tackle large scale problems and years developing solutions to the problems. The Marine Corps has developed many formulas and models to attack such problems. These formulas and models reengineered a strategy by streamlining, integrating, and transforming a process to eliminate waste, delays, and slow response time (Ivancevich, p. 518). These processes allow for individual commanders to adjust unit approach to still meet the objectives and intent without endangering the Marine Corps strategic message and vision. Over the next seven pages, I have taken Kotter’s eight step process and incorporated them into my experience to how The Heart of Change theme and reasoning influenced my expected behavior as a manager in the Marine Corps. Increase Urgency While working as a staff officer in a higher level command the sense of urgency is slow and unwilling to change. The typical expression you hear in the office spaces at a higher level headquarters, “is if you want change throw money at it to continue research”. The expression only proves the lack of change that occurs within the organization. Though the expression does provide humor, however, it really does not accomplish the task at hand for change. The idea for change is to focus on maximizing worker output. Conducting...
