He has one month to cogitate a plan of action to present at the executives meeting in March. Problem Definition The Playa Dorada Tennis Club is currently facing two key problems which are court capacity and pricing structure. These two difficulties carry their own set of underlying problems which makes it harder for them to be solved. The financial aspect of PD Tennis has yet to see profit, and it cannot be discontinued because it is one of the main attractions for the resort guests. Thus, Douglas Hall has to develop an efficient pricing strategy that will generate positive turnover for the club. He must also find a way to increase court capacity as the demand to play tennis continues to grow. Currently PD Tennis has 23 courts available; however, PD Resort is in its final stages of constructing new villas at the resort. (See Case.) This...

...MKTG 6218 Section #1 Marketing in the Service Sector Week #4 Assignment #1; Case Study #2 Playa Dorada Tennis Club: Expansion Strategy Submitted by: Jesse Felix 8/14/13 With the guest population at the Playa Dorada Beach & Resort expected to double and the popularity of tennis on the rise, Douglas Hall and the club are faced with a seasonal demand for tennis courts. His dilemma to resolve insufficient capacity issues is coupled with the challenge of making all organizational departments such as marketing, finance, and operations satisfied at the same time. He needs to create an expansion plan to address these concerns during peak seasons as many guests are starting to become discouraged by their inability to play. Since holding off with expansion is not an option Douglas needs to decide whether to build additional courts immediately or look for short term solutions to resolve the inefficient use of space while the long-term expansion plans are being created. Each option comes with a different expense and he needs to calculate the benefits with the risks of each option. In addition to the expansion decision, Douglas also needs to find a way to boost the attractiveness of tennis services in hopes that guests will be interested in purchasing real estate. Since Playa Dorada uses tennis as a key selling feature, it is important that this program is offering the best service available. While plans to expand the resort and add additional tennis facilities to new areas...

...MYSTERY OF MYSTERY Sliding stones Even NASA cannot explain it. It’s best to gaze in wonder at the sliding rocks on this dry lake bed in Death Valley National Park. Racetrack Playa is almost completely flat, 2.5 miles from north to south and 1.25 miles from east to west, and covered with cracked mud. The rocks, some weighing hundreds of pounds, slide across the sediment, leaving furrows in their wakes, but no one has actually witnessed it. 9. Kuldhara — Rajasthan (Ghost Town) village of Kuldhara is a ghost village that has been abandoned since 1800s. It is said to carry a curse of the villagers who migrated to other places. Kuldhara lies about 15 Km west of Jaisalmer in western Rajasthan. The village now lies in ruins. The village was established in 1291 by the Paliwal Brahmins, who were a very prosperous clan and were known for their business acumen and agricultural knowledge. But one night in 1825 all the people in Kuldhara and nearby 83 villages vanished in dark. According to folklore, Salim Singh, the minister of the state, once visiting this village fell for the beautiful daughter of chieftain (Paliwal Brahmin) and wanted to marry her. The minister threatened the villagers that if they did not marry the girl to him, he would levy huge taxes. The chief of the village with those of other 83 adjoining villages decided to abandon and migrate elsewhere as against marrying the girl to Salim Singh. Nobody saw them leave nor did anyone figure where they went, they simply...

...Veronica Caruso Cozumel: A Paradise Worthy of a Visit I have been fortunate to recently travel to faraway places like India, Argentina, England, Germany and Mexico due to my husband’s job. One of the places that caught my attention was the island of Cozumel. Cozumel, part of Mexico, is located on the eastern coast of the Yucatan’s Peninsula in the Caribbean Sea between Playa del Carmen and Cuba. The island, contrasting the endless blue of the Caribbean Sea along the coast with the emerald green of the tropical jungle, is the most beautiful and warmhearted place to visit in Mexico. When I think about a vacation, I look for an all-inclusive resort with outstanding customer service, a place with a variety of activities to explore, and a downtown area for shopping with fine and casual dining; the island of Cozumel offers all of these. The Palace Hotel is an all-inclusive resort with outstanding customer service. The staff at the hotel is friendly and offers exceptional service at all times. From the moment I got off the plane until I arrived to the hotel, everything was done for me. The taxi driver, who greeted me at the airport, knew my name and my hotel destination. At the hotel, I was welcomed by the receptionist with a fresh rose and a wet, warm towel so I could refresh myself. Wherever I went and whatever I asked for, I was greeted with a smile and friendly attitude. The hotel accommodations far exceeded anything I ever imagined...

Situated on the Maya Reef, which is the second largest reef in the world, it draws divers from all over the world who are attracted to the underground gardens and warm, clear waters. With the concept of destination weddings and wedding photography and videography gaining widespread popularity, many couples are opting for destination weddings where they can invite their close friends and family to spend what will be the most beautiful day of their lives at an exotic location. Inarguably, a beach destination wedding tops the fantasy list of most wedding planners. With a stunning expanse of white sand beaches, lush gardens, breathtaking sunsets and exquisite turquoise water, Cancun Beaches are the perfect backdrop for your romantic destination wedding. At Cancun, You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a resort with the best wedding package that suits your style. ...Hotels I Love: Rosewood Mayakoba, Mexico Larry Olmsted , CONTRIBUTOR I travel to learn, eat, golf and ski, but mostly for travel’s sake Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own. I firmly believe that Mexico’s Riviera Maya (or Mayan Riviera), is one of the world’s great travel destinations. I have been to the region many times, and stayed in a lot of different resorts, and I think the best luxury hotel is the Rosewood Mayakoba. For readers unfamiliar with this recurring column, here is the three sentence lowdown: I travel a great deal and stay in many exceptional hotels worldwide, but only the very best make the cut for Hotels I Love. In almost every case these are properties I have visited multiple times over a period of years, so I know great service was not a fluke. It’s not “Hotels I Like,” or even “Hotels I Really Like,” and I only manage to find a few each year that qualify – they have to be that good. With most of the country caught in an exceptionally bitter winter of much lower than normal temperatures and storm after storm, sunny Mexico has never looked better. But the Riviera Maya, on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, is especially appealing, and truly offers something for every taste. This 80-mile stretch of gorgeous coastline is situated immediately south of the excellent and easy to reach Cancun airport, away from often tacky Cancun itself, stretching south to the world famous ancient ruins of Tulum – the only Mayan city built on...

...Some could say that a 10-day music festival could be their ultimate fantasy dream party. Others could argue that they would rather do anything else in the world than to attend a 10-day party. However, myself and over 55,000 party attendees can argue that this is the ultimate entertainment event to attend right after ringing in the new year, but how does one prepare for the 10-day party? Since the BPM takes place in paradise, with white sand beaches, crystal clear water and romance novel cover-worthy sunrises are just a few traits that make Playa Del Carmen one of the most magical places to hold a multi-day music festival (Venzin). With over 400 artists from all over the world BPM invites to play their passionate music for their beloved listeners while they themselves are enjoying the festival with their friends. Beach parties, musical artists, thousands of party goers, friends from all over the world, sunsets and sunrises, here are some...

...Introduction Playa Dorada Tennis Club is part of a larger supply network of Playa Dorada, Inc. (PD Inc.) whose most profitable business is selling and managing real estate near their hotel and spa resorts. The tennis club focused on in the case serves as one of the many incentives for customers to vacation at or buy property from PD Inc. Douglass Hall, the tennis director has the responsibility of creating an expansion plan to address the insufficient capacity of the tennis courts. He needs to set both short-term and long-term solutions for the tennis facility and satisfy his colleagues in Marketing, Operations and Finance. One of Hall’s main challenges, in both the near and distant future, is to increase capacity utilization by smoothing the extreme peaks of demand for court space created daily and seasonally by the muggy Florida weather. The number of resort guests is expected to double, so there is a severe need to expand the current court capacity. Not only is the popularity of tennis continuing to increase, but customers are not happy with the current court capacity as they are facing difficulties in reserving court time. By forecasting court hours used/guest night per a moving average (Exhibit 1) and the demand & capacity (Exhibit 2) one can see there is a need for additional capacity. It is recommended to manage the current court capacity of the March-April 2007 season by adjusting demand, however for the peak season of 2008 four courts should be added. Short term...
