What makes us feel good about our work? Dan Ariely presentation about “what makes us feel good about our work” explained what motivated and inspired people to work hard. Meaning is what pushes people to work hard and love what they do, so people need to find the meaning for their work to understand and love what they do. As Dan explained meaning is equal to motivation in the revised model of labor, and people can give more at work when they find the meaning. Motivation is not about payment is also includes more things such as meaning, ownership and pride. Positive things about the presentation: * Challenge and fight motivate people to work hard. * People look for the meaning when they work. * Legos example explained the point of meaning and motivation. * Meaning can increase the work efficiency and performance. * Meaning motivate people to love the work. * Care and pay attention for people motivate people for better performance. * Adding motivation is not that difficult to do at work.
Negative things about the presentation: * Depression is a result of ignoring people work. * Eliminating motivation is bad for people performance. * Workers come to the work late and leave early as result of depression from the CEO. * Student felt sad and frustrated after worked hard but the project cancelled. * People would quit or feel bad when don’t find meaning for their work. * Ignoring people work can lead people to cheat in the future.
Interesting things about the presentation: * Motivation can be simple things to either increased or decreased people feelings. * Motivation is not only payment, can also be meaning and pride. * Using many examples and pictures for the presentation was interesting * IKEA and the cake showed the meaning for positive motivation to make people proud of build or make something. * Builders love their work and think people also love it as the origami example. * People usually love things they made and feel they spent time and work to be done. They think is worth more value.

In the conclusion, meaning of the work lead people to feel good about their work, pay attention and caring as well can motivate people to work hard and show better performance.
Simple things can motivate people either for positive or negative feeling, for example ignoring people can lead to depression such as the story of the student who worked hard but the professor canceled the project. Positive motivation such as IKEA, make people build the furniture to feel like they made it. So, people would love the work when they find the meaning, some people love challenge and adventures even its hard and difficult, such as people who climbed mountains to reach the peek, when in fact climbed the mountain is not funny at all, but the motivation is to deal with challenges. Motivation is not only money, can be also pride, meaning, ownership etc. people love their work and usually evaluate their work more than other, and think people would love their work as well. As Dan explained the origami builders they were able to pay more for their work more than other people, and the cake company took out the milk and eggs from the flour, when they found people don’t feel they make their own cake. So, appreciation for people work can be motivation for people to give better performance, while ignoring lead to depression such as the example Dan said about the workers in the company as a result of depression they come late and leave early for the work. So, is the same between builders and evaluators, builders would pay more for their work, while evaluators would pay less.
Meaningful work is a motivation for people to keep working, but when people find there is no meaning for their work they might quit or feel depression. Karl Marx theory of meaning shows that there should be a connection between worker and big production to be able to make better performance, while in other hand, Adam Smith efficiency theory is more workers is better for faster production. So, labor motivation can be payment, pride, ownership, creation and challenge
etc.
