The first pokemon games released in america were Pokémon red and Pokemon green, in 1996. The cards started to be produced and stocked for about 4 months in 1995. Pokemon is a japanese franchise shipped to america and sponsored by a very prestigious company called Gamefreak, and another that is well known, Nintendo. The games were released for the gameboy, a slightly old game system that many today consider mediocre compared to the highly technologic 3DS and 2DS. The pokemon company had its cards sponsored by a company that is known as Creatures and also says 1999 Wizards as a sponsor at the bottom of the cards released in 1995 through 1998. This term wasn't recognized by gamefreak until the third generation of pokemon and wasn't actually used in the game until Pokemon black and Pokemon white came out, where in a city, an "ace trainer" mentions his shiny pokemon, called a Krokorok, the evolution of Sandile, and the pre-evolution of Krookodile. Not only were shiny pokemon different in the intro, they also seemed to have colour differences, some pokemon in shiny form were just a deeper shade than normal, and others, such as mewtwo, completely change in colour. For example, a shiny mewtwo is green, giving it the strong impression of an alien, while an average mewtwo is pink. Eevees, which are normally brown, become a pink, white, or gray, depending on the way you look at them. An example was when players were able to let Magikarp, near useless pokemon that evolves into a monsterous leviathan called gyarados, learn a move called "dragon rage". Dragon rage was a dragon type move that always did 40 damage to the target when the attack landed, no matter what. Only around an estimate of 20 people in america are still in possession of these rare magikarp. This doesn't include hackers or cheaters. A semi-recent event that went on in 2013-2014 was in pokemon black two and pokemon white two versions. People got a "mystery gift" that contained a mythical pokemon that was also a special event in the third generation, around 2002. This pokemon was called Deoxys. This deoxys can learn moves it normally would never learn, and was already the maximum level, lv.100. Before deoxys came Keldeo, the colt pokemon, which was the fourth member of the group of horse and stag-like pokemon. Obtained at level 50, keldeo was un-able to be traded over internet, but could still be trade via infared, and other means of trading, as long as you were doing it directly to the other
