Yoo what is going on guys my name is mew2fannate and today I am bringing you my first speculation video regarding potential Mega Evolutions for the new Pokémon games coming out later this year.
Considering the titles of these new games, are Pokémon Sun and Moon, I think it might be appropriate to look at Pokémon that utilize the Sun stone and Moon stone to evolve. We will be looking at how this can impact the game from a competitive standpoint and we will be rating on a scale of 1 to 10 each individual mega on how likely game freak would make this go from speculation to reality. Now let’s get into it!
The first Pokémon on our list evolves using the Sun Stone. Sunflora is a Pokémon from gen 2 that overall below average stats, but what hurts this Pokémon a lot is that it is a grass type with a horrible speed stat of just base 30. I personally don’t even see a mega evolution helping this Pokémon unless it is granted a new typing. I might like to see sunflora get a secondary fire typing through mega evolution. Granted it doesn’t have access to any fire type moves up to 6th gen, gen 7 might go ahead change that up and give it access to flamethrower or fire blast. I’d say a mega evolution for sunflora with a new fire typing and some boosted stats could bump it up to the RU tier due to being able to take a hit much better and access to more coverage. As for my opinion in possibility of this happening let’s give it a 4/10.
The 2nd Pokémon we will be looking at utilizes the Moon stone for evolution. Wigglytuff was a Pokémon that I always wanted to be better. 6th gen tried helping it out a little bit by giving this old Pokémon a new secondary fairy typing, but this Pokémon has some below average stats. Besides from the ridiculously high base HP stat of 140 there just isn’t too much going for it Stat-wise. Wigglytuff has a solid ability in competitive and This is pretty disappointing considering Wigglytuff has such a huge move pool to choose from. A mega evolution would really allow this cute pink ball of blubber to reach massive potential. 6/10
The next Pokémon we will be looking at also utilizes the Moon Stone to evolve. The Pokémon Clefable is a Pokémon that doesn’t really need a mega evolution to be viable. It has some really nice defensive stats, access to some great abilities in Magic Guard and Unaware which really makes it difficult to set up and sweep or stall this thing out. If Clefable were to get a mega evolution, I don’t see it being used any differently than it already is, although if it were to get a decent boost in its attack stat with maybe a more offensive ability I can see it being ran as a mixed attacker. It has access to moves such as drain punch, meteor mash, Zen head-butt and the rest of the elemental punches which I’d like to see it be used more often without being too broken. Likeliness of the mega- 5/10
The next Pokémon we will talk about evolves via sun stone. The Pokémon Bellossom is a Pokémon with huge potential for mega evolution, and its stats are solid all around. The one thing really holding it back is its lousy speed stat. Now if Bellossom were to mega evolve it can potentially fix this problem. Bellossom has access to a half decent form of speed control in stun spore, crippling its opponents speed to 25% of what it was. The mega evolution might allow Bellossom to become tankier than it already is and dish back more powerful hits. – I’m going to rate this 3/10 just because I feel as though they can’t give a mega to Bellossom without Vileplume.
The next pokemon also evolves via Sun stone and this pokemon is also one of my favorite pokemon from the Kalos region. That’s right Heliolisk is pokemon with high special attack and great speed. It has powerful stab options with hyper voice and thunderbolt and coverage options such as surf. Heliolisk has some handy abilities backing it up in Dry Skin, Solar Power, and in sand veil as well. Giving this thing a mega might even make it stronger than the current mega Manetric but even better due to the fact it won’t have to rely on hidden power ice to hit the ground types that like to block volt switches. The fact that this thing legit looks like a sun when it attacks and there are no Kalos Pokémon to have mega evolutions gives a bit better rating in my likeliness opinion so we will go ahead and rate this 7/10
The next pokemon that we will be looking at that evolves via moonstone is Delcatty. Now this pokemon overall is incredibly weak. It has some cool moves such as fake out, sucker punch, and access to great coverage moves such as Zen Headbutt, ice beam, and thunderbolt, but its stats are really low that it doesn’t even matter. None of its base stats are over 70. It has no really useful abilities with normalize and wonderskin being the main ones I can see people using. Giving a mega to this might be able to improve it somewhat. But I don’t even see the point of giving this thing a mega evolution when we just had the ORAS remakes. If they were going to give it a mega they should have done it by now – rate on the chance they are going to do this .01 /10 just for the benefit of the doubt
Another pokemon that evolves using the moonstone is, Musharna. Musharna is the only pokemon from 5th gen that evolves from the Moonstone and is a pokemon that I actually like a lot. It is like a less bulky version of cresselia. It has great bulk to it, with lots of coverage moves, access to Healing wish, Moonlight and even baton pass which is nice because you could potentially set up a calm mind and baton pass, or a curse and baton pass. The only thing they can do to make this pokemon better is to give it a buff in its stats. Musharna is a pokemon that is slow but works in Trick room pretty well, so it isn’t complete crippled by being a slow and frail pokemon. The likeliness of this pokemon getting a mega? Lets give it a 6.5 out of 10 because I feel like 5th generation of pokemon doesn’t have any megas aside from Audino.
The next 2 pokemon are Liligant and Whimsicott. Now I am grouping these two together because they are the only pokemon from 5th gen that use a Sun Stone to Evolve. These pokemon have 2 very different roles in the competitive scene. Liligant is known as a set up quiver dance sweeper and Whimsicott is known for its annoying prankster leech seed, substitute set. Sometimes Whimsicott can be used for u-turn initiative as well but from personal experience I have seen it being used differently. With VGC 16, both pokemon have been getting more use lately. Whimsicott is used for prankster tailwind and it destroys Primals abilities with the move worry seed. Liligant is often paired with groudon turning it into an extremely fast chloraphyll user. It likes to hit the majority of heavy legends with a max power stab grass knot. Now if either of these pokemon were to get megas I would like whimsicott to get a more offensive ability, with higher special attack because I really dislike going up against stally pokemon where the match goes on longer than it should. Now I feel like liligant should become slightly faster going from base 90 speed to maybe around base 120. With another boost in normal defense and some slightly in special attack. As for an offensive ability im thinking something more along the lines of No guard to guarantee sleep powder or grass whistle hits, as well as leaf storm, but who knows? I think in terms of likeliness for these pokemon getting megas Im going to give them both a strong 7.5 out of 10 because I think they are really lacking on Unova megas.
Now for the final two- Nidoking and Nidoqueen. I honestly love both of these pokemon. For these pokemon, I would like to see basically something very similar to what they did to mega latias and latios. For Nidoking, I would like to see huge boost in speed and both physical and special attack with slight boosts in its defenses. On the other hand I would like to see nidoqueen get a huge boost in its speed, both defenses, and only slightly higher physical and special attack. I would like to see both of these pokemon keep their sheer force ability and possibly be version exclusives. As far as likeliness for the Megas I’m going to give them a rating 8/10. The reason im rating this so high is because we did see them being featured on the Chess board during Pokemon’s super bowl commercial. This shows they are still very relevant to the creators and not a forgotten pokemon.
