...Case Study – Paid Time Off Policies B6032 Human Resource Management & Talent Development Courtez Kirkwood Argosy University Paid time off is awarded to those that meet the selected criteria. Usually this is by being employed, attendance at work and working over time. Merging two companies with two different PTO policies is a difficult task as ultimately; there must be one newly created policy for all employees to follow. In addition, HR will need to further research each company for information to determine the newly formed paid time off policy once the companies have merged. Length of Employment * Usually it is important to know how long an employee has been with the company. Paid time off is accumulated over time and the length of an employee at a company can really alter their paid time off. This information is important to make sure paid time off is given fairly but also to protect the company from people who join the company just to receive paid time off. Attendance * Employees work different hours throughout the day, week, month and year. Some employees are required to work 40 hours a week; some are required to work more or less. This information is needed to help define the paid time off policy and help narrow down the qualifications Employee type * In most companies there are full time employees whom are entitled to all benefits and incentives. There are also outsourced and contractor employees within a company. The different types of employees...

...100% excellent job! All requirements were met. Keep up the good work. Professor C Information Security Fundamentals Week 3 Security Policies 08 July 2012 Although the sample email use policy is very generic it does outline specific requirements and rules that must be met. The general restrictions are clear, covering prohibited use. It states that the company email system shall not be used for the creation or distribution of any disruptive, offensive, or discriminatory messages. It addresses prohibited emails and emails that need the VP of Operations approval and the consequences for violating the policy. This email policy does not recognize personal privacy in email, but it allows for a “reasonable amount” of company resources for personal emails. However, this is confusing because it does not define or list the restrictions of personal use. If the business is relatively small than this generalized usage policy would be effective, but for mid to large sized organizations a more in depth email use policy that is part of a larger policy should be developed. In practice, this sample issue-specific policy would not suffice for the majority, but it is a good basic outline. Organizations that have trade secrets to protect, hospitals, government agencies, and financial institutions would need to dissect this particular policy to identify its strengths and alter its weaknesses. A few of its noticeable weak points are: 1. A formal header – The policy identifies...

...Letter to Editor Dear Editor: On August 8 in 2007 Barry Bonds broke the Major League Baseball (MLB) home run records by 31years. However, most major newspapers and magazines columns were indifferent and negative to his home run record. The expressions from them are very different from wild enthusiasms and cheers when he broke Mark McGwire’s single season home run record because Bonds is under suspicion for steroid use. Beside in these cases, major leaguers’ performance enhancing drugs stories rise out many different way such as Jose Canseco autobiography, Mark McGwire admits he uses the steroids and goes on to hit a then record 70 homers. According to the MLB official site, the investigation of MLB organization found that 5 percent to 7 percent of 1438 tests were positive about performance enhancing drugs during the 2003 season. The Major League player were used performance enhancing drug and even existence of the drug policy keep under suspicion about it nowadays . So, I think MLB need to improve current performance enhancing drugs policy. According to the MLB official site, Major League Baseball’s drug policy joint drug prevention and treatment program is established by agreement after the 2004 season between the MLB Players Association and the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball in order to ban baseball players’ performance enhancing drugs including anabolic steroids and other illegal drugs. There was one unannounced mandatory test for...

...Restorative Justice XXXXXXXXX American Military University Professor Michael Beshears CMRJ316 Correction and Incarceration January 20, 2011 Abstract The general disillusion with the present punishment-based and rehabilitative approaches to crime control has created a political climate ripe for reform. A new move based on the premise of accountability and remedial has great appeal. While restorative justice seems to guarantee a distinct third alternative, the imprecise use of the emerging "vocabulary of restoration" has created as much confusion as clarity about the fundamental concepts of the new paradigm. Restorative justice has come to mean all things to all people. I agree with Walgrave and Bazemore: “A coherent definition and vision should serve as a unifying focus for reflection and experimentation among practitioners and scientists, and should inform policy makers and the public about what restorative justice is and is not” (Bazemore and Walgrave, 1999a, p. 46). Restorative justice, as a practice, has a history older than state justice does, yet the example of restorative justice has only recently begun to be expressed. Since Howard Zehr's book Changing Lenses (1990) first sketched the outlines of the restorative justice example, little agreement principles have evolved (McCold, 1998c). Recently, two competing definitions of restorative justice have been brought...

California Agricultural Experiment Station Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics May, 1999 FALLACIES IN DEVELOPMENT THEORY AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR POLICY. by Irma Adelman I. Introduction No area of economics has experienced as many abrupt changes in leading paradigm during the post Word War II era as has economic development. Since economic development is a policy science, the twists and turns in development economics have had profound implications for development policy. Specifically, the dominant development model has determined policy prescriptions concerning the desirable: role of government in the economy; its degree of interventionism; the form interventionism; and the nature of government-market interactions. Changes in both theory and policy prescriptions arise mainly from the following five sources: First, there is learning. As our empirical and theoretical knowledge-base enlarges, new theoretical propositions, or new evidence concerning either resounding real-world successes...
