Police and Law The role that police play in today’s society is very important along with the essentials that they bring to conduct their job. However, an officer job varies from many different positions, an officer role is to prevent and control minor or major crime conducted everywhere. An officer’s main objective is to aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm, such as the victims of violent, mental, and sexual attack. Some other responsibilities are to facilitate the progress of the movement of people and vehicles and assist those who cannot care for themselves, the intoxicated, the addicted, the mentally ill, the physically disables, the old, and the young. Police jobs are to provide a sense of security to people and the community. If the roles of a police officer are lessened, I believe crime in some areas would be unbearable. For example in Detroit the police to citizen ratio is not as high as some of the suburban areas and is the murder capital of America. The role of police would not longer provide that security to the community. Today’s society police face a ray of different problems. If an officer suspects something suspicious while in a situation, he would need probable cause or a witness in order to perform a search. I believe there is no improvement; taking away probable cause would take each citizens constitiutional rights and give the police freedom to racially profile.
