Throughout American history many different ideologies and legislations according to the constitution. These ideologies have structured the American system for many ages and people really never really look throughly into them at all. Some people really do blindly follow certain ideologies and really never stop to think about the repercussions when it comes to them and they only really take into consideration what is really going on. The liberals here in America really seem to have the most impact to me when it comes to the American people. The liberal believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity and that everyone has the opportunity to have a chance to make it in this country. For a long time the liberals and the conservatives have had a huge debate over the centuries about who political philosophy was right. The conservatives seemed to believe that everyone was basically on their own and that they'll have to make up their own choices and have to basically claw their way to the top. Looking more in debt to the political ideology of the liberals i am very shocked at the fact I sided with them because I really didn't know what they really stood for when it came down to certain things. I was always against things like the death penalty and come to find out the liberals were against the very same thing. The liberals believed that the penalty should be abolished because it is said that they're at risk of killing an innocent person and I can agree with that wholeheartedly. Another main issue that I seemed to have was the whole thing of war on terrorism and how the U.S handles the whole situation. Liberals believe that terrorism is only developed through the arrogant policies of the U.S foreign policies that actually hinder other countries rather than helping them. Other groups argue that terrorism is one

Political Ideology

...2012 1) Everyone have their own political ideology and opinions in what’s happening in the world right now. I would categorize myself as a Liberal. Liberal and conservatives have their own view in how they see certain issues. However, I can be liberal in some issues and conservative in other issues. Being a Muslim, how I view things can be different from anyone who doesn’t share the same faith as me. For example, same sex marriage is legal in some states in the United States. Religion wise, I totally against same sex marriage because it is forbidden in Islam and been regarded as a sinful act. From the perspective of humanity, same sex marriage would make no sense because the couples cannot reproduce an heir. Besides that, there are also different opinions on abortion. Muslims regard abortion as wrong and forbidden but many accept it may be permitted in certain cases. From my understanding, abortion on the ground of financial reason or not be able to take care of the baby when the baby growing up is a great sin in Islam. In my opinion, the mother should be allowed to abort her baby if it’s because of poverty. The reason is if the mother cannot provide the baby with food and shelter than there is no point of keeping the child. Every child deserves the basic needs to grow up. The reason I mention this is because I don’t view all issues from Islamic perspectives. Some of the things you just need to be logical and reasonable. My ideology would base on liberalism and use of Islam...

Political Ideology Inventory

...Today in Social Science doing my Political Ideology Inventory, I answered all 40 questions on the scale from Strongly Disagree to strongly agree. Although certain questions were scored differently, it was overall an interesting process. My total ended up being -30. This means I am a little left wing. Leaning me to the liberal side. After evaluating myself with that one I took two more surveys on 2 different websites. One survey was on www.theadvocates.org and the other was on www.Isidewith.com. My survey I scored myself and one of the websites said I was left wing. Meanwhile theadvocates.org said I was conservative. My results on both websites did correlate in kind of a way by both relating to how I feel. My first survey I did informed...

The Relationship Between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies

...(Date) Correlation not Causation: The Relationship between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies This article seeks to establish that a correlation exists between personality traits of humans and the political ideologies that they hold. This is a political science issue that analyzes the extent to which the two aspects are correlated, and more specifically, the effect of personality traits on political ideologies. Causation is hinged on the assumption that the personality of an individual motivates them towards developing certain political ideologies and attitudes later in life. The basis of this is the perceived observation that personality traits are developed at infancy, while political preferences usually develop much later in life. However, recent studies in political science, and works in disciplines such as psychology and behavioral genetics have shown that political preferences also develop during childhood (Verhulst, Lindon and Hatemi 34). These recent findings aim to justify that the relationship stems from correlation, rather than causation. This means that political ideologies are also influenced by genetic factors, in a similar manner to personality traits. Verhulst, Lindon and Hatemi (34) present the case for a correlation relationship, which then effectively casts doubt over the existence of a causal relationship between personality traits and political preferences. Through applying a structural model representing direction of causation...

Political Ideologies In The United States

...The United States was founded on the values of “classical liberalism.” Thomas Jefferson, other Declaration of Independence signers, and the authors of the U.S. constitution adopted this political philosophy, as well as abolitionists and suffragettes. Today, all political ideologies in the U.S stem from classical liberalism. This philosophy promotes individualism, freedom, equality, popular choice, and limited government. American society strongly believes in restricted government and free market. Stone uses almost the same framework to describe policy values adding efficiency, welfare, and security to the list. Medicaid expansion, an extension of traditional Medicaid, provides coverage to working class poor people. Following is a brief analysis...

What the formal process is of amending the Constitution and why it was designed this particular way. Discussing the role of the Court in the development of Federalism and the allocation of federal and state powers with in our U.S. system and how throughout the years it has changed. Political ideology is the beliefs or a philosophy pertaining to religion, social, cultural, and economic affairs by the majority of people with in a society. Liberal conservative and libertarian ideologies are examples of the political ideology. Liberals do not believe in class privileges, but rather equality and sharing resources and welcomes government intervention. Liberals support the welfare programs, government funded free health care, unemployment benefits, Maternity leave and programs of this nature. Conservatives are quite the opposite of what Liberals represent. The conservatives prefer individuals to be held personally responsible for their own wellbeing. They prefer the traditional views and values and is more comfortable with slow or moderate change. They believe the government should have limited say when it comes to regulating the economy. Libertarian beliefs are more geared toward free will, with opposing government interference in personal and economic liberties. When amending the...

Political Ideology

...Political Ideology I have chosen the Republican ideological position, commonly referred to as the Grand Old Party (G.O.P). The Republican Party absorbs Libertarianism, fiscal Conservatism, and concepts of Progressivism. I believe in the voice of capitalism, competition, and that the overall welfare of the people comes first before all else. Since the creation of the Republican Party in the mid nineteenth century, the G.O.P has grown to represent social conservatism. Despite misplaced stigma that Republicans do not support the interests of the common people, history has shown that their view directs more to being responsible with government expenditures and justifying government activities with more than just goodwill for all citizens. The Republican Party first gained popularity through the election of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln, as well as the Republicans of that time, was a strong anti-slavery activist. Lincoln led the way towards the end of slavery. Republican ideology brought equality to slaves. Republican ideology has also supported the people’s rights to bear arms, which has been an issue of heavy debate that finally found victory in the McDonalds v. Chicago case. The plaintiffs in the case argued that the state of Chicago had infringed on their Second Amendment rights. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Second Amendment and its enforcement in all states. Former Republican President George Bush was a strong supporter of the NRA and Second...

Political Ideology

...Assignment 5 Paper Both freedom and equality are political issues that have yet to be fully resolved and understood despite our nation being founded on both. Although we as a society have glamorized our country as being the “Land of the Free” and where “Everyone is created equal,” there are still social issues that give reason to believe that we as citizens of the United States aren’t so equal and not exactly all that free. In the Dialogue readings, I have selected four of which I feel could be strongly applied to the political beliefs of both freedom and equality. In the “Self and Society” book complied of different readings and philosophical authors, I have chosen Albert Camus, B.F. Skinner, Horace Miner, and C. Wright Mills as comparisons to the ideas on freedom and equality. In Camus’ reading entitled “The Guest,” the schoolmaster named Daru is visited by a horseman, Balducci. Alongside Balducci is his captive prisoner, an Arab who remains nameless throughout the reading. Balducci instructs Camus to take the prisoner to police headquarters to face accusations against a supposed crime he had committed. Throughout the story, Daru is seen living well in his furnished and heated home that looks over an impoverished, cold and often corrupt land. This demonstrates quite obviously that not everyone is considered equal, as the rest of the land is cold and freezing while Daru is kept warm. Daru, who goes against Balducci’s orders, and remains true to his own personal freedoms...

...means are revolutionary and evolutionary socialism while the two that focus on the goals are fundamentalist and revisionist socialism. Revolutionary socialists believed that socialism could only be introduced by a revolutionary overthrow of the existing political system which was, in most countries, capitalism. The first successful socialist revolution was the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, which served as a model for subsequent generations of revolutionary socialists. Revolutionary socialists seek a mass uprising of the working class to seize control of the economy and create an egalitarian society based on common ownership. However as the 19th century progressed, enthusiasm for popular revolt waned in advanced capitalist states such as western Europe. Capitalism had matured and the urban working class lost its revolutionary character. Wages had increased and the working class had more rights and better working conditions. Therefore, evolutionary socialism developed, which believed that socialism would develop naturally and peacefully out of liberal capitalism. The Fabian Society introduced parliamentary socialism in the UK and they believed that socialism could be introduced through political action and education. The political action would come from the creation of a socialist party to compete for power while elite groups could be converted to socialism through education. They believed socialism would occur through a gradual process of social reform and the working class would...

Political Ideology Essay

...Political Ideology Essay Outline I. Individual vs. group responsibility a. The government is taxing everyone a lot of money and it goes to those who can’t or won’t provide enough for themselves so in return the people are forced to pay. b. People are too dependent on the government for help (i.e. welfare/medicade) that there is less incentive for people to work c. Government should play a much smaller roll in American lives. Stop taking our money to fix what the government sees as “important”. Social security is supplemental income, not retirement. If people want to save up for retirement, then let them. Let people be in charge of their own money and abolish social security. Encourage private charities, discourage frivolous law suits, and take away eminent domain. People should not be forced from their houses just so that Wal-Mart can decrease the economy of another town. Leave it up to the businesses to make a deal with the homeowners. It is a free country and people should be free to keep their property if they so please. II. Roll of government vs. family and faith a. Some issues should be decided by the individual however there are some that are in need of control. Abortion affects more than just the woman. The baby is equally as much the father’s as the mother’s. It should be a joint decision if anything. The majority of abortions done are by unwed girls in their late teens and early to late twenties. If you don’t want to risk getting pregnant, don’t have sex...

High Noon’s Political Ideology

...High Noon’s Political Ideology It is now lucid that the classic cinematic High Noon, written by Carl Foreman, was intended to underscore the popular political culture of the Cold War. Will Kane, the protagonist, had an issue that mirrored the predicament of American citizens were compelled to testify before The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). The provoking screenplay consisted of themes that directly linked to certain political aspects of the Cold War. Such themes were the characters themselves, the threatening of individual liberty, and the fear that deeply encompassed the characters. The characters in High Moon are a theme due to the fact that they depict real aspects that were profoundly evolved in the bitter years of the Cold War. For instance, Will Kane represented the righteous man who was willing to stand up to transgressors. In this sense, Kane depicted the role of United States during the Cold War. The United States primary enemy during the Cold War was communism, no matter who pursued it. Kane did all that he could in order to defeat Miller and his gang. Consequently, it could be reasonably deducted that the gang in this case represents communism. Also, given the previous roles assigned, the townspeople of Hadleyville play the role of the United Nations that is too coward to take action against the evils of communism. So basically, the townspeople abandon Kane on his journey to defeat the gang is the same ideology as the UN refused demolish communism...

What Makes Us so Different? Understanding Political Ideology Through Partisanship

...Govt-2301-WS3 What makes us so different? Understanding Political Ideology through Partisanship People today think that it doesn’t matter how you vote, the outcome will always be the same because the Democratic and GOP parties are run by corporations. Some think that in order to break away from the special interests and influences, there should be a strong third party and that party with a different platform is the Libertarian Party. Historically the main two parties were not much different. In the beginning both parties believed that “men (not big government) was to rule them” (The Fundamental Differences Between Republican and Democrats). There was a mutual desire for individual freedom. Currently it seems that their fundamental beliefs have changed. The Democratic Party wants to increase government involvement in the lives of the American public, whereas the Republicans would like to see decreased national government and have each state govern themselves (The Fundamental Differences Between Republican and Democrats). The Libertarians seem to want to get back to what the founding fathers envisioned. Each party has very strong convictions on the topics that confront America today. The hottest topic facing the nation is Same Sex Marriage. Since the beginning the Democrats have defended Civil Rights and supported the expansion of opportunities for all. They fight to end all forms of discrimination, but this is an uphill battle. “We support marriage equality...

Political Ideology: White Feminism

...Feminism is most commonly known as the political ideology fighting for equality between all genders in many different areas, including economic and social aspects (“Feminism”), but this definition is not concrete. The meaning of this movement varies from person to person, whether it be defined as what lies beyond these man-created ideas in a man-created world or a pathway to lesbianism (Ruth 5). Feminism has many subcategories due to the wide range of topics and differing interpretations. Despite this fact, society and mainstream media, with white normativity at their cores, seem to clearly portray who is and is not a feminist (Jonsson 1013). This bias produces the concept of white feminism which I will be exploring in full throughout this...

Assess the Sociological Explanations of Science and Ideology as Belief Systems (33 Marks)

...A belief system is a set of mutually supportive beliefs. Many sociologists see science as a product of the process of rationalisation that began with the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century and its success has spread to a widespread ‘faith in science’. Whereas ideology is a belief system by definition - a worldview or a set of ideas and values. Science has had a huge impact on society in the last few centuries with medicines curing fatal diseases and advances in communication and technology. Science and technology has revolutionised economic productivity and raised standards of living. This success has led to a widespread belief in science; believing science can ‘deliver the goods’. However, this faith has been dimmed by science causing problems. For example pollution, weapons and global warming are products of science. While science protects us from natural dangers, it creates its own manufactured risks. However the good and bad effects of science show features distinguishing it from other belief systems – known as its cognitive power. It enables us to explain, predict and control the world in a way that non-scientific or pre-scientific belief systems cannot do. According to Popper, science has been so successful in explaining and controlling the world because it is an ‘open’ belief system. This means that every scientist’s theories are open to scrutiny, criticism and testing by others. As a result, science is governed by the principle of falsification - scientists...
