...Polymold Division The Polymold Division case is answering whether or not the CAD/CAM is a good investment. We are looking to answer how it benefits the company, financially. Mr. Martin, the Polymold Division manager felt that sales would continue to decline if Polymold did not invest in the new computer-aided designing and manufacturing system and it would lose market share on its remaining products to its more technologically advanced computers. Mr. Martin feared the marketplace. Polymold manufactured high-quality precision molds with interchangeable parts. When forecasting Polymold Division’s financial statements there are some assumptions that need to be taken into account before projecting the numbers. One of the assumptions is that the 5.1% market share would drop to 4.2% if the company does not purchase the CAD/CAM investment. If they do purchase the CAD/CAM, sales would increase to 7.3%, but could vary from 6.3-7.7%. We are assuming a 50% tax rate, the rate that Mr. Martin for his projections. The last assumption states that you will assume that cost of goods sold will be 73% of sales and will increase up to 77% by 1988. With these assumptions, we can then analyze one really important piece of information that was given, sales. The financial statements are dependent on sales and growth. Exhibit 3 illustrates Polymold’s sales in 1982 ($10.8 million) as well as a forecast of sales and average growth rate from 1983-1987. This information allows you to create a projected...

...the company more than they love the company’s returns. A big airline is most likely to be the competitor. It is very likely that the corporation can introduce a system of short-haul, cheap flights via a standardized fleet with ease. The billions in revenue generated from other divisions can provide the capital required; they can even have the option to operate at a loss for a while. The question, then, turns to one of sustaining this division by attracting customers from companies like Southwest. Besides setting low prices and attempt to maximize efficiency, the question becomes: can the division’s efficiency outstrip that of Southwest’s? As stated, Southwest’s culture inspires employees to work, thus productivity and efficiency increases. This is the key behind the company’s success: fostering culture and turning the results into profit. Can a big company replicate or build the culture? Replication is difficult because usually big wigs are reluctant to change their own culture of following rules to the letter like traditional big companies to an upbeat style of Southwest. Instead of satisfying customers, maximizing shareholder value takes priority and this choice could be detrimental to the divisions’ cause (shareholders may also not be happy at the prospect of operating at a loss); this case has been proved in the form of Continental Lite. When the bosses are fixed in maintaining their company’s own identity culture, I’m not sure that it will work out despite good numbers...

...In my particular role at my job, the roles can be divided by front of house and back office. I mainly do front of house duties and someone else does the back office. When that other individual quit, I had to assume both the front of house and back office roles until someone else was hired. I felt that I knew enough to temporarily take on the back office role and the work had to get done. Even though I knew the main responsibilities of what needed to be done, there were the small things that I wasn’t too in tuned with that I needed to know. Well some of those small things were important because I was not doing specified tasks properly and my manager decided to have a meeting with me to go over everything that was supposed to be done in the back office and to make sure that I knew exactly what was going on step by step. I also had to virtually perform the tasks as well to show that I did comprehend how to do it. I felt that the communication was effective because I was more confident in my abilities to perform job which enabled me to perform better and increase productivity by being able to monitor inventory levels more closely and help the associates out by being able to replenish items that sell faster than others. Of course, replenishing those items means they can continue to be sold to customers which in turn generate revenue for the company which shows why my role is necessary. Helping the associates with products they need is also a necessary step to provide exceptional...

...1. What were the problems facing Luis Morales as he began implementing Ben Fisher's international expansion strategy? * One of the main problems Morales had to face was the individualistic position of each subsidiary. Until then, each subsidiary operated as a decentralized federation, but with few or non-connection with an interconnected global strategy. * The entrepreneurial independence of offshores companies complicated the coordination and integration of activities. Allocating capital became more complex as well. * Historically, manager tried to protect their self-interest instead of cooperate with other subsidiaries. * Conflicts between regional structure of international division and product-based structure of subsidiaries. * Subsidiaries did not collaborate with GBD’s 2. How would you evaluate the organizational changes he made in response to those problems? Why were they unsuccessful? * He took many reactive responses, with no clarity about how to organize the company effectively. He went back and forth from trying to implement centralized hubs and then moving to a decentralized federation model where integrating functions was the focus. * He lost credibility with all the changes that seem not work. Moreover, he did not identify the local competences of the organization and its strategic importance in order to take a more logical decision. 3. What do you think of the Sterling Partners recommendations? What did Kent get for the $1.8 million...

... and clearly describe each one. 1. Numbers involved in both the addition and subtraction of fractions need to have a common denominator in order to be solved, having the smallest common denominator will make the addition and subtraction easier since you would be working with smaller numbers. Example: 2/4 + 3/8, you could multiply the denominators and get 32 or just have 8 as the common denominator either way the final answer have to be the same. 2. Relationship Two: Fractions that are multiplied result in a larger fraction that all too often must be reduced to its smallest form. For example: if you multiply 2/5 by 5/6 it will equal to 10/30, in this case you must simplify it will equal to 1/3. 3. Relationship Three: The division of fractions normally results in an improper fraction this number must then be turned into a mixed number in order to be properly graphed. Example: (2/3)/ (5/8) =16/15, this means there is 1 entire thing plus 1/15 of the thing. 4. Relationship Four: It is easier to divide fractions by charting the solution in order to determine whether or not the solution is correct. Example: (3/5)/ (2/3) = 9/10 5. Relationship Five: Regardless of the size of the denominator the numerator remains small and proportional to the denominator. Example: 15/6 is an improper fraction because the denominator have to be bigger than the numerator. 15/6 is 2½. 6. All fractions must be simplify to the smallest number possible. Example: 3/6= ½, 15/5=...

...Definition of a fraction – A fraction is a number that is an integer multiple of a unit fraction. Fractions are a part of our everyday lives and are used extensively in the business and finance related area. They may be represented as precents and rates – error rate, interest rate, employment rate, productivity levels, etc. Trades and manufacturing are also prolific users of fractions in the length of materials, how many lengths fit into a structure and working out quantities of material need to complete a batch or run of product, (Tucker, 2008). Fractions can be represented in many different ways, the mathematical notation for a fraction is represented as k(1/l) and for whole numbers k,l(l>0) or in the common form of ¼ or ½ . Commonly found representations of fraction for the purpose of teaching are equally divided circles or rectangle. The concept of fractions are a difficult to teach part of mathematics as the younger ages can struggle to comprehend the shift from whole numbers to units, fractions or parts of a number. This can be due to many factors including the inability to conceptualise the breaking up of a whole into parts or units, (Pengelly, 1991). A good start to allowing children to comprehend this is the use of base shapes such as triangles or squares and to break these up into parts and get the students to work out how many parts of the whole there are, therefore working out the fraction that is required. This can be progresses to more difficult learnings...

...Class observation Introduction This essay is based on an observation done for a mathematics lesion taught in primary 2nd class in Thaajuhdheen School about Fraction. The aim of the lesion is to improve the children’s confidence level about mathematical factors and help them to know the way to use fractions. There are 30 students in the class where there are 17 boys and 13 girls. The gender ratio makes the class an ideal class to study with reducing the biasness between the children. Further in the following paragraphs of this essay, I will explain how the lesions was conducted and the methodologies used by the teacher for teaching the lesion. Small discussion about the lesion Before the lesion, the maths teacher and I had I small discussion about the lesion “Fractions” which is going to be taught in the class for maths period. The teacher briefly explained the contents and the objectives of teaching the lesion. The aim of teaching Fraction as a lesion for the 2nd grade children is to build their confidence level about mathematics and to help them to understand the importance of fraction in the daily life and how to use them correctively in situations they face where fraction can be used. The class lasted 45 minutes where the class started at 7:45 in the morning and ended 8:30 in the morning. The teacher greeted to the class after entering the class and instructed to the children to settle down and ready to begin. There are two more other observers other than me, and when...
