...Essay about "Pool" by Corey Campbell We've all tried to be in that kind of relationship which didn't really fitted us, growth us or made us happy. Where the relationship was going okay, but never really was enough. The insecurity in the relationship affects the persons in it, and truly gives a lower self-esteem. It makes the person insecure and at the same time it brings a lot of frustration, and the relationship is never really able to make anybody happy. In the short story "Pool" from 2009, we here about a young couple named Darla and Jon, who is at pool party at their friends' house named Mandy and Trevor. The day before Darla and Jon had a accident in bed and out of fear they went to the pharmacy to get a morning-after pill. Even though they chose not to talk about it, the whole episode affects Darla's experience of their visit at Mandy and Trevor's. Darla is acting irritated at Jon, and it seems like Jon doesn't take the accident yesterday seriously. Darla finds out the two couples live totally different lifestyles and that she would have a tough time living like Mandy, only focusing on being a mommy. The others in the pool try hard to get Darla in there with them, but she uses the excuse that she hasn't brought any swimsuit. At last she's borrowing a swimsuit from Mandy. Here Trevor tells Darla that he knows about the morning-after pill and he makes approach to Darla. They talk about his marriage and that it's not all love and harmony, and afterwards Darla takes...

...ffThe Motel Pool Thesis: The author explores the simple event of children playing in a pool, to implicitly personify images of birth, apocalypse and rebirth which connect to the birth and destruction of our world. | “The plump good-natured children play in the blue pool: roll and plop, plop and roll;” * This line depicts the innocence of the children which allows you to see the images of the world when it was once pure and blue; the blue pool is the world * The roll and plop, plop and roll this describes the creation of the world and the living beings in it slide and tumble, oiled, in the slippery sun silent as otters, turning over and in, * “Oiled in the slippery sun” the sun represents happiness and brightness and the slide and tumble shows how humanity progressing in the world. It is basically a progression in age and knowledge through bright times * “Silent as otters” Here you can see a simile being used. It represents a comparison to the world being calm and peaceful. “Turning over and in” are the otter doing tricks which represents how humanity is obtaining great knowledge churning the water; or-seamstresses-cut and sew with jackknives its satins invisibly. * Churning the water shows how the children are having fun but annoyingly causing ripples and waves that they can’t take back. This shows how humanity makes objects to better their lives but have harmful effects on the earth * “or-seamstresses-cut and sew with jackknives its satins invisibly”...

...Latoya Griffin ENG 125 Instructor Anna Morrison May 28, 2014 The Pool Players The poem “The pool players” outlines the actual reality in which different youth from any diverse tends to face after leaving school. The poems’ content is systematically in a order simply because it opens up with portraying the ultimate scene of seven boys who surrounded a pool hall which was named the Golden Shovel. This line exposes the actual scene which the play had represented certain small gang who were in need of luck in order to achieve certain goal in their lives. Also the content of the play seemingly interested as result of implication whereby it implies the youngness of the players (Brooks, 1959). The poem`s content also exposes the certain illegal activities which were practiced by the boys discussed. What interested me are narrator words when exposing the facts by use of secret word “Lurk late” which shows that, a certain activities were taking place in the dark. The identification shows that, too much exposure to darkness makes somebody to be what he or she ought to be. The narrator uses the word “strike straight” showing that, the boys where seemingly trying to do something menacing. Perhaps, they committed crimes, rapes and murder as well since they were all undergoing through a rite of passage in their development (Brooks, 1959). The form of the poem “the pool players” was identified to have been determined by Colloquial rhythm (Haikus type of poem) the narrator tried...

...Pool We grow up with all these expectations on how we should live our lives, how we should educate ourselves in a certain direction, and especially how our bodies should look. The female body in particularly is being held under the gun. Every day we see commercials or magazines with bone-skinny models dressed in nothing less than a bikini. These commercials stage the models to look like their life is the “perfect way of living” and of course that their bodies are the most desirable in the world. It gives a feeling that if you want to be someone or have any success in your life, then you need to become one of these models. This is undermining the self-confidence of many females who are not as skinny or “perfect” as these excessive desires. But is it at all necessary? Can it be that women really have to look like these abnormal photo shopped models, or do men actually in most cases find them attractive just the way they are? In the short story “Pool” written by Corey Campbell in 2009, we meet a young woman named Darla. She and her boyfriend Jon are at a pool party at their friends Trevor and Mandy’s house where the story takes place. Their house is located in the Valley in “ … a neighbourhood of small square houses”., where Trevor, Mandy and their little child live. The neighbourhood is described as the home of car thieves and people in their early twenties, who cannot afford to buy their own house. Already in the beginning the setting is described in many details. “She counted...

...Industry’s Profit Pools | Bus J-411 | | Carl Greeno III | 10/1/2013 | In this article it describes a useful framework for analyzing how profits are distributed among the various activities that form an industry’s value chain. A profit-pool opens a window onto the underlying structure of the industry, helping managers see the economic and competitive forces that are determining the distribution of profits. The strategy of a firm should be informed by an understanding of the sources and distribution of profits generated in an industry. Gadiesh and Gilbert took a value chain perspective to this when developing the profit pool framework. Profitability in different segments and stages of the value chain may vary a lot by product and customer group, by geography, or by channel. Step 1: Define the pool Key is to look at the industry broadly, beyond its traditional boundaries. Include all the activities that are meaningful to influence your organization’s ability to earn profits today and in the future. Examine the industry from three perspectives, your own, your competitors’, and your customers. Take a step back and take a look at your industry through the eyes of the customer. When referring to capsim, one of the most important aspects in the game is the customer survey. In being profitable and achieving a high percent of the market, you must fulfill the customers’ needs and expectations better than the competition. Defining the bounds of a profit pool requires, in short...

...How to Install Above Ground Pools A new pool is no fun until it is full of water and installed properly. My husband and I help install two swimming pools per summer for needy families in our community. We have been doing this for six years and it never fails to put a smile on my face the first time I see kids jumping and splashing in the pools we install. In fact, nothing will make me madder than seeing an incorrectly installed pool. It is much better and much cheaper to do it right the first time. These are the basic guidelines to help you install your above ground pool. Before you do anything, make sure you have plenty of people helping you. It will go faster and be more fun if you get a crew together. Preparing the foundation of your pool will be the first step. Remove any sod or rocks that would be beneath your pool. You will also need to remove any sod or rocks from around your pool, up to at least six feet. That means you will have a six foot dirt road around your pool. Once the sod and rocks are gone, you will need to level out the ground by digging up the dirt until you have an even area underneath and around your pool. You can measure and level the ground with a level or a transit. When the ground is level, you will want to lay a foundation under your pool. Sand is the most traditional foundation that people use. The sand acts like a barrier between your liner and the ground. Now you are ready to assemble your pool. Installation instructions vary depending on...

...At the age of eight, being the oblivious, simple minded child I was, I nearly died. On the day of July seventh, in 2012. My mom, sister, two irrelevant brother half brothers, and my dad, decided to go to the community pool. It was our first time speaking of, we already had a pool in our backyard, however we still decided it’d be fun. There were many people there, and the pool was huge, yet oddly shaped. It was a huge square on the right side, and the deep end was a rectangular shape in the middle, then the other side was a regular shape. Knowing me of course I was very attracted to the rectangular part, but my mom said, “You aren’t old enough to swim over there.” I frowned. First, I had in two pigtails and a one piece bathing suit. I definitely felt too young as well. So then, I took out my pigtails, removed my floats, and finally sat in the shallow part of the water. My brothers laughed at the disappointment all over my face as they were diving into the deep end. Only a couple of people were in the deep end, and the number footage was on the pool...

...September 14, 2014 Re: Medical Expense Deduction under IRC 213 for Swimming Pool FACTS The taxpayer, Susan, suffers from severe osteoarthritis in both knees and has a hard time living comfortably. Susan has taken many precautions to better her health including: cortisone injections, painkillers, physical therapy, and arthroscopic surgery. Being that this is a hereditary disease, the doctors predict that it’s only going to get worse. The key to alleviate the pain is to keep moving, thus it is extremely painful for Susan to remain active. Swimming maintains good cardio with little to no impact; therefore her doctor prescribed her to swim daily. She is hesitant to go to the city pool because the pool is too far, too cold, and it’s extremely crowded. Her gym does not have a pool either. Susan would like to construct a heated pool in her backyard so she can swim at her own convenience without any annoyances. Her grandchildren can also use the pool when they come to visit. She just wants a basic swimming pool at the lowest price available. Yet she is still concerned about the price and would at least like to deduct the cost of maintaining and installing a pool in her backyard as a medical expense. ISSUE Can Susan deduct the cost of installing and maintaining a pool as a qualified medical expense? CONCLUSION Susan is allowed to claim a medical expense deduction for installing and maintaining a pool in her back yard under §213 of the Internal Revenue Code. Susan has been diagnosed...

...Swimming Pool Cleaning System Introduction: Automated pool cleaning systems have been developed to reduce the amount of human effort required to keep a pool clean. Without a cleaning system the pool water would quickly become stagnant and a habitation for all sorts of micro-organisms. Algae would soon fill the pool turning the water and pool surfaces green. Not only is this an aesthetic problem it could potentially be a serious risk to a swimmer’s health. The overall purpose of the automated pool cleaning system is to provide a swimming environment in which the risk to the health of the swimmer caused by contact with the pool water is minimised; and provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance to the pool. This is achieved through ensuring that the swimming pool remains clean and free from algae and harmful micro-flora such as bacteria or even viruses. The major components of the cleaning systems are a filtration system, a chemical distribution system, an in-pool cleaning unit and a pumping system. Figure 1 is an illustration of a typical in-pool cleaning unit. The cleaning unit is connected to the inlet of the pool pump via the white hose seen in the picture. Cleaning units typically use the suction from the pump to propel themselves around the pool. In some cases however the cleaning unit is driven by pressure from the outlet of the pool pump or a separate electric motor mounted in the cleaning unit. The cleaning unit is designed to clean the underwater pool surfaces...

...Pool "Pool" is a short story written by Corey Campbell in 2009, about the young woman Darla at a pool party. Darla is a woman, I suppose, in her twenties. Her appearance is not described, it has all been left to your imagination, but when she puts on the swimsuit, we hear that the gold rings meet her collarbones, and that it doesn't fit her, so her body must be fit. Her relationship to getting married and settle down is a bit tense."I'd be horrible at it. I'd probably start drinking. I know I would (..) I don't know how you do it" L. 80, p. 10 and l. 176, p. 12. Every time they talk about having kids and getting married, whether it's to Mandy or Trevor, the couple they are visiting, she gets a bit defensive, thinking it sounds impossible and especially in such a young age. Darla and her boyfriend had a accident with a broken condom, where they bought a morning-after pill. She was nearly being drawn into the universe that she takes so much distance from. Darla has made up her mind that having kids and getting married, isn't her thing, and she has many prejudice about it. Darla's boyfriend is Jon, they have been together just under a year. Darla and Jon's relationship seems good on the outside, but on the inside, Darla knows that the relationship won't last, which actually is the thing she likes the most about him. Jon touch her in a gentle way, and ask her if she is okay. This makes him look like a good partner, but he also pushes her to do things she doesn't want to,...
